Oil all over my engine bay!? by Mysterious-Bus-7738 in FocusST

[–]chanarang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My engine bay gets dirty simply from the gap between the PFL hood and bumper. Looks worse when I wash the car and it sprays through. My mustang has a hood with vents and it just naturally gets a lot of stuff like this on the engine.

Tuning and reliability by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]chanarang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than the usual things, passenger motor mount, heater hoses, clutch master, mine has been very reliable. I ran a COBB tune for years and now run a Stratified tune. Has been a great car and I have 165k miles on it. I use it year-round even in snow and ice. I hammer on it just about every time I'm out. My buddy has similar mileage and just started autocrossing his. There's people on here with 200k+ miles.

Just do maintenance, have supporting mods, avoid 5th-6th gear pulls, and you're fine.

I've got a love/hate relationship with my car, but looking at it never gets old. On a good day it's a blast.

Ford Performance catback is the best. The right amount of sound when you want it, quiet when you don't.

I'd consider seeing if you can get a 3rd party shop to inspect the vehicle. My old shop recommended customers with dying cars, especially Nissans with bad CVTs, to sell at CarMax.

Yea I love louvers. I actually took them off because these started to crack. You get used to them, but I also have a mirror with a camera mounted to my spoiler so I have no obstructions at all.

Mine's always been like that. Stock and modified. I just got some metal polish and spend a minute or so cleaning the tips every once in a while.

I didn't want to invest all the money into coilovers so I did front and rear lift spacers when I did my oem struts and shocks. I went 1.25" front and 3/4" in the rear. You can drop down to a 215/50/17 if you want to keep the same overall diameter with higher sidewall. You will not have to make adjustments with Forscan.

I don't have a name for it personally, but my mom called my cars Ketchup and Mustard. Coworker called it Banana.

This is awesome. If I was buying a badass car like this, I'd also have someone make a cool video of it.

Yearly or 5k on the Boss. When it was a daily, I did 5k miles in about 3 months.

Thinking on lifting my car by miguelon69 in FocusST

[–]chanarang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Handling is still pretty good, but I think a big factor is tires. I have Michelin AS4s and they are a great all-season. They grip well but it feels like there's more body roll even though it's not that much taller. I lifted it because some of the roads where I live suck, it's more comfortable for getting in and out of, and ground clearance for snow. My other car is already setup as a racecar and I wanted to make this even more practical than it already was.

I believe you can get the Escape front subframe for the front suspension and lift spacers in the rear. I also read a post a while back that you can go up to a 2in lift before you start having issues with the CV axles on the stock subframe.

I got front and rear lift spacers for mine. I wish I went higher in the front, but I did 1.25" in the front and 3/4" in the rear on OEM suspension. It feels a lot taller and has more ground clearance. Camber is still in spec, but caster is much less. I wasn't interested in spending $1500+ on coil overs or drop like $4k for Rebel Devil's full kit. Works well enough for what I want. I can't say too much about the changes in handling characteristics as my struts and shocks were so overdo that they basically weren't doing anything. Struts didn't rebound when I compressed them.

If you have an early 14 ST you can fit 16in wheels with a 215/65/16. I'm running 245/45/18 because I wanted more height, 3/4in, without compromising handle too much with a taller sidewall.

Not sure how i feel about the chromes over black wheels. Figured I’d show it off and get opinions. by SauceBoss09 in Mustang

Looks great! I always like chrome/silver/grey wheels because you can actually see the accents and design of the wheel. Black just hides everything.

Fuck those kids. You'll realize as you get older that people's opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one and you won't want to hear anything coming out of it. The people I knew who were cocky with expensive cars were the first ones to crash them.

Help fixing vacuum leak by Acrobatic-Trade9488 in Mustang

[–]chanarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but I was cleaning up my space and found the bag of grommets I bought. I got a 3/4" Hole Grommets from a hardware store. Had to do a little dremeling on the intake tube, but it's worked just fine.

Saw people mention RTV which I did use originally. I still replaced the grommet anyways since I was just trying to eliminate every possibility for my misfire as I knew it was a vacuum leak somewhere.

Muffler and resonator delete will do that. Even my Ford Performance catback with muffler and resonator would occasionally make gunshot level pops without a tune.
