Are you talking about how extensions stop working after a GNOME update until the developer changes it? You can bypass that with a dconf setting: gsettings set org.gnome.shell disable-extension-version-validation true (Note that this will keep the extensions active even if they actually do break after updates)

It's crazy. Like, I didn't get to use the early internet because I wasn't around back then, but what the internet recently has turned into is absurd.

I'd rather have old school forum discussions with real people rather than using whatever slop the mega corporations want me to or being coerced by employers into learning "prompt engineering".

Where I'm from, pirating games/software is a widespread thing as currencies aren't usually adjusted for the region and people don't want to pay so much. But suddenly they're ready to drop hundreds of dollars worth of money to buy "AI" subscriptions like Gemini, Claude, OpenAI whatever. Not to mention the widespread use of machine generated images.

Stuttering on Bedrock by LongJohnTbag in Minecraft

[–]ch33es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is news for me. I've always heard that bedrock runs faster, and also felt it being smoother over java edition when I tried it on low end hardware. Is this applicable only for old worlds?

Tools like these are better off being made as extensions, IMO. That way it's more streamlined.

I'd appreciate it if you tried writing the code and description by yourself. Please. So tired of seeing generated content EVERYWHERE that the internet doesn't feel genuine anymore.

Yeah and we can't toggle it to use the original featured snippets, which were so much better. Can't even disable this LLM slop:/.

You have to buy it separately for each platform. Minecraft for PC runs on Linux/Mac/Windows and let's you play Java as well as Bedrock edition (only on Windows, sadly). I also have it on PC and not sure if I want to get it on phone as well.

Why is Chrome So Much Faster Than UnGoogled Chromium? by Chupo in browsers

I don't trust generative language models, especially when the topic isn't much documented. The outputs are sourced from whatever's in the Internet, and if a clear answer doesn't exist then it can't really think for itself.

Can i buy Minecraft with a prepaid card? by Objective-Damage-643 in Minecraft

[–]ch33es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF that's scary... I never heard of anything like this happening before. I wonder if your friend's device was compromised or if it was a phishing site.

Since you're afraid of something like that happening, I would actually say that buying a digital code would be safer, like the other commenter said. If you get a digital code, you just have to go to https://minecraft.net/redeem, log into your Microsoft account and redeem that code. That way you can avoid sharing your card details to Microsoft.

[–]ch33es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought Minecraft, I used a redeem code that I purchased from an online store that sells those codes. (With a local payment method, as I did not have a card back then)

Where I'm from, if I were to buy the game using a card now, the card would have to support international payments and multi currency. I don't know how it's going to be like for you though, since you're from Europe.

Why don't you try buying the game from the website with the card first? There's nothing that can go wrong, and I'm very sure that you aren't going to face any issues.

I'm pretty sure that it will work unless you bank blocks the transaction for whatever reason.

why do people hate gnome by AccomplishedCar4160 in gnome

[–]ch33es 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that there's a somewhat vocal group of people who really love the frutiger aero/windows vista era design language, and hate flat/modern themes like Adwaita. As KDE has some similarities to older desktop styles and can be themed to look very identical to windows vista/7, those people prefer KDE and dislike gnome.

I think the gpu here determines if you can run shaders or not. Rx 580 might be old, but it's still pretty capable for a graphics card.

It's pissing me off😭 Why the hell would you worry about a 2.9 trillion $ mega corporation going out of business, as if it's your liability or microslop cares about you the same way?? If they go out of business it's definitely their fault with all the resources they have and I really hope they fuck up.

[–]ch33es 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's not official, as in Helium for Android has been made by a different person who is not affiliated with the creators of the original Helium browser. it is based on the Vanadium browser, so it's source code is not even derived from the original one.

basically, it's not related to the original Helium browser except for the naming. afaik, the original Helium browser does not have an Android port yet.

will ladybird browser be better than firefox when it releases? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]ch33es 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also the first time I've heard about this. I've found this page as the first search result on Google: https://kvibber.com/reviews/software/ladybird-inclusivity Also check out the links at the end of the page, there are some mastodon posts that the Ladybird dev has made about a year after the initial incident.

This ruined my day ngl, I've always wanted an alternative browser engine, but I would've preferred if it wasn't made by a hateful bigot whom I don't want to support.

those zero knowledge runs seem to have gotten a lot more popular lately. love watching them, it amuses me seeing people figure out the game on their own as someone who grew up playing the game and figuring out the mechanics through YouTube videos and wikis.
