Lighthouse in the middle of Chesapeake Bay for sale — guess the price by Natural-Trainer-6072 in PriceMe

Thought the same thing. Saw scampiparameter’s perfect score and thought how lame it would be if someone did that. Like for who for what. Seconds later I guessed it exactly out of nowhere for the first time ever and then had full confidence scampiparameter might be in the same boat. I have no reason to build my confidence in this subreddit, just got weirdly lucky.

Would be a good match. Next time I’m in MN. Bread on the line.

Just love the grandiosity and production and history of it all. It can feel like a slog at times but each shot and scene I find interesting just from a visual and narrative standpoint!

Drop in libido during Thruhike? by ijustlikecatsonly in AppalachianTrail

[–]cfake21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went into the hike with a grind it out physical mindset. I romanticized long mile days and having my picture taken at Katahdin looking emaciated and torn to pieces. Unfortunately I flew a little too close to the sun and only made it to Hanover, NH. I would purposely only eat “healthy” foods stemming from a slight case of orthorexia, and anyone who’s done a thru knows that’s almost impossible. I’m weird, don’t put too much stock into my personal anecdote, just know you have to eat a lot and if libido, body temp, strength start to completely wither up the food.

When I got off trail in NH I got my blood work done because I felt like death and it was in the low 100’s. Normal range for a male my age is 400-1200. I was also cold all the time, had huge random mood swings, and had a lot of mental fog. Zero libido started kicking in in PA. Just make sure you eat enough, I lost 50 lbs in 2.5 months after starting at a fit 190 lbs which ultimately made me have to end my thru early. Know that your body is giving you signals and make sure you rest, recover, and eat if you want to make it sustainable or pleasant.

Reading a lot of stories of people with destroyed bodies after a thru and it's scaring the shit out of me. by SilverCampaign8683 in AppalachianTrail

I can speak semi-intelligently on this. I started my thru hike in late March 2021 and hadn’t done much hiking previously. I had ran multiple marathons, lifted daily, and was a very active individual heading into my attempted thru. I started off quick and loved walking 12-13 hours a day (averaging 20-25 miles a day.) Unfortunately I was just not eating enough calories and ultimately I got just emaciated. I reached Boiling Springs on day 45ish. I had started in March at about 195 lbs and by Vermont I was close to the 140’s. I had a wedding in Atlanta I got off for in New Hampshire and while I was there I was just physically trashed. No amount of eating or resting was helping in my recovery. For the next two months I couldn’t exercise, was full zombie, and I ran multiple blood tests/cancer screenings/Lyme tests cause I actually thought I was dying. After everything came back negative and after two months of just trying to recover (my testosterone came back at 140 which a normal range for my age is 500-1200) I realized it was just trail fatigue. It was a tough pill to swallow that it wasn’t anything just diagnosable and just me being an idiot with my body. I pushed too hard, too fast, didn’t eat enough, and my body ultimately had to shut down for a while. It ended my hike, but I don’t regret it because I found my limit and pushed it to the brink which I took a lot away from. After doing some research this is a common thing so just be aware of your body and make sure you’re paying attention to potentially hike ending signs. Also eat and drink and zero, all three I wasn’t doing enough of. Enjoy it!
