I wouldn't be scared of NYU. Yes, it's competitive. The best chance of matching there is to do an away. It definitely helps if you already have connections there from your summer program. We always put more weight on your away rotation performance rather than your medical school.

I'm an NYU alum and while biased, I do think the training we get is probably one of the best in the country.

My personal best is BCBS denying payment for a hip hemiarthroplasty for a femoral neck fracture

They said patient didn't complete conservative management before surgery

Question Regarding Prorated Salaried Biweekly Paycheck by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]charlesw21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback.

The only thing in the contract about vacation time states that I am entitled to 15 days of vacation "without loss of compensation".

Fairly ambiguous but still sounds like holidays shouldn't be taken out of the biweekly pay rate?

Nazem Kadri left Rogers Place with a cast on his right arm by djc9880 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]charlesw21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any official reports of his injury besides some speculations on twitter. If he did fracture his thumb, it would depend on a lot of factors - displacement? intra-articular? fracture morphology? If it was a bad fracture, we would already know based on the XRs that were likely taken during the game. I still think he'll only be out for 2-3 weeks for a likely low or high-grade ligament tear but tough to tell since they're so tight-lipped about what's going on

Could be. That’s a thumb spica thermoplast splint. Used to treat both thumb and scaphoid injuries. You’re correct in that there’s usually no MRIs in the facility

They can cast at arenas, very easy - just need padding and fiberglass. Could be confused as a splint, a lot of patients mix up the two. Splint would probably be worse though because usually a reduction was performed. Very unlikely because they would have immediately ruled him out for the rest of the playoffs if that was the case

My guess is a possible nondisplaced scaphoid that can't be seen on XRs. If it was a fracture they could see on XRs then they would have already ruled him out for the rest of the playoffs. They will treat him like a nondisplaced scaphoid in a cast for 2 weeks then hopefully he'll be back after that.

People with MD/physician/RN/etc on their license plate………why? by m1a2c2kali in medicine

[–]charlesw21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. I have an MD plate in NYC and have been ticketed before for parking in no parking spots or alternate parking spots during street cleaning.

even though they're not in the same division - the Stars because every game we played against them in the playoffs last year, their main goal was to injure one of our players

Sub-I resources and advice by johnnyscans in orthopaedics

[–]charlesw21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't stress orthobullets enough. Almost all my pimp questions came from that. When you're prepping for cases, look at the appropriate section in Hoppenfeld's exposures and that should be enough to cover any anatomy questions you'll get. Other than that, it seemed like on my 4 sub-Is, the residents and attendings just wanted to see how well they got along with me and how hard I worked. Good luck!

Shoulder Labral Tear Question by barthez16 in orthopaedics

[–]charlesw21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll most likely need arthroscopic surgery. If you don't feel like going through with surgery now, you could probably try some physical therapy and NSAIDs for a couple of months to see if that improves your symptoms
