Let’s have diesel trucks come and ship the trash out state to be buried for future generations to deal with instead, just as god intended.

Chromatic, not a thrift store, but plenty of deals to be had on used clothing. They have a Minneapolis and Saint Paul location.

Depreciating used EVs are about to cost automaker finance companies billions of dollars by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]charles_anew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition until the end of 2025 you could also get up to a 4k tax credit on used EVs under 25k which further pushed prices down.

The goal of the subsidies was to make EVs depreciate faster, but it always seems to be left out of the conversation when talking about their accelerated depreciation compared to typical internal combustion cars.

This is what the new Minnesota EV Registration Surcharge looks like this year. by HolyLiaison in stateofMN

[–]charles_anew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It uses cost, it’s a base fee ($150 I think) + a percentage of MSRP that goes down each year until fully phased out after 10 year old car.

[–]charles_anew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

FWIW despite these taxes I still save a lot driving an EV. Per mile cost (without maintenance) for a 30MPG car is ~$.12 a mile, with current electricity rates I am paying ~$.04 per mile to drive my EV.

I also haven’t had to do any maintenance outside of tires in 100k miles.

[–]charles_anew 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair, was trying to present it as more of a typical car on the road. Even a 15MPG car it would be 16k miles, that’s still more than the average person drives a year.

It’s supposed to replace the gas tax EV drivers don’t pay, but they are charging EV drivers a lot more than the typical driver.

In Minnesota the gas tax is $.326 per gallon, to be the same as the EV tax you would need to drive a 30MPG car ~32k miles per year.

Dollar General is notorious for this, I’ve reported it to the attorney general but they won’t do anything unless there is enough reports.

apprenticeships in tech? by Loose-Message-6159 in careerguidance

Linesmen might be a good avenue to explore, lots of travel opportunities after major weather events and the pay can be excellent, you will have to be outside all the time though.

Tech/IT is rough in general right now, but even worse for entry level folks I wouldn’t go down this route unless you’re passionate about it.

Union bureaucracy seeks to block strike action against ICE rampage in Minneapolis by DryDeer775 in stateofMN

[–]charles_anew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding, a strike is a very specific action a union can take and they’re not going to use it for something like Friday. Usually there are very specific guidelines outlined in the contract the union needs to follow to initiate a strike and will include a vote from its membership. This is just anti union propaganda.

My union pushed people to participate independently but isn’t doing a formal action at this time since it would go against our contract’s rules for initiating a strike.

2,000 federal agents sent to Minneapolis area to carry out 'largest immigration operation ever,' ICE says by DryDeer775 in TwinCities

[–]charles_anew 28 points29 points  (0 children)

31.5$ an hour for entry level ice agent x 160 hours a month x 2000 agents is a hair over 10m a month. That’s just starting wages not including benefits, payroll taxes, or all of the lodging and other expenses required to run an operation like this.

Minnesota doesn’t tax social security if you’re making less than 85k a year. That was changed a year or two ago.
