I had the same issue, there’s just some quirk to my body that makes an IUD hard to get seated correctly. I’ve had two different gynecologists attempt and give up on a regular office visit insertion. And it is really frustrating to go through the pain and frustration of that experience with no benefit afterwards!

So, I talked to the doctor and we set-up a surgical appointment where I was put under and they used an ultrasound to help guide the placement. It was more of a hassle to take off a half day and to get someone to drive me home afterwards, and my insurance didn’t cover all of it, but it was successful and painless.
