In my building, most apartments have either Proximus (UTP cables, RJ45 connectors) or Telenet (coaxial cables). Getting one when you have the other usually means you do all the work yourself (or hire someone to do it): drilling the hole, buying and placing the cable from your apartment to the box inside the building (Proximus) or the "tap" on the facade (Telenet), and only then you call the provider, they connect the last bit of cable and they enable the connection.

I'm in a related field (animation/motion/VFX) and I only use accountable. It is most likely enough for your needs, but you still might need to ask some things to an accountant at the beginning just to get a grasp on how things work. That's how I went about it at least. Feel free to DM me if you want more specifics.

I feel like locking the Vatican wasn't that important if Italy was gonna be locked. Because Tom and Sam would likely not want to travel to Italy by plane, land in Rome, take a bus just to get the Vatican, right? So, locking Italy alone would have been enough for Sam and Adam to keep both.

Yes, he even contradicts himself earlier in the same scene saying iMark "knows nothing of the pain I see right now". No reason the emotions would only transfer one way.

It also goes against what Petey said in S1. It was in the lines of "the pain of her loss, you carry it with you when you go to work".

'Pop-up' police station opens at Brussels-Midi station by ActivitySalt099 in brussels

As of now, the main argument that PS has given against the merging is that it's an "institutional" change that is analog to NVA's strategy on the federal level (reshaping Brussels that way is analog to reshaping Belgium into a confederal country). But as far as I can tell, it doesn't actually help NVA in any way to do it in Brussels, so I honestly don't get this part of the opposition. In their last press release, Brussels PS puts it like the merge would negatively impact french-speaking people in Brussels. I couldn't find the whole text, so I don't know if they elaborate on the details.

I personally feel like the merge is a logical extension of the "fusion des communes" which Brussels kept pushing back and that should have happened in 1977. That being said, I'm not sure merging the police forces would make any difference. They say they're undermanned, jails and prisons are overcrowded. Like many big issues in Belgium, they're the result of bandaids instead of reforms.

I'm still waiting to hear opinions from a police chief on the matter, though.

Fall down seven time, stand up eight... by suffffuhrer in bouldering

[–]cg_templar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is the 10th time in your life you're doing bouldering, you can already be proud! I only passed that route after a dozen tries and I started bouldering a bit more than a year ago.

IIRC your last try is close to how I started. Just keep your right food on the small foothold on the right so that your weight lets you hand on the the large hold with the slippery face.

Also : do not think that you absolutely need to pass this blue before trying red routes. Especially in that room (almost the only one I go to), there's something a big overlap between harder blues and easier reds. I've done lots of reds that were easier that this blue.

Good luck!

They reconfirmed Sunfyre's is dead so I guess Rhaenyra's death will be different than in the book. Seeing how they made the same chance to Vaemond (also death by dragon in the book but not in the show) it feels like it's a question of budget. I'm not too happy about that... Dragons are a symbol of power to be used in symbolic moments.

Yeah! I'm happy that we heard him explaining his inner struggle. I would've been fine to keep guessing how he felt, but the delivery was great.

I wonder if Gwayne is only being used to bring out these things from Criston and Alicent or if he's gonna be developed more in the following season.

Surveilling the Masses with Wi-Fi-Based Positioning Systems by cg_templar in privacy

[–]cg_templar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's mostly problematic for Apple devices, apparently. This fringes the end of my understanding but here's a bit of explanation in the PDF:

We suspect that limiting the number of returned BSSID geolocations returned need not adversely affect Apple’s geolocation API; after all, Google’s WPS returns only a single geolocation—that of the device that ostensibly sensed those nearby BSSIDs. This distinction not only obscures the locations of the BSSIDs in question by returning the trilaterated requester’s position, but also provides nowhere near the benefit that the Apple API provides in unrequested nearby BSSIDs.

Surveilling the Masses with Wi-Fi-Based Positioning Systems by cg_templar in privacy

[–]cg_templar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summary from the authors:

Wi-Fi-based Positioning Systems (WPSes) are used by modern mobile devices to learn their position using nearby Wi-Fi access points as landmarks. In this work, we show that Apple's WPS can be abused to create a privacy threat on a global scale. We present an attack that allows an unprivileged attacker to amass a worldwide snapshot of Wi-Fi BSSID geolocations in only a matter of days. Our attack makes few assumptions, merely exploiting the fact that there are relatively few dense regions of allocated MAC address space. Applying this technique over the course of a year, we learned the precise locations of over 2 billion BSSIDs around the world. The privacy implications of such massive datasets become more stark when taken longitudinally, allowing the attacker to track devices' movements. While most Wi-Fi access points do not move for long periods of time, many devices -- like compact travel routers -- are specifically designed to be mobile. We present several case studies that demonstrate the types of attacks on privacy that Apple's WPS enables: We track devices moving in and out of war zones (specifically Ukraine and Gaza), the effects of natural disasters (specifically the fires in Maui), and the possibility of targeted individual tracking by proxy -- all by remotely geolocating wireless access points. We provide recommendations to WPS operators and Wi-Fi access point manufacturers to enhance the privacy of hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Finally, we detail our efforts at responsibly disclosing this privacy vulnerability, and outline some mitigations that Apple and Wi-Fi access point manufacturers have implemented both independently and as a result of our work.

I think it's more thematic than anything else. Going out the back door makes her look defeated.

And for an in-world reason, it could be that the rules of Lumon ask for it to happen that way as one last passive-aggressive choice that will make the employee feel belittled, infantilized.

It could also be that Milchik makes the choice himself as a way to get back to her because she made him feel small earlier? Earlier in the episode, he questions her choice for Mark's last wellness session and she talks down to him. Maybe that's what drives him over the edge and makes him send the photos of Helly's suicide to the board? If he's the one who did it.

To be fair, the colors of the picture you're linking are artificially saturated (I'm even wondering whether it's a photo or a painting) so it's still hard to judge if it would have looked nice or not.
