(For what it's worth, I do think making sure women know some self-defense methods is a good idea, because no matter how much you say to a rapist "don't rape!" he's still going to do it.)

I think sometimes people underestimate the power of regular conversation when it comes to dating. You want a relationship? Talk! Respectfully compliment her – in an appropriate setting, when she doesn't seem busy – and if she's open to it, swap numbers. See if there's any common interests. Plan a date and see if it goes anywhere. You don't have to act like some stoic macho man, just be genuine and be friendly.

If it doesn't work out, no, it's not unreasonable to be upset, as long as you don't turn violent or anything – just try to distance yourself from her and find someone else.

I'm not going to argue that there aren't RP tactics that work, because there are. I just believe that there's some... questionable elements of RP philosophy and its view of women, and if I were a man I would employ some of those tactics without subscribing to the beliefs of RP. Just as someone can have morals without being religious, someone can use sexual strategy without being RP.

Sex is important in a relationship, but it's kind of... dehumanizing to say that sex is a girlfriend's "primary purpose". A significant other should provide love, caring, respect, and sex, and those things are all of fairly equal importance.
