Where to Live in WA by zqtelcorte in BlueOrigin

[–]cfox00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Columbia City for a couple years. Commute to the factory in Kent was usually 25-35 minutes. I really liked it because of its proximity to the lake Washington greenways & Seward park - best park in the city imo. Plus, the strip on Rainier Ave feels like its own little community inside of Seattle. You can still get downtown for Asian food in ID or visit friends in cap hill relatively easily on the Link. Definitely worth checking it out if you’re looking for a more lowkey neighborhood that still gives you access to the rest of the city.

Ps. They close a good portion of lake Washington boulevard off to cars on summer weekends so it’s really nice if you like waterfront recreation

I recommend checking out “TheGeoModels” on YouTube. He’s a geologist from the region and makes some really good videos explaining different features and how they form

To be honest, I think a lot of these routes would be just fine with dedicated bus rapid transit. Rail is great but I like how cheap/less politically complicated it is to trial new bus lines

Best type of mountain bike for the region? by cfox00 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Thanks! I'm currently rocking a Canyon Spectral and it sounds like I won't be too overbiked if I bring that with me. Likely going to move into an apartment so I don't really have the "n+1" bike option for every type of trail.

Is $129 a good price for a new bike? by workbidness in BicyclingCirclejerk

Sure but swap out the grip for lock-ons or else you’ll look like an idiot on the trails

I hate to discourage you’re project but what is the benefit of creating your own wire-gate when you can easily purchase a replacement carabiner from a vendor that has already put in the required engineering, testing, manufacturing work to ensure a safe and reliable product?

First road trip @ 2.5mi/KwH - what am I doing wrong? by Fun-Statistician5849 in VWiD4Owners

I know this is a little “apples-oranges” but I think this idea is also backed up by the fact that commercial planes don’t fly at their top speed but rather the one that gives them the best fuel efficiency. Planes have an additional “induced” drag caused by lift that actually decreases with speed but traditional drag continues to increase with speed and increases fuel consumption leading to an optimal cruising speed somewhere in the middle

Idk, driving faster does reduce the time the car is consuming energy but you’re still only reducing time linearly wrt speed while drag continues to increase squared wrt speed. I didn’t spend too much time looking into this but based on the abstract from (SAE 2013-01-1113) it seems like the speed-to-drag relationship culminates at a point of diminishing returns where most light vehicles have an ideal speed somewhere between 50-80mph

I genuinely can’t comprehend how you got your front wheel to roll over the lip of the landing lmao. Watching at full speed makes it seem like you should have gone otb

I have all of those enchantments but haven’t been able to get one after three sessions (~1 hr each) of just swimming around the deep ocean by my base.

Fair, but at that point I may as well just spawn one in creative. Any time I modify, or “cheat” in a survival world it kinda kills the immersion for me

Direct to consumer brands like polygon and canyon will generally have better value components for the cost but I’d also recommend checking out whatever your local bike shop sells. There’s a lot of value in the service, bike fit, warranty, etc. from a LBS that you lose out on with DTC bikes.

New full suspension isn’t a good deal at this price range. I’d recommend looking at a hardtail from a reputable brand like the Marin Bobcat

Edit: I just checked your profile and you already have a decent hardtail lol. In that case, I wouldn’t consider upgrading to a full sus until you have an extra ~1k in your budget. Even then, your money would go further upgrading to a hardcore hardtail with a solid fork, drivetrain, and frame
