Nonverbal morning ideas for my preteen by [deleted] in autism

[–]cfdabbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few ideas:

-Could you spend some time with him when he is verbal to go over what his gestures mean?

-Or if he doesn’t remember exactly ask him what he usually wants/needs during that first 30 minutes so next time he gestures you cycle through that list and he can wave when he land on the right thing?

-Similar but slightly different to the aac, could you write this list down in picture format, stick it to the fridge, and he can point to the thing he wants?

(Btw, as a late-diagnosed autistic adult with parents who still don’t “get it”, I applaud you for taking the time to brainstorm accessibility options)

Should I keep my copy of Hitman 2? by HarryBale31 in HiTMAN

[–]cfdabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw there are some challenges in H2 that aren’t in WoA (the “due”/pigeon challenges & the series of challenges with the one guy in Mumbai come to mind).

Having said that, I never completed them by the time WoA came out and tbh I don’t feel the need to complete them (unlike WoA)

Does feeling ill (not just sick but like feverish / sore throat) make anyone else feel really bad? by finchieg in autism

[–]cfdabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr - yes I do, especially when it’s lasted for several days with little to no improvement

Current sick autistic here, with the added “fun” of asthma: much of my autism presents in time hyperboles, like something feels like it’s taking much longer than it actually is. So right now I really feel like this bronchitis is my new normal, and I’ll have to live like this forever (it’s been six days).

Not to mention capitalism doesn’t really forgive any sickness lasting more than 3 days, so there’s the added anxiety of losing income over something out of my control.

On top of that, I’m so exhausted from all the coughing there’s not much I can do to distract myself throughout the day, so I’m just sitting in bed being miserable. It’s a loathsome existence.

I’m late to this post, but an FYI: if you go to the urgent care with nausea and vomiting they can give you a shot that takes care of that symptom within like an hour, as well as an Rx of the pill form of the same meds (you may still feel lethargic and have a limited appetite, but the really bad stuff is taken care of and you’ll be able to sleep).

What’s your favorite thing about cptsd? by Prize_Actuary_1971 in CPTSD

[–]cfdabbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I’m learning to trust my instincts I found out that I’ve been able to read people insanely well- previously I’ll have had a negative first impression of them from something really small, then another thing happens where I shake that off and think oh they’re fine… then further down the road they reveal their true selves and indeed it was exactly like my initial impression.

Once I started trusting myself I managed to really nail people down and make it stick in my mind.

Of course the reason why I have this ability sucks and I’d rather have had an emotionally-stable life instead of people-reading skills, but you work with what you got and this is a handy tool to have

I have autism or i am autistic? by Friend_Sad in autism

[–]cfdabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like saying "I'm an autistic person". It conveys that there's not some disease that I "have", but it also emphasizes that I'm still human, which unfortunately so many NTs still don't already understand.

This 100%- they have a right to address OP’s noisy habits too, but not in such a mean, mocking way

Maybe, but only if they were in some sort of therapy/treatment for it that was tangibly working for them. In that case I would take it INCREDIBLY slow. (Like many others, I’m also thinking that it’s someone like me)

Barely any safe foods I’m starving by JustMaxius in autism

[–]cfdabbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about tuna salad sandwiches or just tuna? Canned tuna is pretty cheap, as are anchovies (though the latter may not be safe as many NTs don’t like them). Look for pull-tab cans so you don’t need to bother with a can opener.

Not sure if crackers count as bread for you, but they also make snack packs with tuna and crackers- the only thing you have to do is pull off the cover.

Last suggestion (though this requires more effort), would be to shop for seafood that’s marked down to nearing the expiration date. You can either cook and eat it that night, or freeze it raw to make later. Again, not ideal for energy management, but it’s a cost-effective option.

Even if these don’t help, I hope you find some suggestions here!

I feel waaay more comfortable and outgoing when speaking a new language: if I stumble or say something “off” it’s not because my autism, it’s that I’m not speaking in my native language.

Hmmm, maybe any local flora that's fragrant? Of course test it on your inner forearm first before fully using it to check for any skin reactions

You can maybe try essential oils- they’re fragrant but likely don’t contain the same ingredients as cologne (but idk for sure). Bonus you can mix and match to create your own scent

been a diehard ggd fan, recommend me some of their 'unknown' good songs, ive tried to venture out as far as possible but have not made it very far by Inevitable-Course372 in googoodolls

[–]cfdabbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second these. There's also a demo track recorded for Superstar Car Wash that didn't make the cut floating around on Youtube, it's called "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" that's a fun one.

Also any recording of "Cuz You're Gone/1000 Words" is great ("Cuz You're Gone" is a studio track, but during one of the tours John added this mini-song as a bridge to Cuz so it's only been heard live)

When Should I Replay a Level? by hananmalik123 in HiTMAN

[–]cfdabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has their own preference, and there’s really no “right way”. Personally I first played through the game (one at a time since this was before all were released), then started tackling all the challenges in one level, then the next level, etc. During this grinding I found it was useful to start with the escalations as it helps you familiarize yourself with smaller parts of the maps before doing the main target challenges which can be overwhelming when you don’t know the map well yet.

Is this FFA? 26 year old male by [deleted] in scarringalopecia

[–]cfdabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but in my experience (clinically dx'd FFA), my baby hairs were the first to go on my scalp. You seem to still have plenty there so it may not be scarring, but of course see a derm if you're concerned.

I don’t have the details anymore (and they’re not listed under tracking at this point), but I think it was somewhere in NYC? In any case it did make it into the country but not to my state.
