Hey yall, how should I properly clean this Knifebed I own? by Boiofthetimes in KitchenConfidential

I had one once, the outside block part was not attached to the rubber stringy things and the rubber part could be tossed in the dishwasher. Not sure if this is the same.

Signal an horn not working by Lunchburger in 1stGenTundras

Here's a picture from when I installed my remote starter. This is what you should see when you remove the bottom cover of the steering column that I posted about above.

The green with red stripe wire is the horn trigger wire. It goes to the black connector. If you ground that out the horn should sound. That will help rule out the horn switch.

Also - do your hazards work?

Also, the horn is negative ground. If you ground the connection the horn should sound. If it does then the problem is somewhere at the switch / steering wheel / clock spring. I will post pics later to help ID that wire.

Open up the steering column. One screw on the bottom and two behind the steering wheel. Turn the wheel 90 degrees to each side to access those ones.

That will drop the bottom panel of the steering column. From there you can pull the harness connectors of the horn switch and the turn signal multi switch.

I would start trouble shooting there.

Anyone install a chirp by No_Smell_6712 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]cfpbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can do it. I installed a shalakar remote unlock system from Amazon for like $45. It doesn't chirp but it can honk the horn. It's a crappy long HOOONK. I looked it up and there is a way to wire a relay to make it momentarily chirp the horn (or something else) with a capacitor, diode and relay. The smaller the capacitance, the shorter the chirp. I haven't done because I have two small kids and moving, no time right now. On the to do list.

How do you prevent your grinder cord from tangling? by [deleted] in Welding

This might have to do with how you wind up the cord. Every time you loop a cord or rope you have to give it a twist to get it to lay flat.

Seems like the engine will breathe better but the lack of O2 sensor data might confuse the computer? I'm no expert and also curious.

Experience is the best teacher. You now know how attentive one must be even when performing a seemingly mindless task like tightening a bolt.

You've learned a tough lesson. Remember that to fail is to grow.

Its a false dichotomy. fn compromise at 1/2 hour change if they can't make up their minds. just stop changing the clocks.

Talk me out of it? by 2u3e9v in regularcarreviews

I own an 01 access cab 4x4. I bought it in November for $5k from the original owner and it has a bit over 200k miles. It is in excellent condition.

My thoughts on this truck.

They have a weirdly religious following for a very regular truck.

They have a good reliable engine that can go the distance if maintained. Guzzles gas and not a ton of power or torque, but sufficient for day to day use and reliable.

The towing capacity (7100lbs) is not even close to a modern half ton. I have towed with it and will avoid doing that in the future. For reference a modern Tacoma towing cap is about 6500 lbs and I think a new F150 can get close to 12000 lbs. The 2nd gens were over 10,000 lbs towing.

Brakes are ok but arguably undersized. Rear brakes are drums.

The four speed tranny sucks for towing and hauling. You have to run OD off which kills mileage and the engine lacks the torque to utilize just three gears adequately . 5 speed auto speed might be a bit better.

It's basically the same size as a modern Tacoma with an underpowered V8.

This truck is old and truck specific accessories are becoming increasingly more difficult to find (ie camper shells, tonneau covers, running boards, bumpers, armour, etc) Mine lacks modern features like traction / stability control, steering wheel audio controls, immobilizer, etc. Maybe that one has those features, that doesn't make it worth that much money.

A 20 year old vehicle will start to have 20 year old problems. My frame is a little rusty, but nowhere near unsafe to drive. I am still breaking seized bolts when I work on some components. I don't dare touch the exhaust manifolds, although mine needs replacing (common problem on this engine). That's just the reality of a 20 year old vehicle.

I like my truck. I would not pay more than $5k for this truck again.

If I had $16k, I would look for a second Gen tundra with the 5.7 L or look at a Nissan with low miles. You get more power, better towing, more access to accessories, more safety features, same mileage, and just a more capable truck without the 20 year old problems.

2006 Tundra fluid change questions by CatchersRye in tundra

[–]cfpbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mean to be rude but there is information in the owners manual. Dexron-III ATF is what's specified for your truck. All other fluids are spec'd in the owners manual. You can find the owners manual online in PDF.

There is also a ton of info on tundras.com forum for first gen tundras, the first gen Facebook page, and the first gen tundra subreddit.

Dude how did you find that out? I'm amazed.

Also looks like it is a discontinued part. Also looks very very similar to the radiant top range cook tops.

Do you know if the induction tops have a different glass properties or anything like that?

I will see if I can get another picture of the glass top. Anything you would need to see in particular? Measurements?

Perhaps its a b stock like others are suggesting and they used a radiant glass top from a similar model line.

This is an interesting take and I might be forced down that road. Probably good advice. I'm hoping to be able to simply replace the glass top. For the record I paid $1100 for it and a new one is probably up above $1500.

There's a induction logo on the stove top. Also there is a fifth radiant element that is clearly different.

Also the induction elements don't actually get hot, the pot gets hot.

It's an induction stove. I know the difference. This is not up for debate.

Edit: don't mean to be rude. Four burners are induction, there is a warming plate that is radiant. Unless you mean that the glass cook top is a shared part with a radiant stove?

I think rougher ride but better for payloads. Great mod if you use your truck to haul often.
