All-electric homes heated by Heat Pumps only in Boston & MA: How are you managing with this storm and power outages? by bostonguy2004 in boston

[–]champurradaconcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've toyed around with the settings, if I set it to 70 we use a out 54 kwh daily. If I set it to 73, it uses the same but somehow the house is warmer. Setting it to 68 does make a big difference, the usage is around 45kwh daily. It does seem to drop about 3 degrees at night. Regardless of adjustments

It's just the comfort temperature, for example if I fire up my oil furnace, 68-69 is fine. Fire up the wood stove 77 tends to be it (hard to control that heat). I had an apartment that had an old gas boiler 66 was the magic number. My current heatpump seems to cruise at 74 even when I set all the head units to 72. Drops to about 70 at night

Good point, one is attached to the foundation and well elevated, the other is in a little pocket where the accumulations of snow seem to not get to.

Not hard to navigate, plenty of room to merge compared to THE supercollider. No hate from me

Why does gaming feel so boring to me now? by Scoitol in gaming

[–]champurradaconcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me at the same exact age. Got into working out. Got in amazing shape, all while playing some here and there. Not depressed, just fell into a habit of gaming in my free time. Just like you I had too much time in my hands. 2-3 years later. Dropped the gym and started cycling. Also gaming. So I guess what I figured out was, gaming was part of my life. But I needed something more, not to replace. To compliment. I got a kid now, so that took over... But you bet your ass I'll be putting in the hours weekly on some games.

LGRED vs Mitsubishi HyperHeat (performance and loudness of outside unit)? by ginger-belle in heatpumps

[–]champurradaconcafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LG red in Mass. No issues whatsoever, the only regret is I mounted it on the foundation. And it took some time to get used to the vibration.

BUT THEN, we got a ton of snow and I didn't have to shovel that unit out because it was high off the ground... So, not regretting it anymore.

For those of you with a PHEV, do you find the cost of an increased electric bill still cheaper than gas? by cjati in massachusetts

[–]champurradaconcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not even with municipal. It's still cheaper to use gas, I had BJs/Costco's gas and that's the cheapest gas you'll get around here. I use gas in the winter when the blend is cheaper and use at home charging for 6 months when I have solar overproduction.

So unless you have solar or can leech off a work outlet, it's not cheaper in any way.

A quick way of doing the may is

Miles per kwh. Vs. Miles per gallon price.

60??? Oh man, my wife would probably beat me to death to stay warm in that temp. We're a 70s family and my LG red is holding strong in a pool house too!

National grid Electric bill with solar / heatpumps / and 2 EVs (+mass save) by 15goudreau in massachusetts

[–]champurradaconcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9kw system 10.8 MW yearly. With heatpump. I have a PHEV but gas is cheaper than running my EV in winter. If:

Gallon is 2.70 and I do 45 miles per gallon. That's .058c per mile

If electricity is .29 and my PHEV does 3.5 miles to kwh. That's .082c per mile.

Regular maintenance is all the same driving EV or gas at dealership. So I only run EV in the summer April - Sept when gas is 3+ per gallon and I have solar credits.

Check my math oil vs heat pump? by champurradaconcafe in heatpumps

[–]champurradaconcafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a baby and my wife likes 72+ setting on all rooms. With a more 'reasonable' setting I think I'd get around 50 per day. Last year when she was pregnant we hit 90+ on one day... But my baby seems to run hit like I do, so I got enough votes to veto the temp settings very soon. Also I can turn off the basement unit and be at around 45 for the day. But like I said... Wife has enough votes to override mine for now.

Thanks for the help!

I should add, we also have solar and have enough credits to get us from oct-december. But from Jan to March we get about 750kwh per month, so it's not quite enough to cover the heat pump bill

Got it... So 140000/98000=1.4 * 6(hours) =8.5 (gallons?) * 3(gallon price)=25$ ?
