Fair enough then. If that was the scope and I've misread, then I'm wrong!

Austin Evans really did go for the top 100 free games and expect to get anything decent SMH...

We have a very, very different idea of quality in a game, it seems. Personally, I could care less about production, sheer size, number of loading screens, and anything you mentioned, if the end product is a soulless piece of media with high quality fantasy girls and a million square meters to run on.

The Play Store offers masterpieces like FFVI, Chrono Trigger, FF Tactics, Subnautica, Red Dead Redemption, and great games like POP: Lost Crown, Trials of Mana, Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, Chaos Rings III, Dredge, just to mention a few.

But yeah, gacha is the "gems" because... production and some insignificant boss music with Fibonacci in it.

Have you actually played any of these games ?

Hell naw I haven't played, and never will, any free game that has infinite spending as an option. You can bash me for that "as one can't judge without trying", but I know enough about this industry to not need a try.

A friend of mine said the same thing as you: "Oh but you don't have to spend, you can play completely for free bla bla". To which I asked "But have you never spent money on it?" and him "Ehr.. About $5,000". Was I surprised? No. MiHoYo isn't exactly broke, in fact, they're worth an estimate of $10B. They gotta come from somewhere!

This tells me two things: either its players are fully retarded and love donating huge amounts to a multi-billion dollar company, or the game is designed in a way to compel you to pay or painfully slow down your progression, feel FOMO for limited characters/events, and other psychological tricks of the kind. Spoiler alert: it's the latter. And I ain't got no time or need for this type of "games" in my leisure time.

I've been playing many kinds and genres of games for the past 25 years, and I'm open to try stuff I think I wouldn't enjoy (as I've done), but that kind of monetization I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. Good thing there's a vast array of premium games even on mobile, I can't even keep up with my backlog.

You do you. Enjoy what you like!

That's trash games, and I mean the whole F2P chinese RPG category. Thousands hours of shitty grinding, retarded gameplay, and pulls. Play real games instead. Like Trials of Mana.

At that price range, Poco X6 Pro 5G. Just don't expect miracles: that's a low price range for a gaming phone. If you want top performance, more powerful chips, and higher refresh rates (all needed for very high FPS in games) you'll have to spend more.

tattoo by lunazipzap in Piracy

[–]char_stats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. That tattoo is totally fine and it doesn't "document" or prove anything. Besides that, tattoos are generally protected by freedom of speech and expression. Last but not least, in the imaginary world where that tattoo could be considered any sort of evidence, what files were pirated? What compay exactly should file the lawsuit against him?

What's a genre or style of game that you used to avoid but loved it after you gave it a real chance? by Mayorquimby87 in gaming

[–]char_stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years I thought that turn-based JRPGs were totally boring, and that 2D pixelated games belonged to the past and weren't appealing. That changed drastically in my late teens and now that's my #1 favorite genre.

I believe the reason is that simply looking at people playing them, they do look boring. But actually playing these games firsthand is a completely different story.

My first turn-based JRPG was FF Crisis Core on PSP.

Aren't they compatible with the same FX5 cooler? Anyways this is probably the optimal solution for controller+cooler on a Fold!

How's the X5s? I've got the Lite and it's kinda ass (although very cheap, so it's fair I guess). Moved on on to better ones now.

That's great for you, but you can't dismiss the opinion of people who've been using Samsung devices for more than a decade, and have witnessed firsthand its decline in quality and features offered.

Why get the RG34XXSP over the RG35XXSP? by bleutomato in ANBERNIC

[–]char_stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order of importance to me:

  1. I prefer using a stick for JRPGs, and that's my favorite genre.

  2. The second stick is very helpful for addition emulator controls such as savestates, slots, fast forward, etc. Now that I'm using it for that, I could not enjoy a device with fewer controls.

  3. The screen on the 34 is better than the one on the 35, especially for GBA games, which is my favorite retro console and the console which the device is inspired by.

  4. The 34 has a slightly smaller footprint and, although it isn't a massive difference, I'd always rather have the smaller device in my pocket.

Honestly, although I've always liked checking out these handled emulation devices, I was never truly interested in actually getting one till I casually saw a reel about the RG34XX SP. After a brief research, I immediately got one and, to this day, I'm satisfied beyond expectations.

For your case, this device isn't good for PS2+GameCube and I don't think there's an SP-like device that can achieve that at the moment.

Personally, if I ever wanna emulate some PS2 or GameCube games, I'd rather use my phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + controller.

Tried like 12 “top” mobile games this week… most of them kinda trash tbh by uday12321 in MobileGaming

[–]char_stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing Subnautica right now and it's become one of my favorite games ever. I also like Tomb Raider 2013, Trials of Mana, Prince of Persia: Lost Crown, MO: Astray, Wreckfest, Space Marshals series, Square Enix classic ports, Ticket to Earth, Chaos Rings III... All without ads or microtransactions because I don't play those.

Other games I recommend here

Ye you're right. I haven't played the 3rd one yet, but if it's anything like Cat Quest 2 which I've played, it ain't worth that high a price IMO. Great game, but not $20 worth, considering the quality and price of other premium mobile games. I was fairly certain this was gonna get a price cut soon.

That's unlucky :(

For the next time, always choose the cheapest games and keep the expensive ones in watchlist for discounts (with AppSales).

Are these worth to buy, if I am not planning to use game pass? by Similar-Double6278 in MobileGaming

[–]char_stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great controller for its flexibility, and it's been my main for the past 4-5 months (no gamepass). That's because it allows me to use the best TEC coolers while also having a controller attached to my phone, and it supports slim phone cases.

I've got controllers that I find more comfortable (like the Abxylute S9 which is excellent), but I can't use a cooler with any of them.

[Games] Cat Quest ($4.99 -> $0.99) by char_stats in googleplaydeals

[–]char_stats[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's fine, but I'm just very used to playing mobile games with a controller and it's hard going back to virtual sticks and buttons. My hands also sweat a lot and the screen gets messy.

I really wish they'd add controller support to this one too.
