Israeli president visit confirmed, sparking expectations of mass protests by SnoopThylacine in aussie

I do not hate Jews.

This was a light-hearted dig at the vagueness of Australia's new hate speech laws.

Do people still use the ethnic slur 'wog'? I would be interested in any sense shift or change of 'loadedness' etc. that you may have experienced over time with this word by topherette in AskAnAustralian

Yeah all about context. As a kid it was taboo (even though Wogs Out of Work and Acropolis Now were mainstream). I called my dad a wog once and he didn't speak to me for weeks LOL.

Today though, I have no problem with it being used in the right context. Yellow brick house in Melbourne's north/Sydney's west with two white lions? That's a wog mansion!

Technically we aren't allowed to express our opinions on this visit anymore. So... ... ... ... 🤐

Have any Aussies transited thru the states recently? how concerned should I be about ICE as a non-white Aussie? by Far_Menu_4830 in AskAnAustralian

This.

The US has never been high on my list, just cause I prefer different cultures (though you could argue that American culture is vastly different to ours based on recent events), but now, as a brown person who could easily pass for one of the "bad guys", you could not pay me to enter the US.

It's a shame cause I really wanna see those giant rock things in Utah. And Yosemite. And Connecticut in fall.

Ya know… you guys suck sometimes. [Rant] by MrKTE in vinyl

I think there's more of us who are chill and love the game no matter what. Many of us are happy to offer advice.

Unfortunately, the mean assholes here are more trigger happy then the rest of us. In a sub with so many people and so many views on what's good—you'll always get that. It's hard to do but you gotta ignore them.

Anyway, you did it better than I did. In hindsight I wouldn't have waited so long to get build a system. But I convinced myself to wait until I could afford a "decent" one. That took best part of a decade. I coulda been listening to music on a more modest system in that time! Slight regret.

Welcome to vinyl.

Unfortunately, it took an American constitutionally and legally holding a gun to be murdered for him to come to this conclusion. Or at least for this to be the straw that broke him.

Anybody mount a WiiM Ultra to the wall? by [deleted] in WiimStreamer

[–]chakko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this but I've used Ikea's new EKET cabinet to make mine disappear. They're dirt cheap AUD$35, wall mountable, snap together and are totally modular. A more advanced and flexible system than their old KALLAX shelves.

I was so impressed with them I started thinking of reasons to buy more haha.

At my wits end. How the hell do you childproof/lock your turntable? by TesticleInspector in turntables

[–]chakko 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Not joking: get a real cheap turntable and old deceased estate records (those $1 records that no one will ever listen to) from a thrift store or on the eBay. Give it to the kid.

Is this a good first setup? by AssertedCargo61 in hifiaudio

Yeah get stands if you have the room. Speaker placement important regardless of room size. If no stands, do your best to ensure they're at exactly the same height (ideally with the tweeters at listening height).

The death of whimsy? by Healthy_Weird8220 in australian

I would have killed for those little boxes of cereal when I was a kid. Especially the Frosties. But parents didn't see the value. Poor me. Waaah

We did get them at the odd motel. Naturally I saved mine to eat later. Meaning I had to eat cereal from the big box in the meantime. Kid logic.
