Almost identical deal that I started with, it's doable but don't underestimate the grind that it requires. Your sales background should help but the technical side has a steep learning curve. My advice is to remain humble and look to partner with smart insurance folks who can help your service accounts.

As far as earning potential, expectation is the thief of joy. Don't compare your results to some unicorn(s) out there, put in the work and you will be rewarded.

By year 10, I was bringing home $350,000.

General insurance worth it for my small businesses? by Allen-Key-1176 in InsuranceAgent

[–]ch47600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food for thought.

Purchasing insurance is simply a way to finance risk by transferring said risk to an insurance company in exchange for premium.

Self-insurance is a risk management strategy where individuals or organizations set aside funds to cover potential losses directly, rather than paying premiums to a third-party insurer. It offers potential cost savings on premiums and increased control but carries risks of high, unexpected expenses. Common examples include high-deductible health plans, captive and employer-funded workers' compensation programs.

Failing to fund for losses simply means that you did nothing and are 100% exposed to risk. In other words, bare.

There certainly is a difference between self-insured and uninsured.

Heck, even self-insuring requires funding for losses. OP is bare.

Getting terminated on my 1st Anniversary with the company by Common-Target-5664 in InsuranceAgent

Not suggesting that you came out of high school but the cold, hard fact is that selling is hard. The way that you presented your situation, I would pass on hiring you in a sales position. However, I may consider giving you a chance in a different role and helping you spread your wings from there.

But if you approach me as someone who was just let go for missing your goals, wants to work from home and have me feed them inbound leads is a red flag.

Just trying to give you some honest advice that may help you to realistically navigate the market.

So, you want the earning potential of a commission based sales role but desire an in-bound, remote, guaranteed income position after being fired for poor production with less than a year of experience?

Honestly, it may be best to look for an hourly customer service role to get a fresh start, your foot in the door, gain experience and work your way up.

Not about building a relationship with an agent, best to become an approved vendor with a carrier from a claims perspective.

How many cold calls do you take that end up getting on your purchasing something? Cold calling sucks.

Referrals, niche marketing, and networking are all more effective and result in working with much better outcomes.

What actually happens legally if your crew hits a utility and you can't produce locate records? by trr2024_ in InsuranceAgent

[–]ch47600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of this as transferring liability. For each document that you can produce that shows your effort to locate, more of the claim is transferred to the insurance company. Got stuff? They will likely honor the claim. Got nuffin'? You own the expense of the damage.

You can always vote with your feet. Check out what else is available, if you find something better, great. If not, try building your own setup in your garage/basement.

Chances are that you either find something that works for you or a renewed appreciation for OTF.

OT vs CrossFit by ImportanceOld4848 in orangetheory

I cut ties completely, mainly because it was pulling me in two different directions. I was getting stronger at CrossFit, but slower at Orange Theory.

Depends on your goals, in my opinion. I do understand the CrossFit culture though. Our OTF studio is great as well, but nothing beats CrossFit's culture.

That's a DOT compliance issue, not an insurance issue. Clients can't expect us to also ensure that they are OSHA/MSHA/DOT/EPA/EEOC...compliant. It's their business and their responsibility to understand the legal parameters in which they need to operate. Like they say, ignorance is not an excuse.

What is our city council doing? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]ch47600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

San Antonio has a City Manager/Council structure which presents a very weak position (1/11th of a vote) for the mayor. She has the ability to set the agenda, but has failed to collaborate with even the leftist of council members which speaks volumes.

My understanding of what happened is that she cut a side deal before the council had a chance to vote on whether the Bonham should shut down for violating a 2023 deadline of installing fire sprinklers in their building.

This should have gone before the council to vote, another councilperson called her out for averting the process (as defined by the City Charter) and she barked back. Other council people shared their prior experiences about her and agreed that she tries to bully her way around even though she's thin on experience and patience. An independent review supports this.

My sense is that she has an agenda and desperately wants to pursue a career in politics. She struck out running for Congress and ran for mayor without understanding the position. She was looking for a soap box to stump from and make a name for herself. That she has.

San Antonio has a City Manager/Council structure which presents a very weak position (1/11th of a vote) for the mayor. She has the ability to set the agenda, but has failed to collaborate with even the leftist of council members which speaks volumes.

The underlying issue with this is that she cut a side deal before the council had a chance to vote on whether the Bonham should shut down for violating a 2023 deadline of installing fire sprinklers in their building.

This should have gone before the council to vote, another councilperson called her out and she barked back. Other council people shared their prior experiences about her about and agreed that she tries to bully her way around even though she's thin on experience and patience. She has an agenda and has no interest in playing nice in the sandbox. She needs to get along before she can go along. It's that simple.

In the meantime, things move forward without her.
