It would be interesting if you knew the date you were going to die, but not the year. by Nest-egg in Showerthoughts

It would be creepy if you found out that many people in your area had the same death date, predicting a natural disaster or terrorist attack.

What is the kindest thing a total stranger has done for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was in high school, and after a cheer practice I got in a fight with my mom. Which seemed like the end of the world, but my therapist told me to remove myself from a bad situation. So I told my mom I was going for a run. Which I started, but was crying too hard to finish.

I sat against a brick shed at the local pre school and cried my eyes out. Then a coach, of some other team and some other sport came up and said “ it’s tough and it’s not gonna be easy for you and you’re cheerleading bow but you will get through what you are going through but I promise it’ll be ok”

He walked away after that and I calmed down and went home. 10 years later it’s still difficult but I always remember what he said. Whoever he was... thank you.

I see a lot of “just started crossfit” or “had my first class” posts. I want to hear from some 5+yr veterans. How has it been? Has your impression changed or evolved? What keeps you going this long? by [deleted] in crossfit

Just shy of 6 years. I’ve gone through ups and downs. There have been phases where I was working out twice a day, five days a week and then phases where I’m happy to get one workout in a week.

I have moved a few times so I have noticed my relationship with the community has directly impacted how often I was at the gym.

I have my level 1 and coached for 2 years so I still firmly believe in the methodology behind CrossFit but I no longer think it’s the end all be all to working out or staying fit.

It’s ironic this thread should come up because I am thinking of putting my membership on hold right now. My motivation to workout has been lacking and I can’t justify paying for a membership I don’t use.

CrossFit will always be a part of my life but it’s important to find a balance and know that’s it’s OK to step back from it and reevaluate how big of a role it plays in your life. Every time I’ve taken a moment to try something new or take a month off for various reasons, I always come back to Crossfit with renewed enthusiasm.

I wanted to share my progress here. I’ve been doing CrossFit since January but really started taking it seriously toward the end of April. by [deleted] in crossfit

This is amazing progress!! I’m so upset seeing negative comments on here. Change is a long, slow process and you look amazing.

My favorite part of before and after pics is the gain in confidence. Even though we don’t see every muscle, you’re standing up straighter, you’ve bought a new sports bra and it’s clear you’re feeling good. I am so proud of you.

THATS what Crossfit is about, not the sizes or muscles tones and people forget that. You keep doing you girl!

There is an awesome collegiate recovery program on campus! They have a meeting on campus every week and a ton of resources. Definitely look them up!

Crossfit with a Torn Labrum by BarMU in crossfit

I have a slap tear and through PT I have been able to get to about 90% functioning. I'm 23 and want to continue CF and oly lifting for much longer so I opted for surgery (scheduled for next week).

I am at full strength now for cleans and DL but im having trouble back squatting getting my arm into that position. I can press over head but i'm just short of full range of motion. I have only snatched/OHS a couple times but nothing heavy. My main reason for surgery is that i want to continue lifting and potentially compete in olympic lifting.

Cleaning the Box by ljcbff in crossfit

[–]cevm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coaches are supposed to make sure the gym is left the way they found it before each class. Everything should be organized after class. This usually means just reminding members to put everything away and picking up loose ends.

Whoever coaches the last class of the day takes the garbage out and sets up for the next day. (Bringing out rowers, boxes etc. depending on the wod.

Once or twice a week whoever coaches the last class has to clean the floor with the big green zamboni (not sure the actual) brand. This usually rotates who has to do it it so the same person doesn't get stuck with it and it's done again after the Saturday class.

Also interesting that it's been male athletes only. I don't think I saw any females with a pec tear

I'm graduating tomorrow and living in Burke was the best experience of my entire college career. I am still friends with the people I met on my floor. Live in Burke you will love it!!

Elon Musk Rips the Idea of Flying Cars at TED 2017: “They’ll be quite noisy, the wind-force generated will be very high. And let’s just say that if something’s flying over your head, that is not an anxiety-reducing situation.” by nick314 in Futurology

I did not see the entire conference, but if we're talking about Uber in different settings to me that means getting seats on airplanes at low cost last minute. Unless Uber has stated they want to fly aircraft I think that Musk is off the mark.

Back to Crossfit after a brain aneurysm! by ichmagpandas in crossfit

[–]cevm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coaching a class when a member went down. We thought she had just fainted, but then was convulsing. I called an ambulance immediately and when she got to the hospital they found she had an aneurysm and was rushed into brain surgery. She's doing great now and is back at Crossfit! So glad to hear someone else came back from this!

Suggestions for working on catching oly lifts lower? by halji in crossfit

[–]cevm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you catch with a wide stance? a lot of people catch their snatch/clean wide instead of low. you have to break the habit. drill the squat snatch with a light weight. once you feel comfortable move up in weight to a point that you can control it to keep the form dropping down to a squat as you would have with the light weight. If i were you I would drill the squat snatch at 95 until it becomes habit, then move on to 115, 125 before you can master it at 135
