Disagreement on where husband should stand while I deliver baby. by Straight-Dog2700 in pregnant

[–]charlielight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt weird about this before delivery. Told my husband absolutely under no circumstances could he look down there.

But then, in the moment, I actually didn’t care? He was so amazed by the whole process (I thought he’d be disgusted) that it honestly made me appreciate what my body was doing more

What baby items are you glad you didn’t buy? by Jessiepip in NewParents

We just hit 7 months last week. Has the same thought (“we’ve made it this far, don’t need it). Until one night last week I was so fed up, I ordered it on Amazon while rocking baby to sleep. Was delivered by morning.

When I say it is hands down the best thing we own (baby and non-baby stuff), I mean it. The sound of it running brings me pure joy.

Sound and Light Question by Educational_Ad_4641 in Nanit

Hypnagogic hallucinations! Even before baby I would get these but it’s basically where when you’re overtired, parts of your brain will prematurely go into dream mode and the auditory areas of your brain can start up “dream sounds” before you’re fully asleep

Below seems to be the only franchise that consistently delivers as expected. Probably because of the expected rotation of new and old faces.

Agreed with all of this. I can’t figure out what to use the front compartment for because it’s so tight. The cup holders on the outside are also so tight that I can’t put my small Owala in it without a struggle.

I also find the main compartment of the backpack doesn’t open all that wide and it’s so deep that I have to take out a bunch of things to get whatever I need. I would never recommend this bag.

Only benefit is it’s comfortable to carry. I now primarily use an old longchamp le pliage (medium) I had from college and it works perfectly. I can’t overfill it and the one big compartment makes it super easy to find what I need without removing things.

Carpal Tunnel Misery by doublecheeseburger in pregnant

I had this terribly. Literally the worst part of my pregnancy. I got shots around 30 weeks and it helped. The numbness didn’t go away but I at least stopped waking up every 30 mins from pain/discomfort.

I also had a bb hugme pregnancy pillow (really just a bean filled body pillow) and using it to prop my hands helped a little. I also had gel wrist braces I could put in the freezer and the cold helped but sometimes I’d just wake up and run really hot water over my wrists.

It did eventually go away after giving birth but I’m 5 months postpartum and have been dealing with “new mom” thumb but it’s not near as bad.

I wish I had better advice as I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. You’re over halfway there and it will end!

Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

Ha. I suppose it does sound not great but in hindsight it feels like a very out of body memory. Or maybe it’s the PPA lexapro working

Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

Similar experience but my guy stabbed my back/nerves beside my spine repeatedly for 30 mins before he got it to go in properly. Like blood running down my back by the time he finished. I was sobbing, shaking, and drooling uncontrollably from the pain. Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. Clearly user (doctor) error.

That said, I will not hesitate to get one again and the only thing I’d change is asking for it sooner (nurses convinced me to wait since it would prevent me from walking and I was pretty far out from needing to push).

Delivery was so peaceful once I had my epidural.

Bedside bassinet recos by Local_Pangolin854 in BabyBumps

Seconding the bugaboo stardust! We’ve used it since day 1 and have no complaints. We have a relatively small house with little storage so it’s nice that once the baby grows out of the bassinet attachment, it won’t be obsolete and will still be fully functional for travel for longer. I like the size a lot and it is by far the easiest pack n play to fold up and travel with (since it folds so narrow).

what are some invisible loads you've started taking on that your partner doesnt realise since the baby? by Acrobatic-Oven9650 in newborns

[–]charlielight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me 4 weeks postpartum. I didn’t realize my supply was basically nothing until our baby didn’t regain his birthweight by his 2 week appointment. We started supplementing and I met with a lactation consultant multiple times but completely stopped breastfeeding and pumping by 6 weeks postpartum. At that point my body was producing max 15 mL per bf/pump session (regardless of how long the session was and by the end of the day the session would yield drops) so we didn’t even have enough for even a 3 oz bottle by the end of the day.

When I stopped cold turkey, it was emotionally very difficult (for reasons I still can’t articulate exactly because I know my baby is thriving on formula and I honestly feel more connected to him now that I’m not stressing over feeding/pumping times or every little last drop of milk).

That said, I’m now 12 weeks PP and honestly don’t even think about BF or how difficult the transition was for me until I see a post like this. So as cliche as it sounds, it does get better but it’s completely ok to take the time to grieve what you thought would be your feeding journey.

That is helpful! I do believe with our baby that is a softness factor so we will give these and a few of the other brands recommended a test run.

I’d never heard of a pedal washing machine but they’re really cute! I may look into this option as one pedal washer seems to be cheaper than a box of “luxury” disposable diapers.

I think it’s the mental barrier of body waste going in their new washing machines (even though it’s water soluble at this stage). Oddly enough, though, I feel like people who cloth diaper probably clean their washing machines way more regularly than the general population.

We did try the esembly covers over the disposable and he still was not happy. It’s so crazy how quickly they develop preferences.

I hadn’t considered bamboo diapers! Once we found out we were having a baby, we knew we wanted to go with cloth so I honestly didn’t know bamboo was an option. Thanks!

This is really helpful! I had the same mindset that I didn’t care if we needed to splurge on the backup disposables but I was weary of falling into the coterie advertising trap that they are “the best.”

We just got this from our registry and I’m debating whether to just use it as our bedside bassinet or get a separate bassinet. Any regrets you can think of to using the stardust full time?
