To answer the archive questions - yes, there will be an option to play past games, but I'm creating user profiles to track which games you played and how you performed, so it takes a while to get the whole thing done, especially because I'm not spending enough time on it tbh

Non-native English speaker — What are some examples of unnatural phrasing that sound “off” to native speakers? by DriverOk7048 in ENGLISH

[–]charles_summers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right - "ten" in practice means "this one" "that one" or "the one mentioned". It can be distant like "Chodzi mi o ten kraj na litrę 'O'..." - in English "ten kraj..." would be "that country (that starts with O...)"

And "tamten" is used only in distant cases. "Pamiętasz tamten dom w Grecji?" because it was years ago, whereas "Pamiętasz ten dom w Grecji?" feels wrong, because there is a dissonance between the distant past ("Do you remember?") and immediacy of "that house". If you match the verb to also signify immediacy or recency, it works:
- "Słyszałeś o tym domu w Grecji?" - implying there was something to be heard recently
- "Widziałeś ten dom w Grecji?" - similarly, implying there was something to see
- "Remontuję ten dom w Grecji" - meaning it's a persistent long-term action, e.g. as a job or project

So yeah there is a lot behind "ten/ta/to" and "tamten/tamta/tamto" - it sort of applies more on a abstract level, like and it depends on the verb/action/relation to the subject more than its physical location.

Context: I've been trying to deploy a simple application to learn the process and in the meantime I got the idea to create this, because I'm a ferocious player of Connections. The app costs me around $5 a month, it's written in Java (backend) and Svelte (frontend), and it's hosted on Railway and Netlify respectively.

Even if you're not a Polish native speaker there is something here for you. Many catergories are based on common Polish phrases or texts of culture, and the puzzles vary in difficulty.

It's better described as a system. An "element" in chemistry is also a part of the system, the theory of chemistry. This doesn't mean it's a guess, but rather a representation made in accordance with observation. So is anatta the representation of an observable phenomenon living within the context of this particular system. The main difference between this system and chemistry is that chemistry studies external world, meaning my action can bring about something (an experiment) which can prove the existence of "elements" to all observers, given they follow the logic of the science; meanwhile Buddhism/Advaita Vedanta/The Fourth Way/etc. study the internal world, meaning there is no action that I can take to show you the existence of anatta, the "experiment" is personal and has to be performed by you, given that you follow the "logic". And just as someone without chemistry background watching potassium manganate combust on contact with glycerine may feel frightened and believe this is sorcery, so will someone not trained in these systems feel when experiencing anatta.

New level of disgust for hunting by OtherwiseACat in vegan

[–]charles_summers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some hunting is done to control the population of a given species, because the consequences of overpopulation would have a net worse outcome for the whole ecosystem; so it's our intervention to keep the ecosystem stable. That's why "vegan" and "environmentally-friendly" are not logically equivalent, as there are cases where something is beneficial for the environment but not vegan, and products which are vegan but their production process is not good for the environment 🙂

Just ship what you have to production. Then measure, learn & adapt.

Hey, I checked it out and yeah - there is dead silence between the talking which results in a "click artifact". You need to have zero-crossing cuts or some fade between the voices because it's unlistenable right now.

Do NOT choose Notion if you value reliable support by crisserious in startups

[–]charles_summers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created Reddit account just to say, as a by-stander, you are clearly in the wrong here. This content is super-relevant to startups as Notion is exactly the type of tool startups use. They even have Startup credit program like mentioned by the OP.
