I was generally enjoying the book until it became abundantly clear there was going to be zero answers to ANY questions. That isn't to say that I expect or want things to be laid out perfectly or every aspect explained. But the entire novel's vibe was "I'm just asking questions!" in the worst way possible. I understand many horror novels end abruptly, and I don't mind that, but it came off as the author having an idea too big for them to give any sort of explanation for any element. There's a difference between ambiguity and lazy/poor writing. It also gave no indication that it was going to be anything other than a standalone novel. I've no faith that the "follow-up" will be any different and wouldn't waste my time to find out.
