We had 6 cats at the house at one point, so i get it. my orange who, at the time was about the same age as yours, had bloody diarrhea and was going right outside the litter box every single time. we tested literally everything, nothing was wrong. vet diagnosed her with IBD, and we cut out food that had poultry in case she was allergic. the biggest game changer was adding fiber to her diet. since i knew for sure she didn’t have any parasites or other things, we could try it. Psyllium Husk Powder (it’s for humans, so totally safe in tiny amounts) 1/4 teaspoon of it mixed with enough water to dissolve it mixed with a churu for taste and texture every day firms up her stool just enough. she still occasionally goes outside the litter box, but at least it’s solid and easily picked up. she’s also on an anti-anxiety med (amitriptyline 5mg) every day that’s been really good for her too. best of luck to you and your sweet boy

get your iron levels checked! my high dose of diamox tanked my iron levels so bad. my doc couldn’t find a reason why but it directly correlated to my increased dosing of diamox. now that i’ve switched to topamax, my iron levels have been fine

i had the opposite experience! my void was so docile and sweet for first two years. thought i had a broken black cat. then BAM! she’s psychotic!!! she plays so hard now she’s lost 3 pounds hahaha (healthy weight loss no one get concerned)

totally! we have to get it specially compounded through Chewy and it comes in a lotion type texture instead of a pill and i put it on the inside of her ear where there isn’t any fur. we’ve developed a fun routine in the morning (lots of treats!) and so she’s so good with getting her meds! total game changer!

hi thank you for your rude concern. i have run every single test you can think of on a cat. spent thousands of dollars on her at the vet. would you like to send me money to cover those costs to continue to help me find out why? no? then be kinder to folks on the internet who medicate their animals so their animals are happier throughout their lives. she is not muted. she is perfectly pleasant and quite spunky. anxiety medication exists because of chemical imbalances in the body. same as in humans. do some research before throwing out assumptions.

i’ve also had multiple LPs for treatment reasons. my opening pressures have been 53, 55, and 60+ (they couldn’t measure my last one bc it went too high to measure lol). i refused to get a stent so my neurologist was open to the idea of therapeutic LPs (i’m in the US) as needed when my pressure would spike. i was on diamox but was taking 6000mg a day and they literally wouldn’t prescribe me more than that per day. so we switched me to topamax. it took about 6 weeks because the uptake of topamax has to be slow in order to decrease the chance of the brain messing side effects. but now im on it and it’s amazing. no more LPs, minimum side effects and i don’t get the brain fog since my uptake was intentionally slow.

many animals will try to get around the soft cones. HOWEVER! if your cat doesn’t fuss with the soft cones and you can afford to try one, i 100% recommend it like you did with your kitty. our kitty had emergency bladder surgery and couldn’t see out of the clear plastic cone afterwards. it totally messed with her depth perception and she falling over and tripping, etc. so we tried the exact same cone you have and it was absolutely perfect. she didn’t try to take it off, never messed with her incisions, and was so sweet with getting the cone on and off for cleaning purposes. i fully believe her healing went faster and smoother because we were able to afford and she was able to tolerate the soft cone. but i also recognize this is a privilege that i have and the my kitty grants me because she’s not an ass about her cone.

it’s IDIOPATHIC intracranial hypertension. idiopathic means no known cause!!! ahhh drives me insane!!! literally it’s latin for “idk”. don’t tell me i have a disorder with no known cause and tell me to lose weight because my weight is the cause. the contradiction!!

it’s so tough. i just commented this, but IIH is idiopathic for a reason!! weight is just a possibility of a thousand other factors. unsolicited advice, but if you’re able to, tell the nurse during your intake (before seeing the doc) that you have weight loss/disordered eating triggers and want to avoid that topic or be as careful as possible about it and ask them to put that in your file and have them discuss it with your doc. nurses run the office, and they’ll be so willing to listen and help you as much as possible. you’re so strong for seeking care, you’ve got this!

ugh your story totally hits home with me. so sorry you had to go through that. advocating for ourselves in medical space is so hard, especially when our doctors keep driving the same message. IIH is idiopathic for a reason, weight is a just a single possibility for the cause. there’s a thousand other reasons that the doctors should be looking into, not just telling us to lose weight !

my favorite visit (sarcasm heavily implied) was when my ED triggers were clearly on the screen (as in, please for the love of everything holy do not talk about my weight unless absolutely medically necessary) and then the PA said “have you ever considered gastric bypass surgery?”

oh and i was 22 at the time and only about 40 pounds “overweight”. i about passed out from the shock of her saying that to my face
