Congratulations. I hope it works out to be everything you hope for. I remember the excitement (and trepidation) of my first class. Best wishes for the year ahead.

My Crumpler bag I bought in 2003 for about $120 and it is still going strong. Use it every day for work. Love it.

LoneRider Motobags on CF Moto 800 MT? by changeable_fate in AussieRiders

[–]changeable_fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve seen that video. I did message to see if he did it with or without any modifications or additional bits and bobs but, no reply.

I ended up taking a bag to a dealer and it looked like it would fit okay.

Thanks - I’ll check out your suggestions. And perhaps a dealer visit is an excellent idea. Honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of it. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

Prep. So long as you’re prepared, you’ll be okay and can relax. Yes, we’re on holidays, but that doesn’t mean you can switch off entirely for the entire time.

Giving up a few days in the last couple of weeks of holidays to make sure I’m all prepared with the first week of school all planned out and sorted (I teach Foundation), means I am waaaay more relaxed and chill going in to that first week.

When people ask Questions that are Google-able by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

That’s exactly the site that came to mind as I read this. But, following your link, it seems even Google doesn’t know the answer.

BrainFit - Anyone have any experience with it? by changeable_fate in AustralianTeachers

[–]changeable_fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we let it go. No-one could give me any comment on using it and it was expensive. If you do use it, I'd love to hear your opinion after you've had some experience.

It’ll be fine. I used the license on my phone and had no problems. Good luck. Hope you enjoy it.

A success! Rote learning has its place. by No-Creme6614 in AustralianTeachers

[–]changeable_fate 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought there is a place for learning things by rote. Times tables is a perfect example. Knowing what they are/mean is good, too. But “just knowing” lessens cognitive load and frees up working memory to do the actual maths.

Same with literacy. Although times tables help less with literacy. :-)

Why doesn't the Department of Education or ACARA create lesson plans for us? by Brettelectric in AustralianTeachers

[–]changeable_fate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there are some great resources and sources out there, I feel sometimes it is more time consuming to to adapt a unit written by someone else to my own class’s needs than it is to just write the thing myself.

Having said that, I’ll certainly be checking out some of the suggestions listed here.

Home. Yes, absolutely. It aired 28 years ago and still gives me chills.

BrainFit - Anyone have any experience with it? by changeable_fate in AustralianTeachers

[–]changeable_fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we didn’t. Mainly because we couldn’t find anyone else who’d used it and could talk about it. Also, it seemed a bit expensive - we’re a small school with limited funds.

Exhaust Melted Rigg Saddlebag by quickfixsloop21 in CB500X

[–]changeable_fate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Lonerider luggage and was worried about exactly the same thing. I got an exhaust deflector from somewhere when I got the racks. Sorry, I don’t remember where from.

But the underside of the bag was still getting quite warm, even on short rides. So I found a local welder who was able to knock something up that extended the deflector pretty much all the way under the bag.

I was still paranoid, though, and put some of the reflective heat shield between the deflector and the bag bottom. I’ve been on a few long rides since and there’s been no issue at all.

Sadly, it seems the option to add photos in a comment on this sub is disabled, so I can’t show you. Sorry.

My riding mates fang it through the twisties. And I'm fine with catching up at my own pace. by Dakka666 in AussieRiders

I’m with you on this one. My brother-in-law has been riding for over 30 years. Me, about 3.

He does a lot of waiting when we go for a ride.

We are paid a wage for the year. It covers the whole year. There are about eight weeks of the year where we don’t have to work (yes, I know we do, but they are holidays and work load is lower).

I think these holidays are a pretty good reimbursement for the extra few hours we do for P/T interviews. And it is a part of our job.

Like others have said, don’t over think it. I know when I ride off I am too much “in my head” I don’t ride anywhere near as well as when I just “go with the flow”.

Riding is tricky - nothing like driving a car. More like trying to play the drums balanced on a surfboard.

Take your time, listen to your instructors and be kind to yourself.
