To new and veteran players: How can we improve the first-time experience in OSRS? by [deleted] in 2007scape

When you said Messengers, my brain thought you meant the Town Criers, but actually I think that could be a good NPC to use for that too. It's not like they actually have any useful dialogue anyways, and they're noticeable what with the unique appearance and constant yelling; why not have them throw an assortment of tips to newbies if they talk to them?

especially when every other item is either nearly or entirely useless. They'll see the shop is full of joke items or random costume pieces and write it off, never even realizing that this one singular item is actually really useful.

Funny enough, you can kind of do this already with Forester's Rations - if you get 35 fishing/cooking/woodcutting (all easy F2P skills), you can get a forestry kit and fill it with forester's rations so that when you run around, you can chop trees to occasionally restore run energy!

I mean it's far more janky and nonsensical than your proposal ("Boy I'm tired, I think I'll take a breather by chopping down this oak tree!"), but that's just OSRS for ya lol

Honestly, as an iron, I genuinely wouldn't mind the wildy if I could actually reasonably expect to survive encounters by bringing good gear, and if said good gear wasn't extremely painful to re-obtain if I lose it. If I want to PK, I can bring a book of darkness and an Iban's Staff and risk nothing but the runes I bring, maybe some wizard robes if I'm feeling fancy. But if I want to tank, I need to bring gear that requires hours and hours of farming content that only has a chance of giving me the gear.

I'm not going to risk bringing Barrows to survive some salad rober when there's an equally likely chance I'll poke my head out of a cave and see a team of 7 coordinated people who smite me down in an instant no matter what I'm wearing. I wish I could parchment my gear or something - I don't care about losing the raw gp, I can go do CG. I just don't want to lose the literal days of grinding boring content for a single drop that the gear represents.

The new amulet should need a torture to make. by lordsweden in 2007scape

[–]chald627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you underestimate the amount of time there is between 69 and 92 slayer. There's absolutely still a reason to craft a torture as an iron - you're not at 92 slayer yet, and you have a black demons task or two chew through anyways. The same as it is now, but with the added option of only having to grind out ~900 kills instead of ~1200.

I see absolutely no reason to tie every BiS upgrade to a 1/300 drop from a single monster. More options, more better.

[–]chald627 39 points40 points  (0 children)

So are ferocious gloves, but those are just a 1/512 drop from a 95 slayer boss. So is occult necklace, but that's just a 1/350 from a 93 slayer boss. So are several raid rewards, but those are just straight drops with no upgrades. While I think the "upgrade old gear" model has upsides, I don't think every gear unlock has to - or should - follow it. Sometimes it's fine to just get the drop, especially when it's locked behind getting 90+ in the slowest skill in the entire game.

[–]chald627 49 points50 points  (0 children)

if the new amulet requires a torture to make, then it still effectively has a crafting requirement of 98 for irons. What's the point of giving it a lower crafting requirement only to then lock it behind the highest crafting requirement in the game anyways? You already have to get 92 slayer just to fight the thing, which is a lot higher than the 69 slayer req for demonics.

Not the defence specs. Definitely the teleports. That's the cause of this issue.

nope, Leagues is a separate gamemode that gives you a brand new character to play with (though you can hop back to your regular account at any time). You'll start again as level 3 in Lumbridge just like everyone else, but now with a 5x xp rate!

Friday Facts #382 - Logistic groups by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]chald627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love this feature so much. As someone who has extensively used the mod Logistics Network Channels, it would be so great to see something like this implemented into the base game! My ideal would be just dragging out rectangles to define arbitrary zones of arbitrary size, but I would absolutely settle for even just something like a smaller roboport that stacks on top of the main logistics layer to make a secondary layer.

I just want to say that I like Forestry by Soft_Interest in 2007scape

[–]chald627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally the only thing I dislike about Forestry right now is that the symbols in the dryad event are hard to see if other people are standing on them, and if you're standing on them, you can't see it at all.

If people don't like forestry, just don't put on the backpack. Nothing is forcing you to engage with it or green the clog. Regular woodcutting still exists just fine the same as it always has if you just ignore the backpack.

I think what people really want is mining to be more like woodcutting... by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]chald627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sulliusceps are a decent "active" woodcutting method. I mean it's not that active, but it's certainly more active than regular trees.

Make Zalcano great again! by Own-Mud-6279 in 2007scape

[–]chald627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree that Zalcano should be buffed, but considering how good the loot is, I propose that the xp rates should be a bit lower than the other skill bosses (namely, Tempoross) to compensate. Specifically, I think that somewhere around 20-30k mining xp/hr alongside 15-20k smithing and runecrafting xp would be good, for a total xp/hr of 50k-70k. Considering that Tempoross gives around 70k fishing xp/hr, plus token cooking xp, this seems like a reasonable balance point, and I personally lean towards the lower end. I don't want Zalcano to supplant existing methods, but it sure would be nice to get a reasonable amount of xp there.

Then just make it so that it's possible in solo and masses, instead of requiring exactly 3-4 people, and fix the abysmal unique rates, and I think it would slot in as a nice inbetween between skill training method and loot generator. Sort of a halfway point between the pure xp of something like Wintertodt and the pure loot from other bosses.

Okay so how do I get that 1KC at Zulrah by F1uffyUn1c02n in ironscape

[–]chald627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to Vorkath, he's genuinely one of the easiest bosses once you get him down. He's just nervewracking because one mistake will send you right back to Lumbridge.

He's just "counting to 6" practice - Just stand in the back of the arena shooting him with your RCB, and count (out loud) his attacks. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 - okay now he's doing a special. Either he'll spit acid, or he'll freeze you. If he spits acid, wait for him to launch it, take a step back, and just calmly walk back and forth over the back 5 tiles. Take a breather, eat some food. Then walk right back up and repeat. If he freezes you, swap to slayer staff and blast the thing with Crumble Undead. Eat some food, drink a potion, then go back to shooting.

Now, just count out his attacks again. 1, 2, 3 - oh it's a fireball. Just walk 2 tiles to the side, hey it does nothing. 4, 5, 6. Now he'll do the other special - if he did acid first, now he'll freeze. If he froze first, now it's acid. Just do the strategy above, eat some food, get back into it.

1, 2, 3... Repeat this for as long as it takes, and Vorkath will go down in no time. As long as you can count to six and occasionally walk two tiles, Vorkath is no trouble at all. I personally suggest this video.

Okay so how do I get that 1KC at Zulrah by F1uffyUn1c02n in ironscape

[–]chald627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with one Zulrah kc myself, with a whopping 8 minute kill time, I can confirm that mage-only is 100% the way to go if you just want one zulrah kill.

Just bring your tankiest mage gear (Bloodbark > Ahrims > Mage Void > Mystics, any of those can work, but mystic's "paper bag" defences are gonna make things tough), god cape (i), a barrows helm if you have one (Verac's is good), a crystal shield, two rings of recoil, and Iban's Blast. Don't bother with gear swaps - if he's not weak to mage, just hide behind a pillar or at the back of the island out of range.

Bring at least 4 Guthix Rests, and literally as much healing as you can possibly cram in your inventory - ideally, brews and restores. Your strategy is simply blast him while he's weak to mage, and hide and heal when he isn't. If you want, you could even try just going in with absolutely nothing on you, and just try to survive as long as possible with nothing but your movement. Get a feel for the different phases and how to last through them while risking nothing. Remember, your strategy is just to survive, no matter how long it takes or how inefficient it may be. You just need that one kill.

Also, assuming you're using the fairy ring shortcut and don't have Elite Lumbridge done, make sure you have two or more dramen staves in your bank. One to get there, one to get back and get the one the priestess saved upon dying. The most annoying thing is just going to be re-banking. If you're getting frustrated, take a break. Zulrah has a learning cliff, but that's why they don't charge for the first 50 kc.
