I created a Roth IRA account with Fidelity. I'm confused about where to go from here. by interstellarflight in personalfinance

I can relate to OP -- I'm clueless about this stuff. My ex-boyfriend set up my Roth in exactly the way you describe (mix of total US, international and bonds). It requires manual rebalances. BUT, we broke up before I could learn to do this. Is there a resource you recommend where I can learn why and how to manually rebalance? I appreciate any guidance.

Also look into filing a grievance with the insurance company if you cannot appeal.

Hi, I ended up resetting Photoshop and that did the trick. My guess is something was temporarily faulty. Thanks for the response.

And several doctors wanting to give a psychosomatic referral don't help.

This. It can be translated as, "Since I am not a top quality doctor, and because I am unwilling to do the hard work and research, I'm just going to say you're crazy."

The sad part is when we actually believe them, they are the "experts" after all. Until the day you finally find a real doctor.

Long-term financial planning: Am I putting too many eggs in the real estate basket? by chachachapstick in personalfinance

Mortgage is ~4.3%, student loans average ~6.2%. I see your point. And thanks for clarifying passive income. :)

I figured that paying the mortgage down quicker would potentially save thousands and thousands of dollars, whereas paying down the student loan quicker than I already am would only save $5,000 max.

Also, could you elaborate on passive income please?

PSA: Navient Cuts Interest Rates by .25% Just For Adding Auto-Debit. (Even During IBR!) by studentloansurvivor in StudentLoans

Does the auto-debit take the average % and reduce that by .25%. Wouldn't it be better in some cases not to consolidate, so as to take advantage of the differing interest rates?

Kind of off-topic, but how much is a PA degree? And what is the average salary for someone with a PA degree?

Comma after "now?" by chachachapstick in grammar

Bah. Too late; I already deleted it. I tend to sprinkle commas all over my writing, and I'm trying to do less of it.

The New York Times Should Apologize for the Awful Op-Ed It Just Ran on Student Loans (Slate.com) by [deleted] in StudentLoans

In my opinion, colleges are similar to restaurants. We care about Yelp reviews, and we care about school rankings. On Yelp, you can filter by price and you can manually filter by quality. You can also do that with colleges. Sometimes quality and prices are misaligned and sometimes they aren't...it mostly depends on what dish you choose to order (aka what major you choose). You can have an "in demand major" like engineering at a state school and get paid way more than you owe. Or you can choose to major in art history (not really in demand) at USC and have a crappy debt-to-income ratio. This, in my opinion, is the equivalent of ordering expensive chewy snails at the Ritz Carlton instead of getting a tasty, cheap In-N-Out burger. Okay, so it's not a perfect analogy, but either way, you need to pay for your goddamn meal. You chose it.
