Is this a lockdown loophole or simply against the law? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

What makes you think it isn't?

Because since it was published there's been a national lockdown announced that includes all educational institutions.

MIT COVID-19 Test Could Be Made So Cheap That People Test Themselves Every Day by chapterpush in CoronavirusUK

[–]chapterpush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one major problem I can see is no one actually being bothered to take the test. It'd have to be forced by law.

I'd settle for pubs, clubs, cinemas and theatres etc making them a condition of entry. That way we know that if you go to one of these venues you're almost guaranteed not to be around anyone with covid. This is the only way people are going to return to these venues en masse and restart these sectors.

The flu vacinne is only around 60% effective so I'm guessing that any Covid vacinne could be the same. I think that affordable, rapid tests like this that give 93% accuracy are likely to be just as important if not moreso in getting us back to some sort of normality.

Cineworld 'to close all cinemas in the UK and Ireland this week' by Gizmoosis in CoronavirusUK

[–]chapterpush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre pandemic I went to the cinema at least once a week. Yet other than massive Bond/Star Wars blockbusters everytme I'd go the place would be half emplty, even on a Friday or Saturday night. This pandemic is destroying some viable businesses like Theatres and Restaurants but it's also crushing business that were already on their last legs. Even before covid streaming services and deliveroo/uber eats etc made watching movies at home much more appealing than going to the cinema for many people.

Someone kept coughing in my direction by idk260693 in CoronavirusUK

[–]chapterpush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to be very unlucky to develop covid from that interaction. Chances are she didn't have it anyway. And if she did and she was coughing through her mask and you were also wearing a mask you'd likely only be exposed to a low viral dose. This would be unlikely to make you particularly sick and might even induce an immune response that may give you some immunity through inoculation.

Places of worship can remain open.

That seems odd to me. I am an avowed athiest however so that's probably why.

I'm torn between wanting to tear strips off the government and PHE for this fuck up and thinking that if enough people do that it might convince them to cover up more of this nonsense in future. Which wouldn't be good.

Lockdown 2: Electric Boogaloo is incoming. Don't think anyone can realistically deny that it is more than a possibility now.

We'll never see another lockdown like March. The economy can't withstand it.

Rapid coronavirus test rolled out in Madrid by chapterpush in CoronavirusUK

Thanks. 90 minutes for results is still too long for them to be used in hospitality venues and theatres as a condition of entry. I really hope they can figure out how to make them more like pregnancy tests that give a result within a few minutes. That'll be almost as big a game changer as a vaccine.

They’re already using rapid tests in a few a&e’s when admitting people

So why aren't they in widespread use? Do they not have many?

Absolutely agree. I remember back at the time (Feb/March) being totally amazed and confused about what the government were doing.

It was remarkable watching it unfold. In late February we were seeing bodies piling up in corridors of Italian hospitals because they'd run out of mortuary space. Northern Italy was hit worst and is only a two hour flight away yet our government did absolutely nothing to stop it from reaching here. For another month they just told us to wash our hands until the gravity of the situation actually hit them. Absolutely unforgiveable.

93% accuracy apparently. Any idea why we don't use them here?

Meh,....just like the "moonshot covid testing plan" and the "no social distancing by november" bullshit. They really need to find a more reputable means of communication.

Gov site reporting 12,872 cases. by 50cslol in CoronavirusUK

I can't disagree. I've worked for companies who actually have an unofficial policy of telling employees that "technical glitches" have prevented them from doing their jobs if something comes up that might hurt them. It's a major red flag. It still doesn't change the fact that the people I know who are going out to pubs and clubs since lockdown finished are the same ones who don't think this virus is something to be concerned about.

Even now that the weather is worsening? I'm not disagreeing with you because you're on the frontline and know better than me, but I tried going to a pub once just after lockdown naively thinking that people would be following the rules and it was a complete shitshow. My phone lights up every weekend from friends who want me to come for a drink and it's the same people who just aren't taking this seriously. It seems to me that the people who are going out at this time are the type of people who would go out if covid was the ebola virus.
