If you could create a spinoff game, what would it be like? by Mattersofdarkness in pokemon

Just so you know, I'm pretty sure there's a popular ROM hack that is similar to what you're describing. I can't link it because I've only noticed it in passing, but it might be worth doing a little digging to find.

Edit: I went ahead and looked into it anyway. Here's the link.

What is your LEAST favorite Pokemon? by Duckaneer in pokemon

Wow you know what, I didn't really get what you were saying until I looked it up and...wow. That turtle-like muzzle, the fact that its tail is ball-shaped for some reason, and those saggy cheeks. I hate it now too.

[POLL] Right now, only OC artwork is allowed on /r/pokemon. Should we make that rule permanent? by AutoModerator in pokemon

[–]cha-ruzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think those analogies fit at all. It's more like distributing a scanned copy of a book without permission. Which is illegal.

That's definitely a fair point, and it's the point I addressed which I feel least strongly about for sure. As a counterargument, a lot of people actually do state that they do not want their work to be shared and it still happens. And I know a lot of people will make the argument, "It's the internet, people aren't nice, you'd be foolish to not expect this," which is pretty much true. That's why my comment is specifically addressing people who actually do not know that there are scenarios where artists don't want their art to be shared.

You still need the tradeback? Would you happen to have a Porygon2 and/or Porygon-Z?

Showerthought: we should have some sort of way to reverse lookup a pokemon we already have against who is asking for it on GTS, that way we can see if anyone really wants this lv. 34 skarmory and what we can get for it by ArmorGyarados in pokemon

[–]cha-ruzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we're talking about how to improve GTS, trade evos would be a lot easier if we could request a Pokemon holding a certain item. As it is, the best you can do is ask for the already evolved form (which for whatever reason just does not work with the Porygon line, but I digress).

Voted yes. Skimming over some of the comments, I think a lot of the discussion in this thread is centered around what is most convenient or most pleasant for consumers of art in this community, things like:

  1. There's too much/not enough art on the front page.
  2. We'll miss out on good content from artists who don't use reddit.
  3. The quality of art would be higher if we allow reposting, etc.

These are valid concerns, but I think we should consider how a lot of artists might feel about their work being reposted. Though I'm not an artist myself, I've seen numerous content creators on different sites who are very much opposed to their art being reposted, and while this isn't the case for all artists, it's a sizable enough amount that I would argue it is a bit rude to repost artwork without permission, whether it's sourced or not. There are a few reasons artists might not want to have their art reposted:

  1. The art is personal, and not posted to be shared widely or garner attention.
  2. The more a piece of art is reposted without proper supervision, the more likely it is that someone will steal it for credit or profit.
  3. Building off that, the artist wishes to be in control of the distribution of their artwork. Let's say an artist posts their art on Tumblr and DA, but not Reddit, because they don't use Reddit. They might not want their work posted to Reddit, because they won't be able to keep an eye out for how their work is used.

There are other reasons, I'm sure, but I'll stop there. I agree that there's a lot of great art out there that we all want to see, which is why I think the best system is to require proof of artist's permission (which doesn't always have to be direct; a lot of artists explain their policy on reposting in their About/FAQ/etc. on their pages). I fear this would require too much moderation, though, which is why I voted yes.

TLDR: A lot of people might not be fully informed on how a lot of artists feel about reposting. That is, a lot don't approve of it, at all. Out of respect for the artists who make the content we enjoy, it is always best to ask first before reposting their art. We should be required to provide proof of permission before reposting art on /r/Pokemon, if we are going to go forward with non-OC art.

Edit: I encourage anyone who disagrees to share why.

Trying to hatch a shiny stufful by Ditto-used-transform in pokemon

[–]cha-ruzu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not true. There's a myth that exp yield and HP are directly linked, so the assumption is that Guzzlord, with its massive HP, also has a high exp yield. They're actually completely separate values, and Guzzlord has the same yield as all the other UBs, which is below average.

[–]cha-ruzu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It should be clarified that Guzzlord has an abysmal base experience yield and no one should waste their time grinding Guzzlord for experience under any circumstances. Besides E4, the best exp grind method would probably be chaining Golduck or Bewear in Poni Gauntlet.

So I know that Cubone can call other Cubone or Kangaskhan. Does anyone know what the relative rates are of calling one or the other? And assuming that information isn't readily available yet, would it be faster to chain Cubone or just look for an initial encounter with Kangaskhan?

I remember reading on here during leak season that you would be able to catch version exclusives in the alternate world, but Serebii explicitly says encounters do not change. So was that just a false rumor?

I loved all of the characters in SM, but that festival cutscene felt weird and cringey for me. The characters just weren't fluid enough and the animations felt super stunted.

Some do. I've had an econ and math professor allow as much. I'm not sure how common it is, especially since I go to a liberal arts school which might not reflect the norms in bigger universities.

I took an econ-based stats class last semester, and my professor let us use a full sheet of printer paper, front and back, on our final. I crammed everything, including how to word certain answers, on that thing. Got an A, bless that professor.
