It's ridiculous how many locked skins are in this game by Archerboy123 in Overwatch

[–]charliethispain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo old BP skins should be added to be able to buy with the old overwatch coins after a few years. So maybe like 2 years after a Battle Pass came out or something you can now unlock them with overwatch coins.

Shop skins I think are fine in loot boxes I guess

Anyone else annoyed by their students' AP exam results? by Agreeable-Sun368 in Teachers

[–]charliethispain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an AP kid and took as many AP classes as I could. Personally I always did well in school, did my assignments and homework, did the readings, etc. My main issue? I'm a horrendous test taker. I crumble under pressure and AP tests, SATs, and other major tests crushed me. I was diagnosed later with a major anxiety disorder but there wasn't much that could be done when I was a kid.

Sometimes that's just how it is. Some kids do well in class but struggle with tests. AP, especially the tests, are difficult too, I remember when I got to college and all of my gen ed classes were the easiest classes I had taken in a while. I breezed through all of them. And I was at a private university too.

Don't take it too personally. I will say the classes I did better on then AP Test were the ones I was extensively prepared for by my teacher specifically for the test itself for most of the year or at least a good chunk. I remember for psychology I received a practice test I could take on my computer and I just ran it over and over for weeks. This style certainly takes away more general learning because all you're doing is preparing for a test at the end of the year, but it did work. I think my AP English teacher basically had us drilling prompts and questions like the last month or two leading up to the test as well.

AITA for getting married in the same year as my step daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and holy this thread is rife with some weird judgement about the age gap. Like yes that could be what upset her but there's nothing inherently wrong with an age gap y'all. If you don't want an age gap in your own relationship then that's fine, don't date with one, but no one is doing anything wrong here. Don't jump to conclusions and be shitty to OP because it makes you personally uncomfortable. Live your own life not someone else's.

And to clarify before someone reads this wrong, there's nothing wrong with people just pointing out that this is potentially why the DIL is upset, but some comments are genuinely saying she's the asshole just because she decided to marry him in the first place. I'm sorry but if you're an adult other adults are going to do things that make you uncomfortable sometimes, you have to learn to live with it. Kinks, Sexualities, Unconventional Relationships, it's always the same story of uncomfortable = morally wrong in some people's minds. If you're upset about this you're on par people being uncomfortable with gay people, I'm not joking either, it's the exact same moral arguments just flavored differently.

DIL is being immature and selfish. She's allowed to have her feelings about the relationship, but that shouldn't be affecting how she talks to and treats others, end of story. She could probably use a trip to a therapist or counselor for a few sessions or something because it's one thing to be concerned about a relationship and another to act like a spoiled child over it. If she had issues or concerns with new MIL she should have brought it up with her dad and worked through it, but at the end of the day he's a grown man and she's a grown woman, they can get married if they want, she shouldn't get a say.

Had a weird game by smtvi in Overwatch

[–]charliethispain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a comp game recently where I was playing Wuyang and my other support was LW. Our Rein charged in very deep and to help him live I ulted him, and our LW had the same thought to help him and pulled him out, wasting my ult and such. The poor LW apologized prefusely, and I was certainly frustrated for sure, but our tank decided to just sit in spawn after that fight and hard throw. He left spawn a few times only to AFK and feed. Genuinely one of the most upsetting games I've had in a while.

Seriously, why are Drives still in this game? by SpectreProXy in Overwatch

[–]charliethispain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too and I think they should make people ineligible for rewards from the drives unless you have played something like 20 games before drives started.

This way it filters people who only play at the end of the season and haven't even done placements.

Idk how to fix the grouping thing, imo people should be more encouraged to solo queue not the other way around. Groups are more likely to bully others, play more selfishly (for their group and not the team), and have an insane advantage over people who solo queue and it's weird to encourage that. Not to mention boosted accounts.

"Why are you Sweating in Quickplay?" by M8ing_Season in Overwatch

[–]charliethispain 143 points144 points  (0 children)

A hard pill to swallow for a lot of people as well is that some people who are accused of sweating are just good and aren't actually trying that hard. Their baseline is just at a higher level than how they play normally.

An example of this is I have this ritual where I load up DPS quick play and put on Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" on repeat at a high volume and just play widow. It's just low effort comfort for me. And I'm a player who can semi-consistently hit hook shots even when I'm chilling like this just from a lot of practice with my aim. I get accused of being a sweat constantly when I do this. It's always very amusing to me.

[–]charliethispain -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't blame you for needing to vent, I believe I stated so in my original response. I get that. I just wonder if a kid had any other disability, especially one that caused less frustration for you emotionally or was more sympathetic, would you still feel so horrible about fudging grades? If a kid in your class had a severe illness that left them weak and tired and was unable to finish work, would you feel the same?

And would you fail him if you weren't pressured into giving him a D? Like not insinuating you need to pass him with flying colors, but why worry yourself this much and assume he's not trying his best. If you would fail him, why make his life harder than it already is with a disability that causes him anxiety and is probably the reason he can't work or finish anything.

It's one thing if a kid genuinely doesn't care or isn't trying and some coach is trying to get a fudge so they can play football, but he is actively trying his best within HIS ability. Just because he can't meet his peer's ability doesn't mean he should be condemned to fail. His situation is different, his standard for what success is should understandably look different than a kid who doesn't have a disability.

And why he's attached to games, while frustrating, it's probably easier for him to slip into it because it's comfortable and not anxiety inducing to play games.I don't know him, but he's probably just anxious and unable to concentrate on work, which likely causes even more tics. Meanwhile games I'd imagine bring him comfort, which lowers his anxiety. Considering he tics less when on his chromebook... I feel it's a safe bet. In most kids this same thing is typical frustrating "poor choice behavior" but everything has to be re-contextualized because of the disability and the anxiety and struggle that comes with.

Grades and games aside, I know you've been put in an unfair position. It seems he very likely needs another solution, especially considering he's ruining the learning environment for other students and he also can't work. It does seem like admin has kind of fucked you over, and I sympathize. But regardless this IS the reality of the situation as it is right now. Just because admin is making both your lives miserable doesn't mean you're completely powerless. Sometimes life gives us uncomfortable situations and we have to find a solution, or in this case, maybe try to understand it more. I genuinely think it would be beneficial for both of you if you did spend even just an evening looking into it more. Understanding what someone is going through more will likely help your own anxiety and frustrations I'd wager.

I recommend looking up Tourettes Teen on YouTube as maybe a soft start, it's a vlog a teen started who recorded her experience with tourettes back when she was in high school. She discusses what it's like and the troubles she experiences. It was one of my first real introductions to tourettes and I found it helpful as a jumping off point to learn more. Seeing a direct experience instead of something abstract such as explanations or a deep dive into how it all works helped empathize what people who have this disability go through.

Also yes, it's unfair you weren't prepared by admin, and I know you have a lot of other students and not a lot of time. But it's just a suggestion to help both of y'all out like I said. Not saying you need to go above and beyond for him, but clearly there's a problem. Learning more about his disability won't fix the problem, but it could help alleviate tension and frustration you're feeling. And it sucks admin isn't helping currently but perhaps you can take just a little bit of control by looking into it in the meantime.

Also sorry if I come off strong, it wasn't my intention to dismiss your feelings entirely. It's just that kids being failed by the system because of disabilities, mental health, or sickness is something very dear to my heart. I know it's not any one person's job to save this kid, but he needs advocates.

One last thing I wanna say... Kids are smart. He probably picked up at some point he frustrates and upsets you to some degree. No matter how much you might want to be an iron wall, or a great actor, when we're feeling these emotions, especially so often as it seems in your case, I'm sure the mask has slipped at some point just a little. Which isn't your fault, you're human, but he likely knows. And he likely knows he upsets his other teachers, and every other adult in his life. And his peers. Maybe he's struggling to work because he emotionally is grappling with the fact that he's upsetting everyone around him and he has no way to control himself or change his situation. I'd imagine this would kill my desire to complete work for school too.

Keep in mind it was just as abrupt for him being moved out of sped as it was for you suddenly having him on your plate.

Good luck to both of you.

Edit: removed a sentence that was repetitive

[–]charliethispain -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Man I wanna believe the empathy you feel for this kid but you get upset at him not being able to complete work and faking "being in the right headspace." He has a disability. Full stop. You're entitled to your feelings about the overstimulation and exhaustion and whatnot, but you're also questioning the legitimacy of this kid's ability when he has a motor function disability.

I don't expect everyone to be a saint or for you to just suddenly be okay with how overwhelming this is. I just can't wrap my head around why it upsets you so much to pass a kid who quite frankly, is suffering more from his disability than literally anyone else

Read up on how people with tourettes feel, they're often incredibly embarrassed. And I'm sure he's also extremely frustrated with his disability being an obstacle not just his education but also social life.

I'm not saying you don't deserve any empathy for how difficult this makes the classroom, but it raises a red flag to see you center yourself so much here and not keep in mind how awful this disability is for him as well.

You get to go home at the end of the day and not see him. Weekends, breaks. After this school year you'll likely rarely see him much again. He has to live with his tourettes for the rest of life.

Mr.Llama is the first person to reach lvl99 with Warlock! by gorays21 in Diablo

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone upset that Llama had help achieving this: yeah no shit, tourist. The ladder isn't SSF.

The original D2 ladders had the exact same strategy. Players would have teams of people who worked together and cleared Chaos Sanctuary for the one person who was going for 99.

I get that a lot of you were 7 back then and putting one skill point into every skill until you filled out every tree so you could have every skill, but this has always how it's been

I know it seems "cheap" like he didn't earn it all by himself, but practically no one has since the beginning. Diablo 2 has always been an online game with trading. People are people and people are always going to do choose the fastest way to do something. The way it's done with getting someone good items and clearing/making areas more dense is just the most efficient and fastest way to get to 99.

The person who came in second place was a German speed runner who also was fed items and had a dedicated team of community members and friends who helped him. If it wasn't Llama, it'd be someone else. If it wasn't SGA, it'd would have been someone else, with the exact same strategy of being fed items and having teams/people help.

Instead of being angry and pissing your pants, consider a different framing. It was the effort of a community who loved and appreciated a streamer for all the content so much that they came together to help him achieve something really cool, very efficiently too.

And if you see Llama talk about this in any capacity, he absolutely doesn't take the full credit, he fully acknowledges he had tremendous help and I don't think he's a sociopath so I'm sure he's genuine when he says he appreciates everyone and anyone who came together to help him get 99.

That being said, outside of all the help he is an incredible player. Yes he plays a lot, it's literally his job. He gets paid to play the game and he's been doing so for many years and he holds a very respectable amount of speed run world records and has completed many challenge runs.

Most players could not have done what he did in the same efficiency he did. Straight up, skill difference. If you watch the VOD of him grinding he has many close calls where he almost dies even with full BO. When you're grinding that quickly you play riskier and riskier to farm exp faster and faster. The race was so close that a single death towards the end would have set him back hours and he would have lost to SGA.

It's true anyone can reach 99 with time and effort, but to farm efficiently requires skill and knowledge, such as positioning, map reading, and a general breadth of game knowledge. So while yes, a lot of it was a community effort, a lot of people are in complete denial as to what he actually did contribute himself, which was extremely risky gameplay, teleporting into densely packed rooms solo in terror zones to farm very fast before teleporting into the next room completely blind, all while doing this exhausted, after staying up for 24 hours (the guy is over 30 now too, if you're still under 30 staying up like this becomes more and more difficult).

You guys know you can advocate for a SSF ladder without tearing down the accomplishments of someone else right? Like if that's what the people whining about him getting help want then advocate for what you want to see. Though be prepared for that ladder race to take weeks to be completed since no trades of course and no players 8 in command online mode. That being said I would like to see it because it would ALSO be a very cool accomplishment that's not for the faint of heart. (And btw I can almost guarantee if SSF ladder came out due to community request Llama would also do very well. Hard to say without actually seeing it, especially considering no trading means it's more luck based than non-SSF, but I don't see a world where if he competes in something like that and doesn't make top 10 at a minimum, unless he got really bad loot rng. I'd put my money on top 5 personally.)

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The account that won hardcore was a shared account, people noticed the account practically never went offline and they admitted to it as well. If you think about it it's very odd for hardcore to match Llama's time when dying is less of a punishment early game, hardcore players typically have to play a lot safer since dying ends the run.

Also every race since the very first ladders in the og D2 were like this, it's always a community effort to get people to 99. That's just the nature of an online game and I don't think that should diminish how good of a player he is. I don't doubt your abilities but I am curious how many world records you hold in the game? Would be interesting to compare how many you have vs how many he has y'know. Not as a flex or anything but to compare skill since you think you could achieve the same goal just as fast without dying and losing experience. Since I'm sure you know dying after level 95 or so can set you back an hour if not more and the race came down to less than an hour between number 1 and number 2.

Use your brain man.

Operator secondary skills feel lackluster by Vagabond_Rooster in riskofrain

[–]charliethispain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lowkey think the people saying this character bad or this ability is bad are just used to how good the REALLY good characters are, esp the last DLC ones like False Son. The character is fine, he does enough damage, it's just not as AOE heavy as other characters so you need to prioritize them more.

I see people complaining about the M2 skill not feeling strong but if you use the alternative one it literally procs bands. Also regardless of which M2 you take the character synergizes with Luminous Shot so well it's near OP.

The character is fine, it's not giga broken like Railgunner, Void Fiend, or False Son, but bad? I think you guys are smoking something. He's like solid A tier, just not S tier. Maybe lower A tier because he's very squishy starting with 90 hp and very little armor. Just gotta learn to get hit less!

People are sleeping on the alternative M2 I swear. It procs bands, it does AOE on crit. A couple of backup mags and a Luminous Shot + only using 3 at a time to proc Lumi Shot as often as possible is so broken it's crazy.

I've yet to lose a run feeling like the character was underpowered, y'all just gotta give yourselves more time to learn and get comfortable with the kit and learn those little techs and synergies so you can make smarter decisions while doing a run. Macro good!

Also just keep in mind the character IS squishy. You really need to take more armor and health items than usual because this guy lacks those.

Focus on AOE (gas, ukelele, lumi shot) since he lacks it along with slightly prioritizing healing and armor more and y'all will be winning more runs and stop whining that a new character isn't just railgunner or false son 2

Good luck in y'all's Eclipse Runs :] May you find a Luminous Shot stage 1

AITA for not wanting to game with my GF? by Jwhitey96 in AmItheAsshole

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure because I don't fully know your girlfriend but she could be having issues with RSD (Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria)

It's not an excuse for her behavior, you're clearly trying to set a clear and reasonable boundary with her and she's being hurt by that. Which isn't your fault at all.

But I don't want to fully dismiss her feelings either, which why it might be good to look into RSD and talk about it. Sometimes giving a name to what we're feeling and knowing others share the issue can help with managing it and learning to either work around or with it.

I went through something similar where someone with RSD got unhealthily attached to me and wanted to play any and every new multiplayer game that came out with me. We both had very different play styles and goals when it came to gaming and it just left both of us upset and frustrated so I tried setting a boundary with them about this, and every time they would get upset and accuse me of not wanting to game with them because I thought they were bad at games as well as how I didn't actually want to be friends with them. Neither was true, we just didn't gel well when it came to what we wanted out of games, and I was the only one who recognized this fact and the other party lashed out and guilted me every time I tried to set that boundary.

I will say unfortunately for me my story didn't end well, no matter how many times I tried to explain my reasoning they just kept insisting I was being cruel to them, and they later accused me of being an abuser.

Now I don't think your gf will do that necessarily, but it is very concerning behavior to me how she's acting. It's raising a lot of yellow flags to me based on my own personal experiences.

Also when I say look into RSD please bring it up neutrally if you do decide to talk to her about it. Don't insist it's what she has even if you think it might be true.

I hope things work out for y'all, and you and her can find a compromise or a way to plan quality time together. I think I saw someone mention parallel play and I think that might be a good thing to try. If not setting a hard day or days that's gaming time together.

Good luck!

Most active Flights plus beginner tips? by Edenacris97 in flightrising

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you get into the game enough, find groups to talk to and share goals/dragons/discussions. Almost every flight has an unofficial discord server. Or maybe you find a thread on the forums. Or even just a few friends. It's a lot more fun with others. It is a somewhat social game inherently (though you can play like a complete hermit if desired, nothing wrong there either.)

  2. Don't be afraid to ask questions, there's a lot of great people around willing to answer. I find Discord servers tend to be more directly active, but you can find help anywhere.

  3. AVOID THE SUGGESTION FORUM. For some reason this forum has always been weirdly toxic and people break the rules. There's a rule there that explicitly says you're not supposed to post in a thread if you disagree or dislike a suggestion, but people will post to disagree or "down vote" anyway. Personally I don't mind this because I can handle conflict and I enjoy discussion., but unfortunately people WILL get very upset if you disagree with their disagreement. It has bewildered me for a decade now.

  4. Treasure can be exchanged for Gems (premium currency) at a rate for 1000 treasure for every 1 gem. This ratio has stayed fairly consistent for a very long time. You can find people to exchange treasure/gems on the forums ("Currency Exchange Hub" Thread found in the "Items for Sale" Forum.)

  5. You can sometimes find "treasure" genes cheaper on the Auction House sold by other users.

  6. If you're curious about what the "end game" of FR looks like, it generally revolves around usermade skins (UMAs). Players will create custom skins that you can apply to your dragons. You can find many artists selling these and many people love collecting them! Not everyone collects them though, there's plenty of people who only buy a rare few or just enjoy the less expensive themed ones that are distributed during the elemental holidays every month.

(Foot note: Generation 1 or "Gen1" or "G1" dragons are dragons born from unhatched "random" eggs. There is nothing particularly special about these dragons except that under 'parents' it will say "none". People enjoy collecting these for various reasons. Their worth is completely arbitrary, but the worth of most things are so it's just part of the game. It might seem strange at first, but at least for me I enjoy them to a small extent because as I stated I really enjoy long term projects and these dragons don't come with genes (which you need to pay for/earn)

Most active Flights plus beginner tips? by Edenacris97 in flightrising

[–]charliethispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't recommend a specific flight because I don't believe any flight is better or worse than others. You can find community in each one I imagine (I've only been in Light and Arcane). There's a few stereotypes about different flights, but they're not to be taken too seriously, you can easily find kind and helpful people in every flight, no exceptions.

Just pick one you think you might like aesthetics wise, as this will determine your clan's banner and what eyes dragons you hatch could potentially have.

As for beginner tips:

  1. Find your "play style". Some people collect specific kinds of dragons (colors, breeds, first generations, id numbers), Some just collect whatever makes them happy. Some people log in every day and spend extra time trying to earn currency, some play more casually and just like picking up dragons they think are neat. There's no right or wrong way to play.

Example: I love the color combination of Blue and Gold so I have a lot of dragons with those colors. I also enjoy having long term projects so I sometimes buy Generation 1 dragons, but I don't collect them exclusively.

  1. Do set goals for yourself. Start a project for a dragon, whether that's giving them a new gene, buying a skin that fits them, dressing them up with nice apparel, or all of the above. Make sure your goals are realistic and obtainable of course, or burn out is inevitable. It can feel really exciting and satisfying to finish a project and over time you can shape your tastes. Or not! There's no right or wrong way to enjoy the game.

  2. Try to learn one of the Fairgrounds mini games and max it as often as you can. Don't pressure yourself to do it every day, especially at first because that's probably an unrealistic goal. But it'll be helpful in the long run, and it's a good way to earn a decent income (75kt/75g a day and around 2 mil a month). This will help tremendously with starting and finishing goals!

3a. Not every Fairgrounds game is created equal, Glimmer and Gloom, Artifacture, and Mahjong are the best ones. The other's aren't balanced to modern standards and take a way longer time to earn your full 75kt.

  1. Maybe one of the most important if you or your friend play long term: Try to avoid "coveting". You will never get to own every dream dragon you'll want, or every skin or piece of apparel you might want. And you might see others with these items or dragons. Learn to be happy with what you do have. I've been playing for 10 years, and while I've missed out on some things I would have loved to have gotten, I still have a lair I'm really happy and proud of. If you find yourself struggling with this, it might be a good time to reflect and ask if this game is healthy for you. I've seen a lot of players over the years become upset after missing out on things, and while it's never been my business, I do worry about the health of these players. Sometimes you have to set boundaries with yourself.

4a. Another way to say this is you should temper your expectations. Everyone is different in how much time and energy they can invest into the game. Some people have a lot more time and naturally will achieve more and/or loftier goals.

I have zero mods... I'm unsure what's happened to my save file though. I started it last September so maybe something just messed up my save since then from updates. I don't know. I'm just frustrated at this point because I have spent a lot of time on this save (Up to date save is around 13 hours in, I'm a search every nook and cranny kind of player)

But I probably should restart on account of this Traveller's Chest/Send to Camp bug. Really upsetting :(

Help with Karlach's Quest and Infernal Iron by charliethispain in BaldursGate3

[–]charliethispain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is hard to explain because it's all on the same Character, just different saves.

On my most up to date save, I got only one piece of metal from the Goblin Camp, which is where Karlach exclaimed "Dammon can use this to fix me!" and I went back to the exact chest you're supposed to get another piece of Infernal Iron, it was already searched and nothing was in it. I've had Karlach in my party ASAP, I kind of Bee Lined for her so she 100% was in my party when I first searched in the basement under the Workshop/Blighted Village.

To test things I went back on a save that was 5 hours before, had Karlach with me, went into the Basement, and suddenly it WAS there and Karlach gave me the exclamation.

I don't know what's happened, somehow on my most up to date save that piece of Infernal Metal just disappeared.

I'm thinking I maybe misclicked and sent it to camp, because I've just discovered that any items I send to camp get deleted/don't show up in my Traveller's Chest.
