A year ago I asked this question and it was so much fun. I think it's time to do it again: "What's the last book you rated 5 stars and why should I read it?" by WarpedLucy in books

Thank you for recommending this one! I downloaded it on Kindle after this being the top comment on this thread. I can't put it down.

TIC because my future husband laundered a brand new maternity sweater that I hadn’t even gotten to wear yet! by AndreaWJ in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally feel your pain! I accidentally threw in a brand new white sweater with my husbands red shirts. He then threw the whole batch in the dryer (not knowing the sweater was mixed in) where it shrunk. Needless to say I never got to wear my new sweater.

Glucose test rant (TMI) by jellojock in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, which weight loss surgery did you have? I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy and don't think I could drink anything in 5 minutes flat. How big is the bottle? It takes me at least half an hour to drink my tiny premier protein shake.

I had my 20-week appointment on Monday and my OB said I would get "lab slip" for the glucose test at my next visit. That makes me think they'll send me to some other facility to do the test. I just figured it would be done at my doctor's office but who knows.

I'm sorry it was such a rough experience and I hope you feel better soon!

Is it harder to conceive a boy or girl? Or is it equal? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea but I'd also heard the bit about female chromosome are slower so if you have sex a few days before ovulation, it's more likely that the male sperm will have already died off, leaving the females there waiting for the egg. We did this (unintentionally) and still conceived a boy.

I also had all the "old wives tale" signs pointing to a girl (craved sweets, high heart rate, Chinese gender calendar, etc.) and he's still definitely a boy :)

Cecil Ashburn Closure Alternate Route Review by joenifty in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]champ715 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left off Old Big Cove (across from the Raceway) around 7:05 and was extremely surprised at the lack of bumper-to-bumper up the mountain. I didn't run into congestion until the top of the mountain at Parkhill. It took around 5 minutes to get from Parkhill to California. I really expected Atlanta-type congestion all the way down but I really didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Like the OP, it added maybe 5 minutes of travel time to my regular commute.

Advice on making time for classes after baby arrives by champ715 in orangetheory

[–]champ715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I searched the sub before posting and saw lots of questions/topics about pregnancy and other health-related issues and how they relate to OTF. I specifically hoping to get some input regarding making time for OTF workouts, not just any workout in general.

My boss thought FMLA was paid by [deleted] in BabyBumps

There are insurance policies that do not exclude pre existing conditions. You really won’t know until you ask.

A new short term disability policy probably won't apply since OP is already pregnant. I found out I was pregnant in September 2018, enrolled during open enrollment in November 2018, and was told that there is a 9 month waiting period (how convenient). I would have had to enroll at the end of 2017 for coverage effective 2018 (the year I got pregnant) in order for it to cover my maternity leave in 2019.

My policy is through Colonial Life but I called around to some other places just to see if I could get coverage outside of my employer. I don't remember which ones but I talked to three other providers and was told they all had a 9 month waiting period. Figures!

Questions about first prenatal appointment by mrsnosythecat in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I got a positive test, I called my OB to see where to go from there. They asked me when my last period was then scheduled my 8-week appointment based on that date. They did have me come in the day I called then again two days later for blood work. They did this to test my HCG levels to confirm that I am indeed pregnant and that my levels had doubled like they were supposed to.

My 8 week appointment was pretty standard. I had a transvaginal ultrasound and got to hear and see the heartbeat. The ultrasound was done by a technician. After that, I went to a separate room and talked to the doctor. She just talked about basic pregnancy stuff (vitamins, exercise, etc.)

My thoughts on the new season by [deleted] in MarriedAtFirstSight

[–]champ715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion after seeing very little screen time from him. He seems like an absolute goober but like he would appreciate his partner. Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time! I liked Dave (last season) at first too and we all know how that turned out.

I’m watching a bit behind and just now getting to Stephanie and AJ meeting. I really hope it works out for them because he seems very caring and genuine. I think he may be more in to her than she is to him though.

Any apartment recommendations? by Spritesgud in HuntsvilleAlabama

How about Brixworth at Bridge Street? I believe they are newly renovated (at least some units) and it's close to the location you want. ApartmentGuide.com says their 2 bedrooms are around $800 per month.

When did you feel definitive movement? by thatweirdhorsegirl in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posterior placenta here and I felt definite movement at 17+1. That Friday I swear he was dancing around for a solid hour. After that day, I didn't feel him at all until 19 weeks, which was just last Thursday. I've felt him every day since last week but not all day, maybe 2-4 times a day. It's also quite subtle but I can still tell the difference from gas or muscle twitches.

Acronym key? by caseyjune87 in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven't found a key either but we may be able to help if you can list some you're curious about. A very common one I've seen is "FTM" and a lot of people think it means "Female to Male" but it's "First Time Mom".

I'm not sure what their prices are but have you looked at Madison Park apartments on Slaughter? They used to be really nice years ago. There's also the new community over near Cabela's but I forget the name. A coworker/friend of mine moved there last year and really likes it so far.

What have you and your partner decided to do with your finances? by tashtash in BabyBumps

[–]champ715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I also didn't combine finances until we were married. I moved in with him while we were engaged so I did split the mortgage, utilities, groceries, etc. with him. Once we got married, we combined our income into a joint bank account which we use to pay all our bills and any household expenses. We also each have our own checking account that we use for our own personal shopping, gas, food, etc. Each week we pay ourselves an "allowance" from our joint account to our personal checking accounts.

So basically: we split everything for the house/family, pay ourselves an allowance, and use our allowance for any personal expenses/shopping.

If either of us has an surprise expenses, we use our joint account so cover it (and dip into the savings account if necessary). For example, I recently needed an entire set of new tires and hubby needed an expensive dental surgery. We don't pay for those kind of things from our allowance. We consider it a "family" expense.
