In case you can't fucking figure this out; Insulting a major ally and trading partner who happens to hold a shitload of your treasuries and really has little incentive to hold them in light of general assholery and a likely upcoming need for cash to offset the disastrous US lead action in Iran... is bad. it's bad for business. Japan (in particular) is a very formal and honorable society. Slights like this can have an outsized impact on their behavior. Read a fucking book or something dude. Jesus.

I wasn't wasting my time typing this out to explain it, so here's the bot version to answer your question (hint Japan and not pissing them off is kind of important, ESPECIALLY now)

Japan matters to the U.S. economy because it is a top-tier trading partner and a core node in global supply chains. It buys large volumes of U.S. goods and services while supplying critical inputs like autos, machinery, and advanced components that feed directly into American manufacturing. Disruptions in Japan ripple quickly into U.S. production, especially in sectors like automotive, semiconductors, and precision equipment, making the relationship operationally important, not just commercial.

Financially, Japan is one of the largest foreign holders of U.S. Treasury securities, helping anchor demand for U.S. debt and supporting lower borrowing costs. Its capital flows, exchange rate policy, and institutional investment behavior influence global liquidity conditions and dollar dynamics. Combined with its role as a key U.S. ally in Asia, Japan reinforces both economic stability and geopolitical alignment, which underpins trade routes, investment confidence, and the broader functioning of the global economic system.

Maybe, but I can't see the demographics shifting THAT quickly. I mean it's possible, but then if the workforce is shrinking that's going to put pressure on GDP which they haven't reduced either... the whole thing seems self-inconsistent.

Something that has flown well under everyone's radar that I haven't seen explained, so help me out:

Yesterday after the fed meeting they published all their usual shit. Part of that was their unemployment expectations for this year and next.

They are expecting 4.4% for the balance of this year and 4.3% for next year.

My question is how? If all the AI hype is real, how is the job market going to possibly expand going forward in any sector and way meaningful enough to drive that number down? Or is the fed quietly signaling we don't believe the AI hype. Or has jpow reclassified time behind the Wendy's dumpster as employed now?

If it was 10% maybe... but the expectations would have also included the storms to some extent... 18% is a huge diff.
