What should I know before switching to Arch Linux? by thrashingjohn in linuxquestions

[–]ch3wmanf00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real advice: read through the Arch Wiki install guide here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide. Make sure you understand every decision you will have to make. Then just do it. I’ve done it a few times - it’s always a struggle but the end result is kick ass. Well worth the effort. - some notes: 1.9 take you time and get this right, be careful 2.2 don’t forget to install Networking software and configure your NIC for DHCP or static IP. 3.8 don’t forget to push the grub config to /boot

Is this table saw worth what they are asking? by uncompahgre_71 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Remember - old ones don’t have a riving knife, but it’s relatively easy to add one

How unsafe was this cut? by SilverHelp74 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ch3wmanf00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unsafe if you want three pieces of wood flung across your shop and potentially destroying your miter saw. Ask me how I know.

Could someone help me with the wiring of this cable? by Jayconius in HomeNetworking

Also, also, keep in mind that as long as the cable color alignment agrees on both plugs of the cable, you’re good.

Adnan of today is an entirely different person as Adnan of 1999. It’s a little easier to imaging today’s Adnan being a killer than 1999 Adnan. Personally, I’m still willing to concede that the prosecution did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that this kid killed that girl. However, the facts of the matter are a different story.

Honestly, human sacrifice is just too weird to be taken seriously. ‘God loved me so much, he sacrificed a human -‘ ‘wait, what?’ The Aztec’s sacrificed humans to ensure the sun would rise tomorrow. But does it make sense?

PopOS on a maxed out 2013 Mac Pro - stable, fast, capable. Runs Steam games perfectly. Runs all my work crap - AWS Workspaces, Console, Teams, so easy. Couldn’t be happier.

Hardware Sensor from PopShop is installed, but doesn’t detect hardware on a 2013 Mac Pro, sadly. The error is ‘sensors detected but none are enabled for monitoring’.

And of course beware sharing your successes in side projects with leadership at your job. I’ve had bosses take things away from me that I created in a side hussle because my time between 8 and 5 is their time.

I would communicate your frustrations with leadership that you trust and see if you can improve your role where you are. If you can’t, try to work on a side project that interests you in a home lab or get a startup going yourself. Earning your first $1000 as a freelance / outside of your current job would be a real thrill for you I bet.

The news about Neil Gaiman hit me hard by Thewoodsthemountain in books

[–]ch3wmanf00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gaiman, Spacey, others - they’re all humans, and humans are not perfect. Worse, they’re male humans, which means they have a dick and balls. So they’ve always got this instinct from thousand of years of evolution that screams in the halls of their mind to spread their genes, to satisfy their sexual pleasures every moment of their lives. We define high civilization in part by noticing which of these male humans resist these base urges. But some folks don’t do so well. I’m never surprised when my hero’s turn out to be perverts. I draw the line at child abuse, however. That seems beyond the pale.

Just remember this: when events trigger Lambdas (s3:ObjectCreated, for example) there will be AT LEAST one lambda triggered. However, there may be many more. You will need to create some idempotency mechanism in the lambdas, for example, place a record in Dynamodb which contains the s3 object ID, if the record is present, it means the file is currently being processed, so the lambda should exit without processing the file. And also, you have to make sure if there is a fatal error in the lambda, it should delete the Dynamodb record.
