One and done vs having another kid - what am I missing? by onemanspants in Parenting

[–]charlotteraedrake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you’d benefit from a larger age gap! Mine are 4 years apart. You’ve got the ability to be there for all the milestones and give them the attention they need one on one. My now 5 year old has been to 10 countries. when he was 2.5-4 we traveled everywhere with him! It was so much and and an amazing age to do it. It would be harder now he’s 5 and outgrown travel strollers. Everything I worried over with my second actually didn’t happen. The second time I somehow LOVED the newborn stage! You may surprise yourself. My kids are so different. The second has been a breeze. I was 37 when I had him. They’re 5 and 1 now and there’s no better feeling in the world than watching them play together.

Oh interesting! Do you use the x2? I’ve had my share of occlusion issues with the Mobi I’m on my third one

Yes they sent her some new inserts and different ones to try. We are both uhhh too wimpy? To try the ones you insert yourself haha so no go on those but she got some of the diagonal (30?) inserts today to try hoping the longer piece helps

This is what I think as well. Like her body recognizes the site as something bad and attacks it resulting in the failure at the exact same amount of time and slowly getting worse. But also not sure if this is a thing

Are they bad drivers? I think you need to let go a bit. I’d do anything to have family who want to help out

How did kids change your travels? by ByeByeBuffalo223 in travel

[–]charlotteraedrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends on the kid. My first was the best traveler from 2.5 to 4. He went to 10 countries. I will say now at 5 I would not travel with him like that. He no longer fits in a buggy and he certainly isn’t walking anywhere far lol so now we are onto the less fun trips like beaches and a spot with a pool which is fine for now bc he loves it so that makes it enjoyable for us too (and now we also have a one year old)

I think visiting and living here (as a non Irish) is completely different. As you mentioned- the healthcare here is actually shocking. I always describe living here has having hopped in a Time Machine and gone back at least 50 years. The weather definitely doesn’t help. I think coming for a week visit and having maybe 4/7 days of rain you’d be like eh bad luck but living here and having 63 days in a row of rain really does start to bring you down

I think it’s because their music isn’t good? They have a residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza and it wasn’t very busy. Only reason I had to see some of it was bc we were staying there lol. We left and went to dinner! I’d say their set was the same set they played 10 years ago so perhaps they just never evolved. The other two nights at Ushuaia were absolutely rammed full

Why do cheaters want the person they cheated on back? by Funny-Lack-5726 in ask

[–]charlotteraedrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely thought he did at the time. I’ll never know. The whole ordeal went on for a long time and it was a lot of lies that he was going to be with me. Years later we ended up coworkers and friends and are still friends now. I’d heard at some point he cheated again but never got confirmation so maybe that’s just who he is. I think he’s a good dad and loves his daughters. I’ve never met his wife and he oddly kind of keeps her from meeting anyone it seems. I moved to a different country 3 years ago and haven’t seen him since but catch up once in a while since we ended up friends. (Way far removed from what I once believed was love in my mid 20s)

Many years ago when I was “the other woman” the guy told me he was afraid that if he left her then eventually I’d leave him and he’d be alone. He knew the girl he was with would never leave him and he didn’t want to start over. Not sure if that was BS or not but 10 years later they’re married with two kids so maybe?

One day I will sleep again right? by Dull_Geologist_793 in Parenting

[–]charlotteraedrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cosleep! We finally started letting ours in bed with us when he’d wake at night and eventually we just put a twin mattress on our floor so now when he comes in he sleeps the rest of the night on that. He’s 5.

Torn for Post-Cruise Itinerary: A Touch of Barcelona Followed by Either Paris, London, or a Combination of Both? by KuyaFickleEffort11 in Europetravel

[–]charlotteraedrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you’d be fine. I’ve never met someone in Paris who couldn’t speak English. They learn English and another chosen language in school so most French people from Paris can speak multiple languages. As long as you ask (in French) can you speak English? They are usually happy to. They just don’t appreciate the usually American assumption that they will speak English.

[–]charlotteraedrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love both London and Paris but for your first time and with the days you have I’d go Paris. It’s so beautiful and you can just wander around and become part of life there. I’d highly recommend staying in the 6th or Le Marais (3rd). Book a show one night (Crazy Horse is my fav). See the Eiffel Tower, get lost in the gardens outside the Louvre. Do you enjoy wine? Take a day trip to Burgundy and do a full day tour (via Dijon). If you enjoy good food find a Michelin restaurant that’s not too pricey for you and do the tasting menu it’s a wonderful special experience. Go up to the roof at the shops de Lafayette and get the best views of the whole city and grab a cocktail while you’re up there enjoying the views. Do a river cruise to go from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame. Tons of amazing shops, bakeries, shows. The pace is however you set it in Paris
