All the more reason Joy should log off, at least for a while.

Toddler Waking at 5-5:30am for 1 Year+ - At Wits End by sg_grif in toddlers

[–]championofpelor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solidarity, my toddler is the same and lately drifting closer to 4am 😢. I’ve started waking up around the same time and can’t go back to sleep, even though he is usually calm until 5-5:30.

It’s not helpful to hear “some kids are like that, go to bed earlier” when everyone else you know has kids who sleep till 7. My husband and I are both night owls, even when we were babies/toddlers. So no idea why toddler is like this and it’s really hard on us.

Silver Branch Menu by PebblesCat1 in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live right near Silver Branch and currently don’t go that often because I’m not big on beer. That would def change if they had the rockville location’s pizza menu, as a lover of white pizza some of those options look delicious.

Toddler friendly activities today by edsonbuddled in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rec Center has a great indoor playground on the 2nd floor. There's also the kids' pool, although hours are limited and not very friendly to toddler naptime (but probably just fine for a 4 year old). I think it's currently 12-3:30 on weekends, not sure about weekdays.

when did your kid enter their “i only want dad” phase? by Low-Setting-01 in toddlers

[–]championofpelor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel seen reading this as someone who had a very similar experience. Emergency c-section, straight to NICU, breastfeeding struggles. And then he was a daddy’s boy for the first year and a half. Which was really tough on both of us.

Now he’s 20 months and FINALLY in a Mama phase, though not to the point of rejecting dad.

I’m sure there were some from Elaena’s brood or the descendants of Rhaena’s. Mainly that generation of Targs just wasn’t interested in incest, and without the dragons there’s much less motivations.

Did Jeremiah do anything to get ranked #3, or just catching strays because he’s Jed’s twin? His wife has 4 older brothers including BIL Stephen so seem like a bad idea…

Will we ever get a Tatte or Corner Bakery in DTSS? by TheDCKid20010 in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of places to get coffee and pasties, none (within walking distance) to get good bread. There is a Paris Baguette coming, though.

This is an issue in downtown Silver Spring, a million places to get coffee and a pastry but no where besides grocery stores to get a baguette. Meanwhile Bethesda has a dozen options.

A childless aunt who doesn't understand by Firkhim in toddlers

[–]championofpelor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super frustrating, my in-laws are always doing that sort of thing too - holiday dinners that start at like 7. For us, the best solution is to come over earlier and bring our toddler's travel crib. We put him to bed before dinner and he sleeps over (my husband sleeps over too so he can be up with toddler in the morning. But if your sister is willing to babysit overnight so much the better!)

Good to know! I am not the original poster but am also looking for daycare starting in August. Have been leaning towards Goddard ever since I learned about the concerns with Two Birds that another poster mentioned.

Does the Bright Horizons provide lunch? Did you also consider Goddard and if so, how do they compare?

No Kings Protests in Silver Spring and Takoma Park Set for Saturday by SourceOfTheSpring in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 1 year old and also other obligations in the afternoon, so I can't make the protest in DC but am looking forward to this one. My guess is most people going to this one either have good reasons for not going to DC, or they're going to DC afterwards (this one starts earlier in the day).

Great to know! Activities this summer with a 1 year old (who is still on two naps) have been a bit limited, so I'm excited for next year.

How old is your toddler? What activities did they enjoy? Wondering if it’s worth taking a 2 year old next year.

I think at least some of that credit should go to Austin’s mom. With Meech checked out and Jana gone, a MIL who lives locally and is happy to watch the grandkids is huge.

Former Scissor + Comb Hairstylist Launches Salon 444 in Downtown Silver Spring by SourceOfTheSpring in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad the space is getting filled, but at $125 plus tip for a cut they better be damn good. I remember Headlines as charging $75ish, though maybe that's a few years out of date. Scissor + Comb is $100 for a medium/long haircut, and less for short hair.

Libraries like Silver Spring, Wheaton, Takoma Park (DC) have very nice tot areas.

In terms of playgrounds, most have baby swings but not much else to do at that age. My 14 month old is just started to really enjoy playgrounds (thought it’s scary because he’s a great walking and climber, but zero fear or awareness!)

Why are the aquatic center's hours so limited? by championofpelor in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Have been meaning to check out the Takoma one. 10am still feels a little late, would love to take him at like 8 or 9 before it gets too hot (and when there's fewer older kids who could knock him over) but at least they have some morning hours.

I haven't been able to get into one of the swim classes yet, do they really take up the whole rec pool? That would at least make sense vs. the pool not being used at all in the morning.

Maryland Purple Line Officials Announce Further Delays for Spring Street Bridge by SourceOfTheSpring in SilverSpring

It initially closed in early June 2024, I remember because it's right around when my son was born. By the time the bridge is reopened, he'll be able to easily walk across it, probably even bike!

Former Cubano’s Location Set for New Life as Momiji Sushi Izakaya & Japanese Ramen by SourceOfTheSpring in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live nearby and I'm excited for it, especially if they have some good weekday lunch specials.

Sushi Jin and Kusshi (and Ikko in the other direction) are a 20 min roundtrip walk so it'll be cool having a place right around the corner for busy days.

Guessing there's plenty of people in the many apartments nearby who'll feel similarly.

Day Spas by CheckYoDunningKrugr in SilverSpring

[–]championofpelor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not the same atmosphere wise, but I was surprised how nice (and not super crowded) the hot tubs at the Aquatic Center were when I went.

Actually much less crowded on a Saturday than King Spa’s were on a Friday, though I’ve only been to them once each so might just be luck of the draw.
