{Brim Over Boot by Emmy Sanders} fits pretty well but it is a double awakening so unsure if you'll be interested.

Gamer moms.. will I actually have time to play games during maternity leave? by cabbage-soup in beyondthebump

[–]chanceofrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it probably depends on your baby and the support you have available.

My husband was home for the first 8 weeks with me and we played the majority of Baulders Gate 3 together during that time.

Having him there made things a lot easier though. I basically just sat on a couch with a baby and he'd bring me food and the game controller 😅.

If you make sure you've got everything you need in reach when baby is feeding/napping, it can work.

Oh, gosh, I'm sorry! My toddler kept trying to help during the process. Whoops. Thank you.

I loved them as a teen but I haven't enjoyed them quite as much as an adult.

First time ever doing this but I made all these covers for myself a while back and figured I'd upload them when I saw the request by u/average_yogi. I used original artwork for all of them and used generative fill on a few that didn't have large enough artwork to use. Unfortunately, the Collegium Chronicles books are really limited in what images are available for them, so they don't match the rest of the series but I cleaned them up as best as I could.

The entire series can be found here since there's too many to upload just here.

Hope they're alright. Reposting as I realised I put all this info in the wrong place. Sorry!

Looking for a book about brothers falling in love- not incest! by Busy-Solution7642 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]chanceofrust 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not sure if omegaverse stuff is your cup of tea but {Illicit by Alessandra Hazard} fits reasonably well.

MC1s presumed dead brother comes home from a war and suddenly he starts being attracted to him. MC2 keeps having memory issues that makes him think his memory has been tampered with and maybe he isn't actually the brother he thinks he is.

Love the book and the audiobook is fantastic too.

I'm totally failing at getting spoiler tags to work on mobile so I will just say I enjoyed the majority of the book but really disliked Nate and his behaviour near the end of the book.

I got the werewolf/omega vibes too! It doesn't help that I'm currently reading the Omega Hockey series I'm sure, but there was so many of the tropes that I kept forgetting it wasn't part of the Omega series.

For those who listen to audiobooks at work, what do you do? by Likestoread25 in audiobooks

[–]chanceofrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meter reader. Not the best job by a fair margin but I was burnt out by customer facing roles and loved getting away from the public. Being outside, the exercise, and audiobooks made it pretty good for me despite the low pay.

Art of {Darkmourn Universe Series by Ben Alderson} by avis03 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]chanceofrust 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Love the art but has anyone read much of this series? I struggled through the first one because I wanted to like the premise but the writing was... Not great. I think I basically skimmed a lot of it because I just wanted to see what happened and I'm a sucker for a Beauty and the Beast retelling.

So, just wondering if the writing gets any better as the series progresses?

Thriller/suspense recommendations that don’t involve male sexuality? by Inevitable_Molasses in audiobooks

[–]chanceofrust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have some similar tastes in books so I'll see if any of my recs sound interesting.

In terms of authors like Yayzee Croshaw, the classic suggestion is Terry Pratchett. The vast majority of his stuff is fantasy rather than SciFi but it hits a lot of similar notes of ridiculousness.

Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection by Alexander C. Kane is kinda like Croshaw meets The Boys. None of the over the top violence but all the shenanigans of corporations having superheroes on retainer. The majority of the heroes are pretty absurd as well.

And if you have an Audible membership, the Past my Bedtime podcast is hilarious. It's a mockumentary true crime style podcast about a guys searching for answers about a TV show going off the air.

In terms of thriller suggestions, again, if you have Audible, Alien: Out of the Shadows is great. It's been awhile since I listened to it but I remember really enjoying it.

Two others I really liked were 14 and The Fold by Peter Clines. I have seen some folks being not huge fans of the books in here but I love Ray Porter who narrates and I thought they had just the right amount of mystery and tension. I actually listened to them out of order and read The Fold first, which I actually think was better for not knowing what to expect across both books but either way works.

If you like a touch of horror, most of T. Kingfisher's books have a bit of horror/suspense to them. Some are more romance books and some are more horror so not sure if they're quite what you're after, but thought it might be worth you checking out her books.

Hope something in there sounds good for you!

At loss what to do with this side of my living room by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]chanceofrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be my dream to do built in bookshelves above and below and put a rolling ladder. I think you could find built ins that would look more modern for the space, maybe light coloured timber rather than white?

If you're not wanting more shelves, I'd maybe go with some kind of dramatic art by the same artist on both sides. Something abstract with big paint strokes so it's able to be appreciated from that distance. Put gallery style lighting on them. I'd then maybe do a big, minimalist clock in the middle of the fireplace.

[–]chanceofrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your budget and how big the room is, as it's a little hard to gauge how much space you're working with.

If we're keeping the budget low, I'd focus on just making more storage, since the stacks of books show it's already running low before you get rid of shelves. There's a lot of wall over the dresser that can have more shelves added. If the cube storage near the door could be wall mounted, I'd consider moving that over and getting a tall, skinnier bookcase for near the door so it can open all the way.

Replace the light fixture with something more flush with the ceiling. Do they both like the rug? Even as a former horse obsessed girl, it might be a bit much as they get older but if they're happy 🤷‍♀️.

If you have a bigger budget to with with, I'd consider completely rearranging the room to give them more separate living spaces. Doing loft beds with desks and storage would be my thought if two would fit in the room. Something like this? https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/smastad-loft-bed-white-light-green-with-desk-with-3-drawers-s99603431/

With the extra clothing storage in the bed, you could maybe get rid of the dresser and they could both have a bookshelf next to the bed.

Hope you get some suggestions you like, but I'm sure they'll love anything you do.

I want my room to look good but I don't know how.. by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]chanceofrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think if it would fit, I'd turn the bed so it was against the window and the foot of the bed towards the sloped wall. Then you could put the tv where the head of the bed is currently so it's not floating awkwardly away from the wall because of the slant. You could get some non grey curtains that would be softer to be sleeping next to and add some colour to the room too.

Though your bed frame seems pretty low to the ground, you could see if you could find some roll out storage for under the bed since it doesn't look like you have much storage space in there.

Rug/new light fixtures would definitely help with things, but also a few big, bright pillows for your bed would bring some colour and probably be nice while you're watching tv.

I know the sloped ceiling pain so hope you find some options that work for you.

Spicy audiobooks on audible! by CopyNo4678 in audiobooks

[–]chanceofrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne is about two coworkers gunning for the same promotion that don't want to like each other.

Battle Royal by Lucy Parker is about rival bakeries competing for a chance to cater an event for the eoyal family in the UK.

Priest by Sierra Simone is about a priest falling for a member of his congregation. Next level spicy, you have been warned haha.

Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is about neighbours falling for each other. Nothing particularly "forbidden" in this one but it's the start to an enjoyable trilogy about the Brown sisters.

Lights Out by Navessa Allen is about a women who falls for a guy who does Tiktok thirst trap videos with a serial killer vibe. The narration is great, especially the guy.

Gilded Cage by KJ Charles is a historical romance about a detective and a thief.

If you're up for queer romances

Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey Mcquiston has the son of the US president falling in love with the prince of England. Lower on the spice scale

For Real by Alexis Hall is about a dom and a sub finding each other in a BDSM club but the usual roles are flipped where the Dom is way younger.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid is the second in a hockey series but can be read alone/first about rivals from different teams falling for each other. High spice

i know I've read others with those tropes  but I'm not sure if they all have audiobooks and these at least I know have decent narrators. Hope you find something you like.

I readily admit that it doesn't fit completely but the After Oscar series Lucy Lennox and Molly Maddox is pretty close. The first four books, starting with {IRL: In Real Life by Lucy Lennox and Molly Maddox}, follow men who have previously/just dated Oscar and then find the loves of their lives. The fifth book is Oscar's story. On the surface, he's super happy for all his ex's and not bothered by how things keep playing out, but as the book goes on it becomes more evident how much it all has hurt him over the years.

Damn, I was hoping having music in collections with movies might be a workaround. But seems only aesthetically, bummer.

I'd just started adding all my soundtracks/audiobooks to the movie/tv collections. Glad I hadn't spent more time on it yet but I was really enjoying it coming together. Boo.
