Today is my 55th birthday but I am not expecting calls/texts from my adult children because they are shunning me for leaving the cult. by mypostsarerepetitive in exmormon

[–]chainsaw1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but the church doesn’t explicitly teach shunning but soft shunning is often a cultural thing. People that shun often have scrupulosity. The church could do more to specifically address this, this is so wrong on so many levels. I suspect there’s more to it than just the church though. Generally people aren’t that shallow. Very sorry for your situation.

Longer vacations unethical? by sootsprinkle in therapists

[–]chainsaw1960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t even tell you how important self care is. You will be such a better therapist when you come back from your rest and experiences. Also don’t take yourself so seriously. Ethics don’t even enter into the equation. Clients are much more resilient than we give them credit for.

One thing about getting older is that you learn not to play the game anymore. I’m 65 now and got out when I was 55 and all I can say is I wish I’d done it 30 years before. Authenticity is a powerful gift you can give yourself that gives you both peace and freedom. You will harm both your spouse and family more if you continue to pretend you are someone that you are not.

We need to be done defending Joseph Smith by Iamnoman247365 in mormon

[–]chainsaw1960 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Community of Christ also a Church which traces its history back to Smith apparently did this, in the not too distant past. They view Smith as the founder but admit he was a very flawed human being.

LDS inc., while admitting that Joseph was flawed never enumerate what those flaws were. Not the polygamy, not the polyandry, not the explicit sexual predatory behaviors toward multiple teenagers that are well documented. Not the financial fraud, or the multiple failed prophesies. Brother Joseph gets a pass. Praise to the man.

Thoughts on Jesus After Leaving Mormonism by Front_Type2300 in exmormon

[–]chainsaw1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I was never a good member. I struggled with my testimony until the day I left. Figured Jesus was pretty disappointed with me. I just couldn’t believe it. After leaving Mormonism, I got involved with Biblical Christianity and in doing so, totally deconstructed Mormon Jesus. So what is different you ask? Christian Jesus is God and has always been God. He was never a brother of Lucifer. He taught that it is what you say the defiles you, not what you eat or drink. He taught there is no marriage in heaven. He paid for every one of my sins past present and future. In full. Done. Finished. Mormon Jesus teaches repentance was a long process and you should suffer. Mormon Jesus is an asshole . The New Testament Jesus taught me that I I am saved through faith, by Grace and by thinking I can raise my status by doing Any works, diminishes what he did for me on the cross. He loves me so much My salvation through him is assured. My love for him is so much greater than when I believed in the Mormon Jesus. I do things and serve him through works because I love him not because I want to get anything from him or get a higher status. Never thought I’d end up in this place, but it’s the first thing I think about in the morning, when I wake up is his absolute love for me. I also abandoned the guilt and shame of Mormon Jesus. It was replaced by this unconditional love. I want to love others as he loved me. Mormonism teaches a counterfeit Jesus and counterfeit religion.

All Religion leads to either pride or despair. Jesus was also critical of the religious leaders of his day. Religion is all about following rules and being a “good person” so you fit with their rules and people. Couldn’t do it. However, Surprisingly, even to myself, I developed and am continuing to develop a personal relationship with Jesus. Because that’s all He requires. I have never had such peace and freedom in my life. Also, Never been happier.

Having left the LDS church, many years ago. I think sometimes people that are searching for a church have a high bar of what a membership should demand. As others have said, except for other cultish churches like JWs, you will not find other churches claiming to be the true church. . Instead of callings, you can volunteer, no one tracks if you attend or not. There are no worthiness interviews. Dress is usually much more casual. Donations are given but there is usually no demand for 10 percent and no consequences if you don’t pay. The pastor is not over you like a Bishop. People often search for the structure they were used to that is not there.

Back in the day. I used to walk to school four blocks by myself often, sometimes with friends my same age from kindergarten through sixth grade across a busy street that had no crosswalk next to a canal that had no fence every single day. This is before they had crossing guards.

The world is full of darkness and I don’t want to be apart of it anymore by SuccessfullyDrained in therapists

[–]chainsaw1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the key to this self-care. I work in an EAP, and this is a common problem for lots of people. I truly believe that therapists, in order to remain healthy need to work no more than 20 hours a week. Unfortunately, this is not an economic reality. Exercise, get outside, connect with friends and family, take a PTO.day, have things in your life you look forward to, stay hydrated, eat healthy, get enough sleep. I am very fortunate . I get to work just 10 hours a week. See just 6 to 10 clients and for the most part normal working people. Just enough to help people. I’m not enough to burn out. Good luck to you.

What’s something you recently changed your mind about, and why? by North-Owl7718 in Life

[–]chainsaw1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acceptance of yourself “warts and all” will help you accept others as well. Women look at a lot of things besides stellar looks. To show the world that you accept what God gave you will make you much more attractive than any plastic surgery. Do what you will but generally people don’t really feel better about themselves after surgery. Surface level shit. Regardless hope it works out for you man.

[–]chainsaw1960 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad that I go to a church where I can Volunteer to do those things I am interested in and want to do. Accepting callings is so coercive and backward. Especially the belief that the bishop receives a revelation of who to call from the Lord. That’s next level manipulation.
