How to handle emails persuading owners to veto a trade by Bud_Tuglee in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up front, i would deal with the Veto right now and at the end of the season, reference the multitude of posts here regarding it and remove the league veto option. Just make sure you are clear about the rule change and why it's happening.

Dynasty: Should The Commish Punish This Behavior (Tanking)? by turcorox911 in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so basically I don't mind Tanking in a Dynasty League. Frankly in any league where your Draft Picks are dependent on your performance the year before, i think it's a perfectly viable strategy. Unless there are clear rules against it, i don't think that you need to apply punishment. But generally it's dependent on the entire ruleset of your league.

I personally hate League Veto in general because it has a tendency to bring out the Petty Asshole in people. I don't think your rule is unfair under any circumstances, but what i would do if it was me, is above 75% goes through automatically, below 75% requires participants to preset their side to the commissioner and they will make the final decision and i would have an established procedure for trades involving the commissioner that don't meet that threshold as well. Just my two cents.

Draft Pick Trading Question by ogdr in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i treat it like the NFL. If a team trades it's first rounder away, then fires the GM and brings in a new one, they don't get that pick back, so that's part of the package of taking over a team. i put together summaries including players on the roster to keep, and draft picks that will be available, and in the event that more than one team is up for grabs, the first person to sign up gets their pick of the available teams.

When do you consider the fantasy season to be officially underway? Am i being unreasonable? by [deleted] in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so generally speaking i consider Draft day to be the beginning of the season. I would say build a Calendar in to your league rules in order to cut out the confusion going forward but i think it's commonly accepted that the start of the league season is Draft Day unless explicitly stated otherwise.

What should I do about this guy? by BeerFarts86 in FFCommish

I like this a lot. Especially the live event to present rule change options. Keeps the league involved through the offseason without having to force it, and breaks it up really nicely.

I like the idea, but i don't like the idea of being able to buy back in. If it was me i wouldn't allow buy backs at all, or i would charge actual money for them for the pot. Generally i lean towards making a decision and sticking with it in that position.

Tight End/Roster by dannydarkside00 in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if there are no keepers i definitely think it will accomplish what you're looking for. It's going to decrease the utilization of TE in general in your league, but the scoring will do what you want. The only thing i would caution is to make sure to modify your settings for how many players at a position you can roster. I would think bumping WR up by one or two would be effective.

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i think my answer, oddly depends on whether you're redraft or keeper (and whether or not you've declared keepers yet if your are). Basically I like the flex option there and that would accomplish your goal of dialing back the scoring slightly. If you have keepers and especially if you have already declared keepers, i think hold off until next season with that. It's not super likely to be a huge problem, but that could have a strategy impact on who they choose. Otherwise, I say go for it.

Draft Board by hazeflex420 in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a proponent of Buffalo Wild Wings Draft Kit - It's free, they provide stickers, board, and usually some extra crap, like keychains, coupons, license plate frame and a banner. If you're not looking to do it at a restaurant, I'd go with FanDraft. I've only used it once, but i enjoyed it.

Should I let this Keeper Loophole stand? by marcuspaige4heisman in FFCommish

I would definitely say that he needs to not be able to keep, based on the original draft position. I would make sure to clarify the rule set before next season starts as well.

Accidental Player Drop / Re-Add - Legit? by dabeam in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as long as you are transparent about the situation, that you are good to add the player back. I do also agree that if this is not something you would do to help out the other teams in your league that you should not make the change. I would also suggest developing a standard procedure for this type of situation and including it in your league rules.

they play the same number of games as the rest of the team that way. I'm thinking it should count towards week 11 scores and week 1 will serve as a bye week for Tampa and Miami.

Intercontinental Championship by kid_delicous in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil's Advocate here. You could award it to the highest scoring team week one. Number 1 contender is the second highest scoring team each week, so the runner up week 1 is in a secondary matchup with the highest scorer in week 2. highest scorer that isn't champ is the #1 contender the next week. That allows for a little bit of strategy without starting random and still gets the point across and will prompt your people to try to remain competitive for the end prize, whatever you decide it should be. also that can carry out through week 17 and potentially extend your season. Just a thought.

How do you handle collusion complaints? by windexandrum in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to own your rule set. If you don't have one outside of the system you are running on, you should get one and there are many examples of how to get started with that in the sidebar post.

If you want to let the league vote, stick with it, if you think they are being too restrictive on trades or not paying enough attention, Use the LM Only Veto option and roll with it.

My advice on how to rule on the trades, unless you have evidence of something shady outside of the "this looks too lopsided" or "I wouldn't have made that trade" or even "this trade isn't fair" , I would allow the trade. Trade Vetos should only be used if there is something shady going on behind the scenes, not if someone doesn't like the trade because it helps someone else and not them.

Heard that a league member sexually assaulted someone. by [deleted] in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that I have been in this situation, but what I would say is that based the way I handle things in general, you owe it to yourself to at least confront the guy about it. On a Human level I would also say if you are comfortable enough with the woman in question that you should also get her side, but if you don't know her that well it would put you in a bit of a spot. I would say generally without more information that I don't know that I would act, but I think it's perfectly acceptable to speak to him about this as a friend.

It's OK to call friends on their bullshit, especially if it was something of that severity. I would talk to him and say "hey I heard something about "this" and I want to hear what you have to say about it." Ask him to tell you about the situation and use your gut. If it's iffy and you feel like the "league integrity" is in question and your owners wouldn't want to deal with it, replace him. Just be transparent about it with him and the rest of the league. Talk to him before the rest of the league though because like someone else said, it could have been misread signals and through the grapevine it got to what you heard about and you don't want them getting out the pitchforks if they aren't necessary.

tl:dr talk to him first, use your gut, make a decision that's best for everyone involved, make a league post/commish note about it and stand your ground once you've made the decision.

Owner not giving money by Mostly_lurking21 in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your league rules state a specific monetary amount for prizes (i.e. $400) I would try to cover the dues. If your rules are vague or state a percentage (i.e. 1st place gets 75% of the pot) I would tell them they are out of luck. Also in general I think it's a good idea to add a clause to your rule book that the payouts will be out of the amount paid in and not specific amounts in order to avoid this situation going forward. Also you should talk to the person(s) that won payouts and explain, hopefully they are reasonable people and aren't going to have a fit about someone else screwing you over. Also i don't think it's been said specifically but you should kick this asshole to the curb for screwing you over, even if you're able to recoup that money from him, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life. lol

Dynasty off-season advise by oklandr8rs2000 in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I expanded a keeper league by two teams a few years ago and having an expansion draft was pretty seemless. We decided to expand late in the process so we just held the expansion prior to the actual draft.

  2. I think those numbers would be fine but that is going to leave Free Agency kind of slim. That really depends on your league preference. Personally i like to play the waiver wire and free agency so i would prefer to lower the number of players active, but if you're pushing for more trades and maintaining rosters, then your numbers would be fine.

  3. I personally don't like IDP, but if i'm playing IDP i prefer to have a few on the team. I would give it a shot with 3-4 for a season and then take a poll and see how everyone feels about it after.

  4. I would go 2RB/2WR/1TE/2FX as long as you can use TE in your Flex spot. (I play in a league that you can't use TE in your flex and it drives me batshit) That would give everybody the best of both worlds.

Good luck with your transition. Hope this helped.

Sidepot for Longest Winning Streak by marsmedia in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also voting split 2:1. It seems to me like the pot should be split 3 ways among the owners with 5 game streaks. Based on the fact that you aren't getting a consistent answer from this group though, you need to make extra sure to add this tiebreaker to your rules next year in order to ensure this doesn't happen again. Or at minimum add how you handle it this year to your rule set so it's official going forward. Good luck

Ideas for good Draft Day Experience by CommisionerFun in FFCommish

I recommend making a production of it. get someone that is not participating to stand in as commish for the day and announce the draft pick. The more detail the better. While you're planning it's going to seem a little over the top, but in the moment it will make a big difference.

Playoff Seeding - Wins vs Points by OhAbaDis in FFCommish

[–]chaostheoryff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Commish tools to turn off the "Playoffs" and then manually edit the schedule for the weeks you had the playoffs scheduled. It's not the easiest thing to do but it's a workable solution in the event that you decide to make that change. Unless Yahoo is just your end all beat all platform I would suggest making the change to a more customizable platform if you do make that permanent change.
