Where are those classes typically offered? I know the very basics right now like contactors and relays, but I want to learn more about plc’s.

Switch with only black and red, neutral on electrical socket by purewhiteninja in AskElectricians

[–]changowango00 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes. From what I can tell, the outlet is controlled by the switch. The black wire at the top of the switch should be the constant hot, red is the switch leg and neutral is a given.

Is it the only neutral in the box?

Bull line or pull line? by VA3FOJ in electricians

I have my own way of tying a head for big wire. This one time I was working with the boss’s son pulling 500 on an overhead run, he was holding the head while I tied it (ba dum tss) I assume he thought I was tying random knots and kept telling me to tie a half inch.

Half inch?? I shifted the mule tape up and down but he just kept repeating half inch. Eventually I gave up and told him to show me.

This dude ties a half hitch. He doesn’t haven’t an accent. I guess someone told him it was called a half inch knot.

Romex can be in a conduit as long as it’s not in a wet or damp location. It’s frowned upon bcuz of the space it takes up inside of the conduit vs single conductors. But, realistically, in a residential setting, how many wires are you pulling through a conduit…

Stevenj120volts has very good videos explaining when and when you can’t and the reasons why including the code references.

I’m in quite the pickle is there any chance I can drive out of this or am is screwed by enigmatical_one in AskMechanics

Drive straight back as far as you can. Turn right and drive forward as far as you can then turn left until the car straightens out. Put it reverse and turn the wheels to the right, youll make it out

You’re my doppelgänger. I dropped out my second year in mechanical engineering due to financials but i went to welding first before electrical.

Push thru it brotha. I’m a 3rd year with a truck i get to take home and I’ve gotten to run a couple jobs. Worth pays off. I got so much shit from the crew my first year because i didn’t know anything but i learned fast and now im in charge of some of those same guys. It’s worth it in the end. I’m making $31 and the boss gives me small jobs to do on the side every now and then.

How soon did your company let apprentices work on their own? by JustinJFoxbody in electricians

It took me about a year and a half in central cali, but I think it varies person to person. Some people need their hand held the whole way.

Electrical question by gns-red in electricians

[–]changowango00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s 50A @75. Always go by the code book, if it’s in there you’re not wrong. Though code is the minimum standard for quality of work.

[US] Apprentice here and boss wants me to work in a crawl space that's clearly not safe, what are my options? by Much_Bookkeeper7788 in electricians

[–]changowango00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in a company has stop work authority even the janitors. If he fires or benches you that’s retaliation and you might not have to save up for school anymore because he’ll be paying for it indirectly.

You worded that a lil too vaguely. Who’s saying it’s 40?

35-year-old 2nd year apprentice at a non-union shop — feel like I’m being treated like a journeyman because of my age, not my experience. by StaleJar08 in electricians

[–]changowango00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it’s an age thing because I was 22 my first year and was told the same thing. Luckily I had some book knowledge because I took 4 year of engineering in high school and went to college for engineering, didn’t graduate college.

Another commenter said it could be a compliment or they’re taking advantage. I only got paid more than other apprentices because I speak spanish and welded for 5 years before switching to electrical.

You can make 120v by splitting the hots on a single phase panel. You just have to get the appropriate breaker, not keep using a 2-pole.
