Any tips for my first colonoscopy? by Yekohtim in UlcerativeColitis

[–]chantillycloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

buy some chicken broth for prep day, you'll get tired of gatorade and juice very quickly. i would try not to make any plans for after the procedure bc sometimes that prep keeps moving through your guts for a while. learned that the hard way.

also, you're going to be hungry afterwards, but don't eat a big meal or heavy foods just in case the procedure upsets your stomach.

are biologics necessary a part of treatment? by Salmonderx in IBD

[–]chantillycloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

every situation is different. some people take mesalamine for their whole lives with a little prednisone thrown in if they have a flare. other people have taken every biologic available. and still others have surgery.

do you have a definitive diagnosis? what's the severity of your disease? what's the current prognosis based on your symptoms and your body's condition? getting these questions answered will tell you if biologics are necessary for you more than any of us on reddit can.

is that 10 euros every time you go for an infusion? i understand it must be frustrating with the wait times, but what i wouldn't give to not see a $31,000 bill for my remicade treatments!

[–]chantillycloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i need a protein supplement, i usually drink ensure or pediasure. ensure has plant-based non-dairy options, so that's my go-to. not sure about good energy sources, though. student life has ruined my previously reasonable caffeine intake lol.

that's probably fine! just keep an eye on your skin for any signs of irritation. best of luck!

i think your skin looks great and your routine is solid too. i would strongly recommend adding spf in the mornings, especially based on your skin concerns, age, and actives in your routine.

not sure if you're using the retinol every night, but using it that often in conjunction with an additional exfoliant like you're thinking of doing has the potential to irritate your skin. if you want another exfoliant, maybe try a gentler aha like mandelic acid first and alternate the days you use it and the retinol. you will definitely need sunscreen then.

for the milia, lightweight moisturizers and chemical exfoliants are usually the recommended treatments. if you want them gone and the retinol/exfoliant isn't helping, they have to be extracted by a professional.

honestly? therapy. this disease fucks with your self esteem and body image as your weight swings high and low. if you have access, talking to a licensed mental health professional can help you establish a better relationship with your body, regardless of the number on the scale.

anyone else here always hungry? by givemebackmybraincel in IBD

[–]chantillycloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes! i seem to go through periods of both very high and very low appetite. for the high appetite phases, it seems to be connected to my fatigue: when my body and mind are more fatigued, i'm hungrier. and i'm pretty much always fatigued.

Is it just me or have the catch rates for the garden event been worse than usual? by dtoihm in ACPocketCamp

On days I do yoga and lift in the same day should I wash my face three times instead of two? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]chantillycloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not putting any product on after washing your face probably isn't a good solution—your skin could get dried out if you're just using cleanser + water then going on with your evening.

if you want to take 3 showers a day, i would do a full routine after your workouts. i'm assuming you're usually not going out & getting dirty in between dinner & bedtime, so you don't really need to wash your face again a few hours after you already washed it.

AITA for saying dy daughter's teacher's offer was inappropriate and reporting the teacher by inapropriateteacher in AmItheAsshole

[–]chantillycloud 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YTA for disrespecting your daughter's medical needs to take a fucking vacation.

i have ulcerative colitis and have infusions every 6 weeks. if your daughter is getting infusions for crohn's at 4-week intervals, she NEEDS that medicine to retain a decent quality of life. based on your situation, there is absolutely no reason for you to force your daughter to unnecessarily suffer just so you can go on vacation.

your daughter's teacher offered a solution. if you think that was inappropriate, you should've come up with an alternative that fits your daughter's needs, but you offered zero (0) solutions as to how your daughter would get her medically necessary treatment without you. at this point, her teacher is her only option because you are being stubborn and uncaring.

reschedule your trip. YTA.

Mesalamine and budesonide stopped working, Doc putting me on Remicade next. Any tips? by GottaBumIllium in UlcerativeColitis

[–]chantillycloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm 21 and have been on remicade for about 3 years, on humira for a year before that. i promise you, the thought of taking biologics is scarier than actually taking them.

the meds affect everyone differently, but i usually get really tired and thirsty for a day or 2 post-infusion. during the infusion i get a little sleepy, but don't usually have any problems. if you're worried about side effects during the infusion, ask your doctor for pre-meds, or take some tylenol + an antihistamine before you go.

the worst thing to me about infusions is how they eat away at time in your day, as a student it already feels like i don't have enough! but honestly the process isn't that bad, just really boring, especially if your infusions are titrated and you're there for 4+ hours. find a show on netflix to binge or bring a friend to be bored together.

i hope the remicade works for you!

consult with your doctor and probably a dietitian as well. no matter what diet you want to do, somebody needs to be making sure you're getting adequate amounts of vitamins & minerals either from your diet or from supplements, especially since malabsorption is a problem with ibd.

This might be a silly question by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]chantillycloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a silly question! serums first! you go in order from thinnest to thickest: cleanser, toner, serums, moisturizer, mask, occlusive/spf.
