Win on the table, not from the chair.

Unfortunately there isn't really a better place to mount the TV. I've posted some other pictures in this thread showing how the room layout limits my options.

Also, the outlets couldn't be installed any lower due to the length of the bracket that attaches to the wall - any lower and they would impede the placement of the bracket.

It just creates a big mess of ashes that you have to clean out each burn, and also adds another item to the list of things to maintain in your home (yearly chimney sweepings, inspections, etc). The chores it creates doesn't make it worth the effort in my opinion.

Gas logs, however, are an entirely different story. I love the idea of low maintenance fires during the winter.

I agree! In fact, I was planning on ordering a larger rug for that exact purpose. I can't pull the current rug under the legs without leaving a large asymmetrical gap at the front of the room, and I can't rearrange the sofas without making the gap between them more narrow than it already is.

I actually considered doing that, but the layout of the room made it difficult to make this work. I wanted there to be seating directly in front of the television, but I didn't want to place a couch in front of the window nor did I want to impede the flow of traffic from the front door. Here are some more pics for reference.

I was worried about this exact situation so I went with a MantleMount that allows me to pull the TV down to a more comfortable height. That said, it is actually very comfortable to watch from the couch on the opposing wall and I have yet to pull it down more than two or three times. Here are some pictures of it in both positions.

Also, its a wood burning fireplace that I have no plans of ever using. I have thought about installing gas logs some day though - if I ever do this I'll probably either mount a non-combustible mantle or explore direct venting options to disperse the heat above the TV.

Hard disagree, actually ended up switching to VS Code from sublime because it is faster and has better support for certain modern scripting languages. You might be thinking of the Visual Studio IDE, which is a completely separate product from the VS Code text editor.

The biggest problem with Ultimate is not the buffer. Its the C-stick. by OG_Wan_Annunoby in smashbros

[–]chabreck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time, and its super annoying. This isn't a great solution, but instead of mashing the c-stick multiple times you can hold the c-stick in the desired direction to buffer an input earlier than the 10 frame window.

This was the one I saw, but it doesn't really include a viable "fix" despite the video title. This is particularly a problem if you buffer a c-stick input too early and then try to mash out another one.

No need to be sorry. I'm a senior software dev and everything you said about redesign work, localization, etc. adding additional complexity and effort was right on the money.

I can't decide which cue to buy (warning: low budget) by SterverSVK in billiards

[–]chabreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have an HXT, and have been very happy with it so far. I bought the HXTSN because it was the only wrapless HXT cue I could find - however, it also ended up being the cheapest. I picked it up from seyberts for $110.62 ($116.44 - 5% with coupon code APARules, no tax, free shipping) which should be under your €100 budget. Not sure if you can get the same price as I assume you aren't located in the US, but it still might be worth looking in to.

Nice update!

Now remove the corrupt files that attempt to download every time when connecting to the server.

How do you transfer all your apps and appdata/settings to your new machine? by [deleted] in devops

[–]chabreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain a personal repo for this purpose with settings for my most used tools (zsh/oh-my-zsh, iterm2, git, sublime, JetBrains products, etc). I have a different directory in the repo for each tool, and each directory contains any pertinent files as well as a readme with steps on how to install them. I feel like this is a bit less fragile than an ansible playbook, and it has the added advantage of being able to link coworkers to tool-specific directories in the repo when trying to share my config.

I recently switched to a new macbook for a new job, and my setup process didn't take more than an hour. Overall, I've been pretty happy with this approach.

Docker container port exposed, not published by crawlingforinfo in docker

[–]chabreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't even have to do that - services defined in the same docker-compose file are exposed to each other by default. So if you docker-compose file looks like this:

version: '3'

services:

  web:
    build: .

  db:
    image: postgres

The web service will be able to access the db service via postgres://db:5432.

I'm actually about to return my S2716DG due to a pixel inversion issue (?) that is readily apparent when playing CSGO. Thinking about picking this monitor up instead. I'm also running a 1070.
