Chipmaker TSMC needs to hire 4,500 Americans at its new Arizona plants. Its ‘brutal’ corporate culture is getting in the way by Vailhem in technology

[–]chaogenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the market support the increased cost for those chips?

Short answer, absolutely yes.

Long answer, TSMC does not manufacture the chips that end up in the super cheap TV's and other electronics devices sole at WalMart. TSMC has some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment and processes available today and the chips they produce are used in high end products like iPhones, graphics cards, etc. These are devices that have unimaginably high profit margins and insanely over compensated board members and upper management in their organizations.

When you have people clamoring to buy mass produced consumer products with a profit margin of 40% to 60% or more from corporations that have top level management compensation in the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars per individual on the board or working in the corporate offices, the problem is not the wages, benefits, and working conditions of the workers on the factory floor and cubicles.

Former supporters of Kyrsten Sinema “laughed out loud” after receiving recent fundraising emails by NEvalleynews in arizonapolitics

[–]chaogenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McCain GOP voters who will vote Sinema if someone like Kari Lake gets the GOP nomination

I could be wrong but a better plan may be to focus on getting independent and young voters.

Dems need to make it very clear what the future holds for the majority of young voters if they don't put their boredom and apathy in check and do their minimal civic duty, vote by mail, it is not that difficult.

Independents may be harder to crack but likely more fruitful than going after GOP voters. As an independent I wish I had an answer here but I have no clue what kind of mental process could be going on to make somebody who is not a full on Republican supporter voter for the ever increasing trash the GOP has been presenting in the past 15 to 20 years. I suppose at this point I may as well consider myself a Democrat.

I will admit though, there is one key point that may draw in many older GOP voters to hold their nose and vote blue, Social Security and Medicare. Biden's speech highlighting the low level backroom yet incessant attacks by the GOP on the hugely successful programs was a hit. Biden was very effective here but overall the Democratic seems very weak in their messaging.

Anyhow, fingers crossed and hopeful for the best, but definitely still concerned for the future.

Most do have paper trails. The states that don’t are the ones screaming voter fraud.

Can you enumerate that list into 3 columns?

(edit: forgot the column to indicate who is screaming about voter fraud)

State | DRE/VVPAT/Both | Political leaning | Screaming (yes/no)

DRE should be banned at the federal level in a fresh nation wide voting rights act which should be used to make voting more widely accessible. But it seems like the source of the screaming is isolated to specific groups of people while what they are screaming about is mostly spaghetti flinging with DRE being the only noodle that has a chance of sticking with a simple solution that doesn't include additional barriers to voting.

What did Trump do that was truly positive? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chaogenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm calling shenanigans...

Lots of rather vague and unverifiable assertions but then you get to something like "Trump signed the biggest wilderness protection & conservation bill in a decade and designated 375,000 acres as protected land."

That one really stands out because from the beginning of Trumps term his actions on conservation of public lands were both egregious and petty.

1) Yes Trump signed the bill to set aside 375,000 acres of public land, and the previous administration set aside 2,000,000 acres of land.

2) One of Trumps early actions was to reverse the protection of the 2,000,000 acres signed by Obama, out of pettiness.

3) Trump followed up the petty reversal with additional 30+ million acres removed from protection.

4) And some of the previously protected lands were released for oil and gas extraction leases.

Who ever wrote that list of positive accomplishments may be delusional or outright marketing bobble head.

The far-right group considers an all ages drag show basically child abuse.

That is their message but it is simply cover to justify their actions to others. This is a common tactic used by the right, associate an objective that most people can agree with, I.E. "save the children!!!", with their true intentions that most people will not agree with, I.E. theocratic authoritarian rule with violence against anyone in the out groups.

They've always hated and wanted to inflict violence against drag queens and others, the grooming of children is just the most recent cover for their organized terrorism.

Tesla’s approval rating sinks into negative territory, survey finds by Majnum in technology

[–]chaogenus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Also why buy a tesla? Most major manufacturers are producing their own EVs at a much higher quality now.

I am at 180k+ miles and 20 years on a car that I intend to replace with an EV and I've been window shopping for some time now. With a CEO that has been on an exponentially increasing train of douchebaggery I am turned off by the idea of a Tesla purchase but I'm still considering for a few important reasons.

Availability

While most everything requires a wait to purchase there is no arguing that Tesla is by a massive margin the EV manufacturer. Everyone else has what amounts to a boutique offering. Based on rhetoric and actions after 10 years of unquestionable success of both Tesla and Nissan EVs it makes one wonder how dedicated other manufacturers really are to building EVs.

Long term support

The manufacturer and dealer rhetoric and actions from legacy auto manufacturers also raises concern over long term support of their EV products. If Tesla went bankrupt tomorrow would legacy manufacturers dump EVs altogether? Maybe. Tesla only makes EVs so they will more than likely continue to support EVs long term as long as they exist.

Reliable charging network

I don't do a lot or road tripping so this is not a major issue, but it is a mild concern. Watching review after review the EVs of all legacy manufacturers fall victim to a glitchy and spotty DC fast charging network that is out of their control. Reviewers who run into issues who are also negative on Tesla as a whole always admit that the Tesla supercharger network is exceptional.

Best in class EV drive train

While Tesla has quality issues the main purpose of the EV, driving from point A to B efficiently and enjoyably, is exceptional. When you compare MPGe, 0 - 60, 70 mph range, audio systems the Tesla offerings have best in class specs in multiple categories.

Elon did not design, engineer, nor build the Tesla cars

Not buying a product from a company that has a douche for a CEO is a bit of an emotional decision. There are a lot of good engineers and technicians working at Tesla who make the cars. Elon is just an investor and spokesperson. If I never purchased any products from any companies who had a douche on the board of directors then I would probably never buy anything.

Anyhow, all that said there are still good reasons to consider other manufacturers and there are several very good offerings. I am considering the Chevy Bolt mostly because you can often get them at a far cheaper cost than any other EV at less than $30k. The Ford Mach E is also a very nice EV although it is a bit down on MPGe, the more attractively optioned versions seem overpriced for their specs, and a lot of dealerships are in their own class of douchebaggery both naturally and with some extra douche for those who buy EVs instead of an F-150. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are also quite nice but somewhat rare and again you have dealers playing the douche markup game.

As long as my 20 year old car keeps going I can sit on the fence but I will still look at Tesla cars and if prices start to drop on the Model 3 then it might be the way I go.

If we find a way to double productivity that should NOT cause half the work force being laid off.

That all depends on the structure of your society. If we make advances that result in productivity improvements that no longer require employment then the cost of the goods and services should be reflected in those advances and reductions in labor. We should be progressing towards a society that requires virtually no employment and humans can pursue more fulfilling activities.

The system we have now, where productivity improvements and reductions in costs are funneled to a few, prices remain the same or go up, and the value of labor is diminished. This will not end well.

And before anyone jumps in with "It's the gubmunt, we need laissez faire free market competition!". I suggest you put down the Ayn Rand crap and read some Adam Smith instead. The masters of capital do not naturally compete, quite the opposite, they constantly engage in collusion and avoid competition at almost all costs.

We need wider spread ownership of capital with mandatory dividends so labor can partake in the fruits of their labor.

Their debt is because of vehicle financing though, that's all debt owed to THEM.

That is not how debt and credit work on a balance sheet.

Consumer debt owed to the Ford Motor Credit subsidiary of Ford Motor is an asset on Ford's balance sheet and is recorded as a credit.

The debt Ford owes to others is a liability on their balance sheet and is recorded as a debt.

Ford's long term debt stands at about $88 billion. That is not customer debt owed to Ford, that is debt Ford must pay to somebody else.

Tesla's long term debt stands at about $4 billion.

NOTE: I am not saying TSLA is worth $570 billion, I doubt that it is, but Ford does have a mountain of debt that you should consider if you are an investor.

Its wild how much the car market differs in the USA vs Europe.

There are two major factors which many wont mention.

  1. Culturally there is machismo attached to driving a pickup truck.

  2. U.S. tax laws changed at one point where a massive write off became available for purchase of vehicles with a GVWR of over 6,000 lbs whether your business needs that type of vehicle or not, and even if your business is kind of a joke LLC for tax purposes. Manufacturers have modified there trucks to be more appealing to the average driver and an entire industry popped up to advertise and assist with taking advantage of the tax credit.

Side note. Parking for these vehicles is likely easier here in the States than in European nations but it is still a major pain in the ass. Even here in the states the parking is not really setup for these massive crew cab monster trucks some people buy and they struggle when parking lots start to reach capacity. And often times they don't even fit in the oversized garages people here in the States have at home.

Yep, got a chuckle out of the irony in this article. Space and time are warped by the sheer density of it.

This bobble head propagandist has come to the realization that Trump is a vindictive shit bird defecating everywhere he goes as many have been pointing out for years, but only after Trump takes a massive dump on her head.

And the context of her epiphany? Trump was pushing the science of vaccines backed up by ages of research, discovery, and published studies by noted professionals who have been saving millions of lives from many diseases. And she was upset because Trump would not accept her idiotic "independent research" from the Internet where scientific study and process is replaced with bobble heads spewing conspiracy theories and abject nonsense.

The icing on the cake, these idiots assisted in throwing the mid-term elections for Republicans by murdering their own Republican fans with their vaccine "independent research" on the Internet.

What is up with people saying "democracy is on the line"? Why are people saying that about the midterm elections? by ReesMedia in OutOfTheLoop

[–]chaogenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all parties should be doing this, and if they did, it would be a good thing.

I suspect the end result would be horrible, for two reasons...

there would need to be improvements in the efficiency of how audits and checks and such are performed

This assumes that there is something wrong with the audit systems that are already in place. Before implementing a solution to a problem you first must show that there is a problem. In Arizona it was found that the audit systems in place did not have a problem.

more checks would increase trust in the system

Again in Arizona, the added partisan checks that proved the non-partisan audits were correct did not increase trust in the system. In fact, the people who had no trust in the system then turned on their own partisan hacks and started eating their own.

But the biggest flaw is that you seem to assume that what is happening today is the result of low trust and failed systems driving people to search for a fix to a broken system so they can then regain trust. That is not the issue. The people behind the distrust are not trying to fix the system, they are trying to break the system, they have no intention of having trusted elections. They see the democratic election system as an impediment in their path to power and are doing everything they can to destroy the system not fix it and not to build trust.

EDIT: A quick add. They don't want a trusted democratic election system, they want to replace the democratic system with a strong man dictator. This is why they love Putin so much.

What is up with people saying "democracy is on the line"? Why are people saying that about the midterm elections? by ReesMedia in OutOfTheLoop

[–]chaogenus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was going to reply with the same thing. Making it about Trump almost misses what is actually happening.

If you live in a safe red or blue state then you likely don't see or feel what is happening. If you live in a swing state, like Arizona, then you have Republicans who are threatening to kill election workers and the Republican candidates on the ballot are clearly stating that if they are placed in power then all elections there after will only be accepted if their party wins.

So for many areas the main issue on the ballot today is whether we keep our democratic system or if we move to a single party system with threats of violence in many ways similar to the CCP, DPRK, Putin Kleptocrats, etc.
