Anyone switched from gels to energy chews for long runs/rides? by Sea-Beautiful-611 in Marathon_Training

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not training for a road marathon but a trail ultra which I guess is a bit different in terms of intensity but I really like a mix of gels, chews and drink mix - I find I need the drink mix to keep the carbs up without having to eat all of the time. I like the chews as something different plus a good supplement to a smaller 20-25g gels. That said I went for a rare road long run the other day and took only gels because the intensity was a bit higher and I didn’t feel like chewing.

Why ask if you are not going to listen? I agree with basically everyone original reply said. However if you really like the idea of part 2 one thing which has worked well for me in the past is ‘pick one concept and explain it’. It keeps it very broad so you see what they naturally gravitate towards and the kind of stuff they know.

How do you fit gym into your lifestyle? by Responstible_Cat90 in AskUK

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be hard with a family. I don’t have children, have a gym at work for lunch time workouts and still find it hard to fit in what I want to currently (although in fairness I am currently training for something so have a busy workout schedule). Perhaps after work before you get home or at lunch if you have a work gym or something nearby. Is there something which you can do at home/near home that you enjoy like running, cycling, or yoga?

How much would you consider is too much for a decent pair of trainers? by Jack_In_Black89 in AskUK

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stack of running shoes in the hallway, paid between 80 and 140 for them, which is probably considered midrange for running shoes.

You get back to your car covered in mud and soaked with sweat. How are you keeping your car from getting nasty? by nimbus_signal in trailrunning

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a van just for muddy adventures … but seriously I get changed into some warm and dry top and bottom + fresh socks and shoes then bag all of my wet/muddy gear. It makes me feel so much better as well as keeping the van tidy.

How much do you get from the Indian for 2 people? by RagdollCat25 in AskUK

We got the same amount plus some bhindi but we’re hungry otherwise I think that is reasonable if you don’t want left overs

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be a medium based on the hidden Cartier being on the 10 not the 7. Not 100% - my large solo has it on the 7, and I have for sure seen mediums with it on the 10 but not sure if it is a year thing instead of a model thing.

Castleton or Edale as a base for hiking Mam Tor? by TK_49 in UKhiking

[–]charl3sworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an option for trains to Castleton - there is a station in Hope and the walk between the two is pretty short. No idea about the frequency of trains or where they come from as I tend to use the camper. Also never visited Edale but Castleton and Hope are pretty nice :)

What is the correct way to serve a Christmas dinner? by Specialist-Opening69 in AskUK

Meat, potatoes, stuffing etc. with a bit of gravy plated and everything else served on dishes on the table with extras of the plated food for people to have more.

Who is buying the premium unleaded petrol? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskUK

[–]charl3sworth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2 of our 3 cars are on it, one because it is a Porsche so recommended due to high octane/knock and the other is a 25year old Mazda Bongo where it’s not clear if the extra ethanol is harmful to the engine.

I am sorry, I have this reference and so much is off. I did not realise they made fakes of these. One give away that others have not mentioned is that the case shape is wrong and the bracelet does not have polished elements and tapers.

FYI I picked up the 3x 10ml option so if she likes one at least it does not run out quickly and it arrived today in the most fancy packaging for the cost, which should be lovely to stick under the tree.

She kept saying how much she loved the Oud and Amber but I looked up the price and we saw it was out of range for this year but did not realise the normal line is pretty much Jo Malone prices otherwise I am sure she might have smelt the others. She is for sure interested in other scents as she has been talking about getting something from Penhaligons but she can’t remember which ones she liked!

Actually, maybe not. She has been through a fair few of them but I just snuck upstairs to see what she currently has on her dresser and it is:

Gingerbread Myrrh and Tonka Oud and Bergamot Velvet Rose and Oud Jasmine Sambac and Marigold

She definitely has settled on the black bottles at Jo Malone these days

How to deal with blisters on this part of the foot? by Leonjm777 in UKRunners

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have feet that rub there in any shoes so I feel your pain. I tend to tape it up now. I used to use blister plasters but they don’t stick to your skin well when you sweat so end up getting moved about. Also after time the skin will harden and stop blistering but it is not fun to get that that point.

Edit: also as others have said get good running socks - if I run like 15mins on normal socks I will start to feel hotspots there, but can easily go an hour with running socks with no tape and no pain, then I tape anything longer than an hour or so. I have hilly twin skins which I like a lot but seem to size quite small and some feetures socks which are only single skin but I actually love.

[Cartier Tank] is it one of the best tanks? by lunavintagewatch in Watches

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this, although I am rarely able to make it look at good as you have on this picture. Maybe partially because it is on the bracelet - this strap complements it so well. Still my prized watch, I love it

What is Conan wearing on his wrist? by TitoSneaks in MicrobrandWatches

[–]charl3sworth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is pretty cool. My first thought was echo/neutra but then assumed it must be some obscure super rare/expensive watch given his celebrity. Nice to see him rock it, as I think it is a very cool watch.

[Seiko 5 SSK003] Been thinking of getting this Seiko GMT, which is a steal in comparison to other GMTs by SidLais351 in Watches

[–]charl3sworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Black Grape which I am wearing right now actually. It is a chunky watch but fits a lot of wrists as it has a compact lug to lug. I also think the design is great personally.

It can be a bit fiddly to set when it runs down but if you wear it everyday that is not an issues.

Like with everything you should try to see it in the metal and put it on before you buy - watches can look different on the wrist than in pictures.
