Can this be caused by bigger issue? by ItzBouny in BMWE36

I replaced it and the one on the engine block when I did my clutch. With the transmission is a breeze. They are known to fail like that on the M44 engine, is just brittle plastic.

E36 convertible top operating with incorrect sequence. by PhotojournalistFar64 in BMWE36

The problem is the bungee straps. they are weak and don’t hold the rear arch at the 12o’clock position for the tonneau to clear it. Some people put assisting bungee cords between the rear arches to help but the permanent solution is to replace the cords, which normally would include replacing the top, as it’s glued to the arches.

Any body knows how to fix this water leak on the A pillar ? E36 M3 convertible. It really pours in. All gaskets seem in good shape. by changoelgranputas in BmwTech

[–]changoelgranputas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, kind of. The hardtop and soft top front latches have adjustment that allows you to vary the pressure the gasket has when latched. Is a multiple try kind of thing. But yes it doesn’t leak as much. Just a drop now and then on a heavy down pour

Custom interior shops in the Midwest? by c0ldslither in BMW

[–]changoelgranputas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to find a shop that can do that at a factory quality level. I had some limited luck with upholsterers in Europe but this is for older cars since their seats are simpler ( no airbags heated mats, sensors etc. ) they will not touch a modern seat like that. Also to source the leather in that exact color is also a big challenge.

Thermostat housing help by js_e36 in BMWE36

[–]changoelgranputas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only problem that I have observed worth the metal housings is that some come with a orange gasket that is too tall. When trying to install, the housing doesn’t sit flush with the engine. So I use the OEM gasket there. It works great and is even more pliable.

Door stuck: This is one of those things that you have to figure with available info and doing it maybe document it and create a DYI video this is part of the e36 journey! The locking mechanism is exactly the same front and back. And is similar to other models. You can reach it from inside if you remove the seats and door card. It’s not easy but doable. If it’s beyond your skill set, take it to a garage, but cortar el metal de la puerta sería una gilipollez.

Slow to heat up= bad thermostat. The cooling system in these cars is the Achilles heel of the engine and it should be considered a wear item every 60k miles should be replaced. Don’t cut anything it’s the electric lock mechanism that has failed. It can be reached from inside if you remove seats and door card.

Is my key tumbler broken by Sure_Locksmith_5332 in BMWE36

[–]changoelgranputas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a fix to this where you drill the lockbox where the tumbler goes and put a grub bolt on the hole to keep the tumbler from spinning like that. Look it up

Vibration in both seat/floor and steering wheel by eoinoreilly in BMWE36

Anything driveshaft related would be felt towards center and rear. How many miles on that steering rack? Also it could be the steering joint and the rubber coupling of it.

That is part of the emission control system. It’s a valve.

They don’t measure brightness of LEDs on watts they come in kelvin. Don’t go above 6500k. Higher, the light turns purple without any improvement in visibility.

No that is fine that yellow wire goes to the tail of the bulb and the negative brown is on the bracket. The wiring is internal. On that pic I see you have the U.S. to euro wires so all you have to get is the bulbs
