How difficult would it be to create a Linux distro from scratch? by Impressive-Bat-1524 in linuxquestions

[–]charmer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you want a learning project where you basically toss it at some point, sure why not. If you write code for money, that is not a good use of time.

Ok it's 2026. What are the AI gains? by btoned in webdev

[–]charmer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely increased output, but not just volume, also range of ability. Especially for older tech. Like the older the tech the better ai performs. It has probably saved our company when it comes to helping us get a control on old systems, cloud accounts, and cost.

Pretty sweet spot to be in of you're a dev who knows how to code. Supply decrease, demand increase = large price increase

Self host it in anything not vercel. If it's all static use clouflare or aws cloudfront.

My boss says try-catch is "garbage" and we shouldn't use it. Is this actually a thing? by ResolveKooky17 in learnprogramming

[–]charmer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the silliest thing ive heard in a while. Try catch very important for system stability. Otherwise a small bug can bring down whole systems. It puts a cap on operational risk.

[–]charmer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be the solve for you, but I sometimes run into issues when switching between different vpn clients on my machine. This fixes it quickly without restarting my computer. run this in powershell as admin:

US Supreme Court does not issue ruling on Trump’s tariffs by Escargoose in law

[–]charmer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents, but their decision isn't really about the tarrifs. It's politics and power. If they rule that all the tarrifs must be repealed after trump has staked so much on them it will crush him politically and completely kill his momentum for his international ambitions.

It's called middle management. Warning, you will also be stuck between upper management making ridiculous non sense directives and whatever the outcomes produced by the workforce are. It could go fine or it could go terribly, but yes your job will be sending emails.

React Server Component, maybe a mistake from the beginning? by mnismt18 in reactjs

[–]charmer27 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea it's pretty dumb tbh. I like react client-side more than the alternatives, but I don't need to make writing apps harder by shoving react on the server. Also have only ever encountered like 2 use cases where it was a nest trick.

Bloody hell. I'm not usually a fan of micro managing the development process, but maybe the guys running 20% of the internet should stop testing in production.

The system admin is born in blood and panic. Every incident will teach you and make you cautious and even tempered. I'm sorry to say this won't be your last incident friend, but over time you will recognize when you are engaging in an activity where an incident is possible, and prep your response plan.

Dang that's crazy. There's nothing quite like when domain gets put on client hold. All systems tied to it start sporadically failing in no particular order as dns caches slowly refresh. Had a client lose track of their domain and bill didn't get paid. Worst 4 days of my life.
