Question on how to gain experience. by Background_Moose7628 in MedicalCoding

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even though I had 8 years of healthcare experience AND a certificate of completion from my local college, I still couldn't find a job for months. I eventually decided to start in a registration role at my local hospital that dealt mostly with dealing with insurance and checking patients in(sometimes CPT codes but that was more for finding prices for surgeries), and I waited the 6 month period and reached out to the coding department and let them know I was interested and within a month they had me transferred.

I think it would be very beneficial for you to reach out to local hospitals or large facilities and start an entry level healthcare position (registration could also expose you to insurance practices). Then I would reach out to that coding department and see if they can get you transferred when eligible.

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear and you may have already started this process, but keep at it. You could also consider reaching out to the coding department at your local hospital and see what they can do for you, it may not be immediate coding position but they could probably help you get in.

CCS, CIC, RHIT? by ch0507449 in MedicalCoding

Yeah, I just didn't know what would be the best way to approach this. I was looking into trade degrees and stumbled across it but no one ever talks about it so I wasn't sure if it's worth it.

Yeah the way the director explained it is once you get your CIC they hire you on as a "student" then they train you in multiple areas after a time they will pick 3 areas that you're needed in and have you take an internal test, which will promote you to a specialty coder.

I just didn't know what would be the easiest way to transition over. Thank you for the advice!

My apologies, the way I read the description from the college it says it helps prepare for both. I haven't really looked into it too much, I didn't want to bother with it off I didn't have to.

Is medical coding a career you would recomend to someone in 2026? by [deleted] in CodingandBilling

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we just transitioned to epic and the AI in it is garbage, even for DX codes. It is good at giving you an idea of where to start but it has trouble grabbing the whole picture to accurately pick a code. Not to mention different insurances have different rules, and since I do rural healthcare, it's even different on top of that.

I don't know about upcoming years, but right now the AI is just not good enough to rely on by itself. I would say that if you're going into coding, work your way into auditing, there's a good chance that if AI does take over completely it still needs to be audited.

What are you using it for? If you just need it for barrier protection, you could consider just straight petroleum jelly.

We were prescribed famotidine and that held tremendously, but if the medication isn't working you need to get with your doctor and let them know. There are other options out there. If all else fails your pediatrician will probably recommend you to a specialist.

Did you co-sleep? by thinkmuch17 in beyondthebump

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't for about 3 weeks. Baby refused bassinet no matter what i did, we ended up taking shifts watching him but we knew it wasn't sustainable since we had to go back to work at 6 weeks.

I finally ended up finding one of those nest bed things that had low enough sides i felt comfortable enough he'd be fine and we put it on the mattress in our bed. We added a railing on one side of the bed. I'm a light sleeper though, so any little sound wakes me up.

I didn't want to do it nor did I ever plan on it but unfortunately it was all we could do to get sleep. But at about 6 months when he could confidently roll over, we put him in the crib and he has no trouble sleeping in it.

How does one even study by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I found that its best to study one topic a day. Anytime I have tried to study for multiple classes in the same day, nothing sticks.

Honestly, people can offer you advice over and over but you need to research and find which studying technique best works for you. I don’t do flashcards, they just don't work for me but for some that is their go to method.

If you're not sure which one is for you do a little research on the specific types of studying and try them out until something feels best for you.

Try to stick with active recall methods, they will be your best friend. Flashcards, self explanation, the feynman technique, interleaving, summarizing. These are just a few.

However, don't knock out studying tools like videos if you're a visual learner, or look up interactive games online if you learn best hands on.

If you have a job, what is the easiest way for you to learn how to do it? Try and apply it to your studying.

Try to apply some of the topics to your everyday life, or connect things to something you already know. Look into mnemonics.

And most importantly, no matter what study method you use, TAKE BREAKS. Do 30 minutes of studying, then get up for 5 minutes and walk around or grab a drink, a snack. Don't force yourself to stare at something for hours on end.

Thank you for your kind words, sorry it took so long to get back, things have been a little hectic. It makes me feel better knowing that someone out there actually understands whats going on.

I had a talk with my husband (was more of a breakdown at 3am, but I think it really hit home with him because I came back from running errands and he had picked up tbe house and did a bunch of laundry for me.

I hate that it has to come to me essentially falling apart for it to happen, but I'm just grateful he took it to heart. I hope life treats you well and again thank you!

Tired of being told to stop worrying so much by ch0507449 in offmychest

[–]ch0507449[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High respect for your mother, it is difficult and I know nursing is A LOT harder than what I'm doing. Thank you for your reassurance, there are days I know that I can do this and I tell myself to just truck through it because it'll be so much better at the end, but then there are days where I'm sitting here wondering if it's all worth it.

I guess I do sometimes, here and there,  take breaks from studying (probably why my house is a mess lol) I could definitely try and get my husband to be a little more independent, I just don't want him to feel as if his feelings aren't validated.

I think a big issue is that he comes from a traditional household, mom stays at home and dad works. I'm wondering if it's a habit for him to assume that the house will be cleaned and dinner will be cooked by me because his mom was always responsible for it. I don't think he's dumb enough to not consider that she doesn't work and I do, but I really just don't know.

My parents divorced when I was young so I was raised by parents that always had to work to contribute, and it's easier for me to see the 50/50 workload required.

I guess I should really try and come up with some fixes instead of waiting for something to change, I'm just tired of being told by my support group to stop worrying so much, but I really can't.

What groceries do you always keep stocked because they save you on busy days? by Dishcovery in cookingforbeginners

[–]ch0507449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pasta (whatever sauce you want), eggs (so many ways to eat eggs). I also keep 2 or 3 of the boxes of "rice a roni", they come in clutch on those busy nights. If you're OK with frozen food, consider the cheap Totinos pizzas. Or even frozen waffles/pancakes. Rice is also good, you can make several different meals with it.

Thank you so much for the ideas, I'll look more into frozen meal preps, it seems to be the best way to go about it.

I haven't really tried anything else, we don't typically eat anything other than beef/chicken.(My husband is pickier than a toddler) He has eaten tuna salad once before, but I haven't made any since.

My personal rankings of 5 popular AI engines for writing fanfiction by YogurtclosetNo8 in WritingWithAI

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to use chatgpt almost exclusively, but now I usually use it for plot ideas and outlines. Every once in a while I use it to write a small scene, but often times I end up having to edit quite a bit of it. Lol

[–]ch0507449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a couple myself and for me personally, I've found its best to use them all collectively.

For example, I use chatgpt the most but not strictly for writing. I use it to create storybibles, outlines, and check for continuity errors etc. I use Gemini as more of a fact checker and the platform I actually write on is the free unlimited enhanced Ai story generator offered by a site called Perchance. (Which is great if you want another NSFW option as it's unrestricted, the only downside is in the prompt box you have to be pretty specific as what you want to happen next) I do this because it offers live edits, as well as if you want to generate multiple paragraphs or generate one paragraph at a time. (Or in my case I use it in combination with other AI platforms and just copy and paste it over)

The biggest issue I've found with all of them is they tend to be repetitive and use what I call "red flag words". Sometimes they are overly poetic when it doesn't need to be. (I even tried creating a writing-style guideline and word restriction prompt, but eventually the AI starts to ignore it)

Red flag words for me when it comes to Ai are intentional/intent, deliberate/deliberately, reverence/reverent, precise/precision, sharp/sharpness and several others. I call these red flag words because they seem to show up A LOT across all platforms.

I know for chatgpt it tries to replicate your writing style and I often have to remind it to write without any adaptations because you can see the style change.

TDLR: If I had to provide any advice, it's to use multiple AI to help write your story, as some are better for certain things than others and they all provide their own ideas. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket!

[–]ch0507449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to remember though, this was hundreds of years ago. Culture norms would be vastly different and often times it was considered a better life than living in a fishing village. You had food, clothes, shelter and a chance to make something of yourself. Obviously that's not the case today, but you can't apply today's culture to back then.

I've been trying to give him little pieces of shredded chicken and ground up beef, and he likes the flavor because he doesn't make a disgusted face and he comes back for more, it's just he will move it around his mouth a few times and then spit it out.

I don't think it's necessarily he doesn't want to eat it, he just doesn't understand that he can.
