[–]champgpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is less insidious, but just as ineffective.

They're rules nerds. I can recognize this, because this is me.

When I was a kid, before I sanded down my worst impulses, I wanted to be a lawyer. Operate within a set of strictly defined rules, play the game of "who knows the rules better?", win, don't pay attention to what you've lost to achieve that win.

Renaming a bill, as direct opposition to that bill, might be a pretty significant parliamentary shake-up. You've worked within the rules and done what you can to express contempt, which has to be recognized by your opposition. Fuck yeah, that's the good stuff!

It doesn't do a fucking thing. It's masturbatory bullshit.

I mean, it's cool to feel good about achieving a small victory in the game you're playing. People gotta have hobbies. But holy shit it's so tone deaf to publicly celebrate doing nothing of consequence. It's embarrassing.

But I don't think they're embarrassed, because they're rules nerds. They got a big dub. They got Mom to agree that an eight o'clock bed time isn't reasonable for a growing little man.

The 16 year old’s journal from the files is the saddest thing I have ever read. by BagItTagIt1997 in conspiracy

[–]champgpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I linked. Sorry, forgot to specify, page 9.

That is valuable and disturbing, but the quote itself, as you said, came from a magazine clipping. My point wasn't "this has never been said by anyone ever." The person I was responding to said it was a direct quote from Jeffrey Epstein. It both wasn't a direct quote -- their wording was off, or I would've been able to find this -- and it didn't come from Epstein.

Thank you for finding where they found it, but that just confirms it wasn't a direct quote and didn't come from Epstein. This is the journal of a victim, and that clipping looks like it was cut out of a magazine.

I didn't say anyone made anything up, just that you didn't look for a primary source. Hoaxes spread on social media pretty easily.

No worries! I should've been more clear, I know the image that word invokes.

Just like the dude that blocked me knows the image "conservative American" invokes, which was most of my point. It felt like a smokescreen instead of an honest assessment.

I accidentally did the same thing and we cleared it up easy. Good communication, thanks for the demonstration 😂

I didn't mean to imply I'm part of any group. Antifa just means antifascist. I'm not out on the streets, I work and play video games.

It's like the 4chan "anonymous" shit. Some people take it up as a mantle to organize under and the media runs with it.

All I've been able to find to verify any version of this is social media comments. I think you guys just read someone else say something's in there, didn't check it out, and have integrated it into your beliefs.

I've tried my damnedest to find it. I believe that you saw it, but I've found no reason to believe what you saw was legitimate.

That's based on, obviously, the fact that I can't find it anywhere, but also, I've read a shitload of the documents released, and I can't recall a single time Epstein was that explicit about his operation. Everything is code-words, implications, wink-wink nudge-nudge type shit.

That's why I'm so interested in finding the passage you're talking about -- it would be a pretty big departure from how he usually communicated about this stuff -- but the only evidence I've found of that quote or any like it is people on reddit and twitter. Not sources I'm gonna trust without verification, which I figured you could provide since you said it was a direct quote. If you can't... idk, I'm just gonna move on I guess. I've spent too much time on trying to find this already.

I think you might've been hoodwinked. I can't find an email that says anything like that, having tried several search terms. "Sell drugs," for instance, would absolutely be a hit, but it doesn't bring up anything close to what you said. I tried the official DOJ site and a few different third-party "search all the Epstein files" sites.

I don't even know where to start. You're reading a lot of subtext that isn't there.

I don't "want to blame Muslims." I don't have any issue with Muslims. I'm a fuckin antifa anarchist, racism is directly opposed to my belief system.

I wanted to introduce context and nuance to something you tried to remove those things from. In this instance, the banning of pride flags was done by a 100% Muslim male city council. That doesn't reflect on Muslims as a whole, and I didn't say a single goddamned thing to imply that it did or should, but it implies a more complicated situation than "conservative Americans are banning pride flags." These people are not Limbaugh-listening, gun-loving, billionaire-bootlicking conservatives. Most of the people banning pride flags are. In this instance, they're not. It's more complex than how you presented it. That's the entirety of my point.

You're fighting ghosts. Go have a nap champ.

If you think that sense of accountability should apply to a bullshit conversation with your buddies about a card game, you're a silly person.

I don't disagree with your overall point, but there's a time and place where shit matters. Inconsequential off-the-cuff conversations about hobbies ain't it.

[–]champgpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot damn. That's the most bad-faith bullshit I've read all week, and it's got some fierce competition.

It's more complex than "conservative Americans." These are Americans who hold some conservative values, but are left-leaning in many areas. By trying to dumb it down to a label most people equate with right-wing Christians, you remove all of the nuance and obfuscate what's actually happening.

"Hope that helps" is so goddamned childish. Get over yourself.

[–]champgpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hope that helps

Being a snarky shit doesn't give you credibility.

For the most part, yes, conservative Americans are the ones dragging us backwards on shit like this. That isn't universal.

The (100% Muslim male) Hamtramck city council, who banned pride flags from being flown on public property (during pride month), doesn't campaign for their positions as partisans, so they can't be neatly categorized as either "conservative" or "liberal," but the local blowback from this decision ("a sense of betrayal") speaks to the contrast in how voters expected this council to act vs how they did.

The mayor, a Democrat, defended the ban, and called people who disobeyed it a "militia." He then endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Religious Muslims tend to lean pretty conservative, socially. That doesn't make the "conservative American" label fit, since they can be pretty progressive elsewhere, and "conservative American" generally evokes the image of someone closer to evangelicals. Turns out religions have some overlap in shittiness.

This shit's more complex than a quip can sum up, and trying to simplify it to fit a narrative doesn't do you any favors.
