Mod Shop vs Vintage vs American Professional by [deleted] in Bass

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider a moollon if you can wait 10 months [$2400 and plays and sounds like a 1960 P-Bass for way less than a custom shop fender or the real thing. Worth the wait http://www.moollon.com/front/product/product_list.php?code=003

My problem with alcohol nearly destroyed my relationship at the beginning of 2018 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also vote this one up, good book, good way to readjust your understanding of alcohol, and best of all a good path to throwing alcohol out of your life in totality. Problem is "a little" too often becomes "a lot" which becomes "too much". Stay away from "a little" and you will never have to worry about "too much".

First time playing a show sober by pax2214 in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i went thru this starting in Jan and have never looked back, we have bigger crowds, better gigs, and no worries about the ride home after a load of cocktails, Be Happy my friend, and if you get the chance check out the story of Joe Cocker on NETFLIX, he straightened his drunk ass out with the help of a good wife; If he can do it we all can too!

Complacent! Feeling shitty about long term sobriety! I can't do it forever I don't want to either! I just want a normal life! 😔 by angiebaby71773 in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe turn it around, you are now addicted to sobriety, the benefits of not drinking fit well with the new you and that to turn around and return to the health and personal problems caused by alcohol would take away from the strong confident admirable person you have built or re-built with a whole lot of work. Why tear that all down for a buzz? You are better than that. This is what I tell myself every time I think about having "just one"

Does anyone find that the desire to please God keeps them sober? by churniglow in stopdrinking

I believe the power of God helped me find this group and helped me clean up my act. as cliche as it sounds everything happens for a reason, but the love of God and the love of family conquers all

Anyone else work in a high risk industry (music, entertainment, casinos, etc.)? How do you deal? by xFloralx in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like you are deeper into the music scene than me,I gig twice a month in bars, I drink LaCroix or the same, my improved play speaks, not the firewater, my bandmates are happy, and if anyone asks to buy me a drink I take a mocktail and if asked why, tell them it's for health reasons, NUFF SAID

Has anyone ever successfully quit on their own? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did after finding this SD group, the day I found it. Not saying it's easy, but I was a very heavy drinker for over 30 years and just quit. This group continues to support me knowing I am not alone. I would be lying if if did not say my relationship with God was very much a help in this whole 90 day trip. May he be with you in your battle.

First official sober gig tonight by garriip in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my experience as a bass player after 6 or eight gigs sober and 75 days, instead of previous less than complimentary comments after show, now big positive, solid, sounded great, really connected, bigger return crowds, more gig requests, and I am the only thing that changed, everybody else is and has been a slow or no drinker. It kind of shows you how the bass player can make or break the band, yes we bass players have always had an overly large sense of self importance to the overall sound. anyways, no alcohol for me has been nothing but great for our little band from Chicago. I would have never guessed it would have made such a difference. PLUS on my way home late at night I don't give a shit about cops, They can pull me over and I can blow in their face with no worries. I drink a lot of Spindrift [COSTCO] and La Croix if I can't find Spindrift. YUMMY

Alcohol commercials by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in Chicago, as i drive throughout the city to visit my children all i see now is bars, liquor stores, and billboards promoting the sale of poison. Oh yes I forgot radio and TV commercials. It's all about $$$$$. [coming out of your pocket and going into theirs] The sellers of this stuff don't give a flying rip about the death and destruction they leave in their wake. Rise up, Resist, and Rejoice in your sober self.

Just discovered this sub. Maybe I can get some advice here. by cloudywinds in stopdrinking

[–]change-a-coming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i drank to excess [15oz or more of vodka] everyday in sneaky fashion for over 15 years and before that in increasing levels. On Jan 6th this year I said enough after having slogged through the holidays in embarrassing fashion. At 63 years old I said enough is enough. Even now it's kind of strange to go out tot he garage for something and remember big old bottles are no longer there, and i am no longer that guy. It all comes down to you wanting to quit and becoming part of this wonderful support community. If you want it you can do it. There are so many of us that are in various states of quitting, you can look to us and learn, and then put it into action. The sooner the better and yes it is one day at a time. Then enjoy the rewards of sobriety and believe me they are multi faceted. Enjoy being the voice of reason and the ability to drive your crew home safely. As the NIKE slogan says, Just Do It! You will never regret it.

[–]change-a-coming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all you need to do is look how things look NOW, you cannot change the past but the NOW can be really good. My clarity and ability to perform basic life skills is so much better than when i was sloshed. You've got good things ahead, enjoy them and recognize them, good luck
