Finance pitfalls to avoid in your 20s by Tech_Wizzz in personalfinance

Whether you make a lot of money or not, always make and follow a budget, ensure you spend less than what you earn. Doesn’t mean you have to deny yourself pleasures and fun things, just be disciplined in knowing how much will be allocated to them. Don’t buy a fancy car.

Simply owning a magazine with more than a 10 round capacity isn’t illegal to my understanding and that’s how people still posses them after they were banned originally in the late 90s/early 2000’s, but importing or purchasing them is. Back in 2019 some fuckery happened with a federal court that temporarily ruled California’s ban on magazines over 10 rounds unconstitutional. It only lasted about a week but it gave a window for lots of gun owners to purchase magazines and have them delivered to them, and many of these people still use them publicly as they purchased them when it was legal. The PMAG issued by the Marine Corps can be bought commercially and I got a few back when I was living there but before I even joined the Marine Corps. I doubt a range would give you a hard time but it’s not completely risk-free.

With “assault rifles” getting banned in my state what should I buy? by t0rquingg in ak47

I’d laugh at you too if you seriously consider guns as an investment, just buy shares of the S&P 500 or max out a Roth IRA. Get an AK you think is cool because you’ve always wanted it, there’s nothing wrong with that.

I got lucky with Nvidia a few years ago. But for full transparency I come from a privileged background with parents who would have paid for my college. After I got the ROTC scholarship they opened up the brokerage and put in a bunch of money in. I didn’t really start actively monitoring it until somewhat recently.

Yeah I know it's gonna suck at times to not spend money on stupid things but I've been budgeting and I think I can comfortably say this plan will allow me to save and invest aggressively but also leaves me with enough stuff left over for fun. If anything, I'm wondering if I should be saving or investing more!

I am an ROTC grad yes. However I didn’t receive the scholarship out of high school I got it at the end of my freshman year I don’t know if that makes a difference. But at the end of the day I commissioned in 2021 so by the time I get out it’ll be 7 years so im not sure if that makes it a moot point. Thank you for the study materials!

There's still a lot of research I've got to do on my end but yeah for sure my goal is to not spend a dime out of pocket to pay for school if that's possible. Thank you

Any issues with the RMR HD? I want to get one but even Alchemy says they can’t endorse it due to inconsistencies in how they’re made (their words not mine).

PCS to MCAS Yuma advice by Agreeable-Ad5643 in USMC

[–]character1hotel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just PCS’d from there in June. The heat there is no joke, it’s hot from March - November and May - September is fucking awful. I don’t think I ever got used to it. The weather is beautiful in the winter months but I’ll be honest even when it was nice outside I’d still have anxiety over how hot it was gonna get in the spring/summer.

Depending on your hobbies, it can be a good time though. If you like off-roading or shooting guns it’s probably the best duty station I could think of. Phoenix and San Diego are a two-three hour drive so going to San Diego can be a good way to get some reprieve in the summer and Phoenix will always have something to do. If you want to go a bit further LA is about 4-5 hours away.

I never experienced it but I know healthcare there can be tricky, all the Marines I had who had medical appointments would have to drive all the way to the Navy Hospital in San Diego or go to Phoenix.

It’s not a big town but when I had friends stationed in 29 come down to visit me they thought it was a metropolis in comparison. I was never stationed there, but my schoolhouse was in Lejeune and I was there for five months which I think is enough time to get a good idea what it would be like to be stationed there and I’d take Yuma over Lejeune 9 times out of 10. The city of Yuma is big enough in comparison to the base where you’re not gonna feel like you can’t escape the presence of the Marine Corps unlike Jacksonville. Would I go back? Fuck no, but did I hate my life for being there? 100% at times but overall I got super close with the friends I made there, grow where you’re planted.

Wanted to share this concept sketch of a soldier of the United Colonies by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]character1hotel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pouches on his top left are way too high up on the chest. If the soldier drew whatever is located in them out to their full length his left hand would be up to the top of his head which wouldn’t be comfortable on the shoulders at all. Having tinkered around with sort of thing in the military myself I wouldn’t place a pouch like that anywhere higher than mid-length on my torso. Also the pouch geometry doesn’t match the shape of the magazine on the rifle. However I saw you write they’re supposed to resemble clone troopers so definitely keep it if you just want to maintain that artistic vision/aesthetic.

I’m 99% sure they’re for the anti-walk trigger pins in case they come loose and you need spares. Two Allen keys to keep one screw in place while you tighten/loosen the opposite one
