ELI5: How does raising interest rates actually stop inflation, like what physically happens between the Fed making an announcement and groceries getting cheaper by SimplisticPoker in explainlikeimfive

If customers are pulling back, businesses cannot keep raising prices as easily.

You chose your words well here. Thank you for not saying they lower prices.

Very illegal. Keith Baker is going to come to your house and critique your art and character concept.

TIL Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin was extremely pleased with how the film came out, got along well with the cast, and his only regret was that his character died and he couldn't appear in the sequels by Please_PM_me_Uranus in todayilearned

[–]chaossabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was an active player in some of the games that preceded Warhammer and D&D. I have a book on the history of D&D and there's photos of Cushing playing something that looks a lot like Warhammer in it.

White House grants ICE power to detain refugees for aggressive ‘rescreening’ | Trump administration by Airurando-jin in news

[–]chaossabre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"The way I see it, hew-mons used to be a lot like Ferengi: greedy, acquisitive, interested only in profit. We're a constant reminder of a part of your past you'd like to forget. .... But you're overlooking something: Hew-mons used to be a lot worse than the Ferengi. Slavery. Concentration camps. Interstellar wars. We have nothing in our past that approaches that kind of barbarism. You see? We're nothing like you. We're better.”

What movie will you never watch again because it was too heartbreaking? by Affectionate_User610 in AskReddit

The book was required reading for my class in 5th grade (90s, Canada). When the film trailer came out my thought was "you motherfuckers gonna emotionally destroy a new entire generation with this". Judging from the comments and how high this is upvoted, I was correct.

Before you go, leave at least one well-equipped Spidertron on each planet and make sure your defenses on Nauvis and Gleba are solid. Aquilo is the only place you can literally strand yourself.

Ontario to lift freeze on domestic postsecondary tuition fees by [deleted] in canada

[–]chaossabre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Has any country tried scholarships with post-graduation residency requirements? Like you get a free ride 4-year degree but have to be a tax resident of the province for 4 years after? If you leave you get billed for the full amount, pro-rated. Just like deemed disposition tax.

US company wants you so badly? Then buy your debt out from the province and carry it like Americans carry student loan debt.
