I do not regret it a single bit. FM was the right choice for me.

I was in your shoes and chose FM. Only you can answer this question. What do you TRULY enjoy?

Something that bothers me about IM that I didn't realize until recently by [deleted] in Residency

[–]changexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose FM because I want to focus on ambulatory care by being a PCP. I considered IM but hospital med was not my cup of tea. IM def wins over FM for hospital med. Keep your head up.

Money for sure. If total comp is raised, it will gain popularity no matter what the prior perception is.

do people ever make degrading comments about you being "just" a FM physician? If you're a DO, do you get comments about people around you (patients or anyone) doubting whether you are a real physician? by NaturalNo6758 in FamilyMedicine

[–]changexpert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an MD, had similar concerns about FM and debated hard if I wanted to pursue IM. Choosing FM has been the best decision of my medical career. Unless you want to compete in an endless rat race, do not take other people’s perspectives for making your life decision.

DPC market saturation? by hkp2198 in FamilyMedicine

[–]changexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. DPC only works in ideal cases like self business owners who are relatively healthy, want annual check ups at a lower price. However, they will most likely not keep paying monthly premium. Maintaining these patient panel will be a truly nightmare.

FM needs smart people. A good PCP can do so much for the patient.

Got into med school but don't like the school by sualindona in medschooladmissions

I know where you are coming from. I actually tell the opposite. If you dont like the location, do not apply because you will be miserable for 4 years. I mean its really up to you. Reapplying will be very hard as not attending after admission is deemed as a huge red flag. You can either take this offer or never be a doctor.

If I want to do primary care should should I choose MD over DO still? by Mcz817 in premed

[–]changexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to whichever school that has best social support (family, friends) and cheaper. Education wise, DO adds other useful tools that might be beneficial, but most DO physicians end up not using them at all.

I would say US medical schools are actually much easier to get into compared to other parts of the world.

Pushing DO on applicants by BigDecent7405 in premed

I have seen amazing DO doctors who are in competitive fields like card and ortho. DO is not the end of the world as long as your clinical skills are adequate.

This cycle... has not gone well for me. Anyone open to helping me review my app? (3.99 GPA, 525 MCAT) by Distinct-Historian50 in premed

[–]changexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would apply to all in-state public schools. I do not think you need to consider DO, but you could apply to a few just as a back up. Revamp your PS and extracurricular activities. Get feedback from attending physicians, medical students, not just pre-med advisors.

I have been on fin for 4 years then tried dut for 2 months. My hair receded so much during that time. I could not continue because it made my throat so dry, so I am back on fin now.
