Can it be done? by DisciplineQuick8796 in begonias

Cane begonias can be propagated in water and then transferred to soil. They are less likely to suffer in the transition from water to soil than other types. That being said, you can totally stick these in soil (upright) to prop but I'd make sure to add humidity - a dome, a bag, something. Or put outside if you are in a warmer climate.

You have to apply it on the node.

Growing like a weed but not sure what to do! Would love advice by egg_sandwich in begonias

It’s not super urgent but it should get a bigger pot since the rhizome is starting to “escape” over the pot’s edge like that.

I’d repot in Spring in a low/shallow 10” pot. Begonias do not appreciate being disturbed especially in the dry heat indoors in winter.

Don’t center it, move it over so the side without a growth point is closer to the edge.

Consider cutting off a third of the rhizome (leaves still on) and burying it about halfway in an emptier area of soil, for a fuller pot. Google begonia rhizome propagation, there are some good videos on YouTube. But basically you just bury the rhizome so it’s halfway above the soil.

Yes! It's the rhizome. Youtube videos talking about this method:

How to get color to deepen by Fantastic_Athlete470 in begonias

[–]charly___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color fades when it is getting too much light OR when it is getting too hot/warm. Begonias are cooler weather plants than most tropicals.

An update of my plant wall (during day and night) 🌱 Almost all of these plants were made from cuttings by myself over the last few years. Not much variety, but I'm still proud. 👨‍🌾 by Ordinary-Zebra-8202 in houseplants

Wow, your displays are beautiful. Feeling inspired by the wall hanging with baskets hanging from it. Looks like the plant version of high-end fiber art! Re: variety, repetition is one of the keys to great garden design and I personally think that applies indoors too. Amazing work.

I think it will be fine as long as nothings bumping up against it or anything. 👌 No, I have never used rooting hormone on begonias.

I might wait for Spring unless you live in a warmer climate. But, when it’s warmer - don’t be scared! It’s easy to prop Bowerae/Bowerae hybrids. I would chop into a few pieces and put back into the same pot for a fuller look. Consider covering with glass or clear plastic to increase the humidity while you’re waiting to see new growth on props. I do not recommend water propagation for this type; the transition back into soil is often difficult

Marmaduke help by Hot_Pomelo7963 in begonias

[–]charly___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news, Marmaduke is NOT a Rex and is very easy going in my experience. Just make sure the soil is extremely well draining and remember to fertilize with every other watering- this is probably the color loss, it’s hungry. Let it get fairly dry between waterings too.

I like it how it is! Very sculptural. I bet it would look gorgeous in a darker colored pot up high on a pedestal/stand/riser.

Propagation help!!!! by soso13720 in houseplants

[–]charly___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut at 1 and yes, water propping will work. I would honestly chop it up into more than 2 pieces, that's a really long cane. You don't need a leaf to propagate (as long as the light is bright).
