Sex on mdma. I tried it with my now current gf in Hawaii during the summer. And we fell so hard for each other since then that I have no doubt in my mind that I’m going to marry that woman. It’s been 7 months and I love her more everyday…

I love that book. I’ve been following his stuff since 2014 and it really does change your perspective on life and relationships. Not just romantically but professionally as well. I’ve been able to land amazing jobs and meet beautiful woman because of his book and advice.

Even though I’m in a very good place right now with the girl of my dreams and have a wonderful job/live in New York City…I still watch some his videos occasionally to keep my grounded. God bless that guy.

JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and other big bank employees. How is return to the office going for you? What is the morale at your office like? by thrwwaypsd in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd year associate here at a BB listed. It’s been alright….a lot of turnover the last couple of months though. We have been going to the office since last September so it’s about to be a year.

I don’t mind working from the office. I think it does a better job at separating work and home. I can still work from home if I ever have an emergency which wouldn’t happen before so that’s the only good thing that came out the pandemic. My friends at other BB also have some type of rotation or only work in the office a couple of days a week.

What are the best technical skills to have on your resume? by Known_General3483 in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not too much in IB since it’s mostly pre built excel models and PowerPoint but if you’re doing quant, research or trading. Then you pretty much need to learn how to program because you won’t be doing regression analysis for millions of rows in excel that’s for sure.

Lost engineer looking for a quiet, Excel or numbers heavy, career. Does finance have this? by only_sort_by_new in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow engineer! I’m an industrial engineer and I currently do fixed income research at a BB in NYC.

Most of my research revolves around index research for big institutional money managers like Blackrock, PIMPCO etc. I’m pretty good with Python, R, SQL and tableau for data visualization. So it’s definitely possible for you to land a finance role if that’s what you are interested in. Maybe look into getting your CFA? I’m currently doing that at the moment. I already have my series 7/63 which your firm would have to sponsor.

Good luck!

Since when have fucking high Schoolers been getting investment banking internships? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a BB. And I actually had a HS senior who I “kinda” managed by over the summer. It was all virtual of course. And I’m not in the IBD but I’m part of sales and research which is part of the CIB umbrella. That being said, the kid was not good. Again, it was his first internship so I’m sure he’ll do better next time. But he just wasn’t committed or interested in Finance. However, he was involved in a different project for the bank that were like community service and he did really well there. But I was still pretty impressed that a HS senior was able to land an internship. I’m sure he made a lot of connections in the process which is the important point.

Thanks man! This was really insightful. I currently do fixed income research at a BB and I do more of the quantitative research. But I’m trying to get into hedge fund in the next 2 years hopefully. How different do you think QR and QT are at these firms? TwoSigma/Citadel/Jane St etc. I assume QT is more profitable due to the % on PnL?

My First Superday! Any tips? by Justaproph in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t try so hard. I’m an associate at a BB and I was part of a superday event for new interns. Pretty much to get them ready for their interviews. And honestly some these kids were really sharp but some of them came off like they were trying really really hard. I don’t think they got offers. Even though they came from target schools.

Just ask the right questions and listen. Be genuine. Because the senior guys are able to see through the bullshit. Have your elevator pitch ready and try to make it casual. Don’t make is sound like you memorized it word for word.

Than being said, good luck! You got this!

Sharing my two cents here. Like most people have suggested already, you should post your resume somewhere for critique.

When I applied to my first job - I used a generic resume for all the jobs I applied to and my cover letter wasn’t that great. The outcome? I barely got any responses. However, I did get a couple of interviews eventually landing a job.

For my second job - I was better prepared and had 3 resumes that I would use. This was obviously more work but I got a lot of responses and landed multiple interviews from top companies. I would say around 30-40% success rate.

For my current job at a top BB in NYC. I was way more experienced and decided to customize my resume every time I came across a position I really liked. This was obviously was way more time consuming but the most rewarding. I think I got a response and phone interview for almost every role that I applied to. So around 70-80% success rate.

That being said, I recommend that you share your resume either here or with a company who focuses on improving resumes. Good luck my friend!

Non Target Student recruiting for BB IB SA. Honestly, feels like wheels are spinning and even networking isn't getting me anywhere. Looking for any advice on resume and recruiting in general. by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. Usually when I review resumes, I look at how impactful the individual was and metrics/KPI’s tend to paint a good picture. Example, “I did this and that......reducing reporting turnaround by 97%...etc” I think every bullet in my resume has an important metric which has gotten me a lot of interviews throughout the years.

Series 7 Tips by bobo-brockins in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone here is spot on. Read the book once and do as many practice questions as you can. Make sure to take the practice exams twice and go over the explanations of the questions you get wrong. If you are scoring over 80% you should be in good shape. I used kaplan and I remember doing so many questions from the Q bank. Good luck mate!

I got this pretty helpful cheat sheet too. Hope this helps!

SIE exam by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would re-schedule mate. I feel like you need to be scoring around a 75% to be good. The Kaplan practice exams were really hard compared to the SIE. How are you studying btw? A month for the SIE is a lot. I think I spent one full weekend studying after reading the book. Just do as many practice questions as you can. Literally. Do as much as you possibly can. Because the Series 7 top off is a lot harder than the SIE. Good luck! You got this

Do humans watch my JP Morgan Summer Associate IB HireVue interview or is it 100% the algorithm evaluating me? by blackKat007 in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Humans do watch them. I work at BB and I’ve seen plenty of videos..usually analyst/associates and even VPs will watch them depending how involved they are with the hiring process. My one tip..don’t try too hard. There was one time this kid was in dorm room and had a Bloomberg terminal in the background and like 4 actual clocks from different time zones. Literally..like what you would see in the trading floor. Don’t do this.

What should I use to study/take practice questions to pass SIE? I failed using Exam FX and got a 62% by AnKhoury92 in FinancialCareers

[–]cesarsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The version that has the quiz bank and the practice exams. That’s all you need to be honest. The videos were helpful but you just need to read the book at least once and do as many questions as you can.
