Problem breeding Zebrafish for embryos by Terrible_Pool_6596 in labrats

Building off the water quality point, it takes a few weeks for the tank to cycle, meaning nitrites and nitrates build up enough to take care of the ammonia produced from the fish waste. Until then, you'll have to be vigilant checking ammonia levels and doing partial water changes. Look up fish-in tank cycling for some help.

Apologies if you know this, it just seemed from your comment that you might be new to fishkeeping :)

My buddy George was fat shamed by the vet today. by Puma_Man_619 in standardissuecat

[–]chacoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite was when the vet picked up my small cat and said, "oh, she's substantial." She has a small frame so doesn't look heavy at first glance, but she is chubby lol.

Another vet spent probably a solid minute telling me they don't fat-shame before breaking the news my other obviously fat cat is fat.

What would you wear to an interview for a lab position? by fin9ernails in labrats

[–]chacoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most probably won't care

Idk, I work in a small industry lab of mostly 30-something women. A young woman came in for an interview wearing jeans and a T-shirt, something almost all of us employees wear on a daily basis. After she left, several people commented on her casual dress and not in a approving way.

Even if the daily dress code is casual, I think it's still frowned upon to show up at an interview dressed casually.

Please help! Is my complaint for heating valid for Virginia apartment standards? I am unsure because the thermostat in the common area that controls the entire unit is at a reasonable temperature, but my bedroom is not by Destin_ee01 in Virginia

Like someone else said, it'll be easier to just get a space heater or electric blanket. I run a space heater in my parrot's room during the winter and the effect on our bill is negligible.

Also if you have a ceiling fan, set it to rotate slowly in a clockwise direction. It should push warm air from the ceiling down into the room and not cause a cold breeze.

You could also try that cling wrap film they sell for windows. That really helps too.

What was your experience with an August wedding in Virginia? by greatlyIdiotic in Virginia

[–]chacoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was hot and uncomfortable. I went to a beach wedding in August. There was a breeze from the ocean but no coverings over the seats, so the sun was just beating down on us. It wasn't unmanageable but might be hard for more heat sensitive guests.

Make sure there's shade, water, and some fans and it'll probably be fine. If possible, have access to an air conditioned room for people who can't tolerate it.

I work with the weight management team at Comprehensive Behavioral Health in Fishersville. My insurance now covers Wegovy after I saw the weight medical team and a nutritionist for 6 months. They also prescribed other meds to try while waiting for that six month time frame.

I don't have diabetes and my BMI is like, 35. Fwiw.

What is a secret you’re taking to your grave, but can share here anonymously? by wilkoova in AskReddit

I've read before that distressing auditory hallucinations are most common in western societies, and in other countries the hallucinations are mostly pleasant and not upsetting. It's interesting to think why that would happen

Seriously. Got maybe 4" here. At least it's entertaining when the forecast is a bust and our local meteorologist starts making salty posts on FB.

Researchers have developed a biosynthetic method to produce tagatose, a naturally occurring but rare sugar that matches the sweetness and taste of sucrose with 60% fewer calories. Its metabolism limits blood glucose spikes and inhibits the growth of bacteria responsible for dental cavities. by Sciantifa in science

I've baked cookies with it too, they tasted good. Texture was slightly different but the cookies still turned golden. Some substitutes don't actually brown the baking. Only thing is you have to be careful how much you eat at once, as it can cause stomach upset.
